Install geopandas in Pycharm - python-3.x

Sorry if this is a repeat question, But I am new to Python and trying to install Geopandas in Pycharm.
My python version is 3.7.2.
I have tried the conventional way of installing library in pycharm through project interpretor.
I have also tried pip install geopandas
Both show same error.
A GDAL API version must be specified. Provide a path to gdal-config using a GDAL_CONFIG environment variable or use a GDAL_VERSION environment variable.
ERROR: Command errored out with exit status 1: python setup.py egg_info Check the logs for full command output
Please provide steps to follow wrt Pycharm if possible.

According to Geopandas's own install instructions, the recommended way is to install via conda package manager, which you can obtain by using the Anaconda or miniconda Python distributions:
conda install geopandas
If, however, you have a Very Good Reason you can't use conda, and absolutely need to use pip, you should try installing GDAL first (pip install GDAL), and then checking if the gdal-config command is in your path (i.e. that you can access it via the terminal). Then you can try installing again from either PyCharm directly or via the command line.
If you can't get it installed from PyCharm and need to specify GDAL_VERSION (which you can get with gdal-config --version), you'll probably need to install from the command line, where you can set this variable either with an export or directly in the same invocation:
GDAL_VERSION=2.4.2 pip install geopandas

I get "syntax error" while installing numpy [duplicate]

I'm trying to use pip to install a package. I try to run pip install from the Python shell, but I get a SyntaxError. Why do I get this error? How do I use pip to install the package?
>>> pip install selenium
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax
pip is run from the command line, not the Python interpreter. It is a program that installs modules, so you can use them from Python. Once you have installed the module, then you can open the Python shell and do import selenium.
The Python shell is not a command line, it is an interactive interpreter. You type Python code into it, not commands.
Use the command line, not the Python shell (DOS, PowerShell in Windows).
C:\Program Files\Python2.7\Scripts> pip install XYZ
If you installed Python into your PATH using the latest installers, you don't need to be in that folder to run pip
Terminal in Mac or Linux
$ pip install XYZ
As #sinoroc suggested correct way of installing a package via pip is using separate process since pip may cause closing a thread or may require a restart of interpreter to load new installed package so this is the right way of using the API: subprocess.check_call([sys.executable, '-m', 'pip', 'install', 'SomeProject']) but since Python allows to access internal API and you know what you're using the API for you may want to use internal API anyway eg. if you're building own GUI package manager with alternative resourcess like https://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/
Following soulution is OUT OF DATE, instead of downvoting suggest updates. see https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/7498 for reference.
UPDATE: Since pip version 10.x there is no more get_installed_distributions() or main method under import pip instead use import pip._internal as pip.
UPDATE ca. v.18 get_installed_distributions() has been removed. Instead you may use generator freeze like this:
from pip._internal.operations.freeze import freeze
print([package for package in freeze()])
# eg output ['pip==19.0.3']
If you want to use pip inside the Python interpreter, try this:
import pip
package_names=['selenium', 'requests'] #packages to install
pip.main(['install'] + package_names + ['--upgrade'])
# --upgrade to install or update existing packages
If you need to update every installed package, use following:
import pip
for i in pip.get_installed_distributions():
pip.main(['install', i.key, '--upgrade'])
If you want to stop installing other packages if any installation fails, use it in one single pip.main([]) call:
import pip
package_names = [i.key for i in pip.get_installed_distributions()]
pip.main(['install'] + package_names + ['--upgrade'])
Note: When you install from list in file with -r / --requirement parameter you do NOT need open() function.
pip.main(['install', '-r', 'filename'])
Warning: Some parameters as simple --help may cause python interpreter to stop.
Curiosity: By using pip.exe you actually use python interpreter and pip module anyway. If you unpack pip.exe or pip3.exe regardless it's python 2.x or 3.x, inside is the SAME single file __main__.py:
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
import re
import sys
from pip import main
if __name__ == '__main__':
sys.argv[0] = re.sub(r'(-script\.pyw?|\.exe)?$', '', sys.argv[0])
sys.exit(main())
To run pip in Python 3.x, just follow the instructions on Python's page: Installing Python Modules.
python -m pip install SomePackage
Note that this is run from the command line and not the python shell (the reason for syntax error in the original question).
I installed python and when I run pip command it used to throw me an error like shown in pic below.
Make Sure pip path is added in environmental variables. For me, the python and pip installation path is::
Python: C:\Users\fhhz\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38\
pip: C:\Users\fhhz\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python38\Scripts
Both these paths were added to path in environmental variables.
Now Open a new cmd window and type pip, you should be seeing a screen as below.
Now type pip install <<package-name>>. Here I'm installing package spyder so my command line statement will be as pip install spyder and here goes my running screen..
and I hope we are done with this!!
you need to type it in cmd not in the IDLE. becuse IDLE is not an command prompt if you want to install something from IDLE type this
>>>from pip.__main__ import _main as main
>>>main(#args splitted by space in list example:['install', 'requests'])
this is calling pip like pip <commands> in terminal. The commands will be seperated by spaces that you are doing there to.
If you are doing it from command line,
try -
python -m pip install selenium
or (for Python3 and above)
python3 -m pip install selenium

Spyder, clean Win installation, ver. 4.2.3 - pip gives message "No module named pip"

I have Spyder, clean Win10 installation, ver. 4.2.3.
When I run command pip, it gives message:
Note: you may need to restart the kernel to use updated packages.
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Programs\Spyder\Python\python.exe: No module named pip
I restarted Spyder, Win10, nothing helps.
How to fix it?
Thanks.
(Spyder maintainer here) We don't provide pip in our Windows app to prevent people breaking Spyder by installing any kind of packages with it.
The best way to use other packages that don't come with our app is to install Miniconda, create a conda environment after that with the packages you want to use and spyder-kernels, and finally connect Spyder to that env.
If you have python 3.4+ then pip should be installed with python.
To check that, you can run
pip help
in your windows command line.
However, if it isn't the case then download the get-pip.py file and run
python get-pip.py
and the pip installation should start. You can use pip help to verify this.
Another source of the problem might be that pip isn't listed in your PATH variables and thus isn't recognized by your command line.

Problems importing the oct2py python package

I have installed the oct2py package using the pip command pip install oct2py, set the environement path of python, pip and octave as in the following picture:
However, whenever I try to import it in my python script, I get the following error:
I checked whether the package is installed, it says: Requirement satisfied.
Any ideas of what I could possibly be doing wrong?

Trouble installing using PIP

I'm having trouble importing plotly using pip install. The error I get is as follows:
The following command must be run outside of the IPython shell:
$ pip install plotly
The Python package manager (pip) can only be used from outside of IPython.
Please reissue the `pip` command in a separate terminal or command prompt.
I'm very new to programming, so I simply tried this in the windows command prompt and it said "pip is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file". I'm using Spyder if that helps, but I'm not sure what I'm missing here.
Thanks for your help.
I guess you forgot to put ! before pip.
try:
!pip install plotly
in your notebook, should work.
For windows the cleanest way to install a python package is to:
python -m pip install [packagename]
This removes the ambiguity if pip is added to the path variable or not.
If you are getting below error while installing any python packages in window using command "pip install packageName".
The following command must be run outside of the IPython shell:
$ pip install configobj
The Python package manager (pip) can only be used from outside of IPython.
Please reissue the `pip` command in a separate terminal or command prompt.
See the Python documentation for more information on how to install packages:
https://docs.python.org/3/installing/
solution: add "!" at beginning of pip
!pip install configobj(packageName)
It will work. It worked in my case.
What worked for me was going to the directory in which Spyder is located, which you can do by searching Spyder on your computer and then right clicking → directory, and then in the directory opening the Anaconda Prompt. In this Prompt you can type in:
pip install [packagename]
and it will work.

Python 3.5.2 Windows x86-64 web-based, but installer not installing pip

I am trying to install TensorFlow. The installation instruction for Windows (https://www.tensorflow.org/install/install_windows) have as first step to install Python 3.5.2. And I'm doing the 'TensorFlow with CPU support only'.
Python was successfully installed in my computer as I can run it via the Start menu.
However, when I try to do the 2nd step of the installation instructions in order to install TensorFlow, this step says to:
To install TensorFlow, start a terminal. Then issue the appropriate pip3 install command in that terminal. To install the CPU-only version of TensorFlow, enter the following command:
C:\> pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow
But I'm getting an error when I perform the above statement, the error is
'pip' is not recognized as an internal or external command, oprable program or batch file.
I looked at several postings in StackOverflow and tried the commands provided in one of the postings, but I would get the same type of error.
So, how is 'pip3' installed? from what I read, it is supposed to be installed together with the installation, but obviously that did not happen.
How do I install it? I need to install TensorFlow and it seems that it needs to be done via the pip3 installation tool.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Either set the system environment path variable to include the python 3.5.x path in it, or just cd into the correct python folder to run pip3 from there.
The folder in windows 10 should be something like this:
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python35\Scripts
Open the terminal, cd to that path (change YOUR_USERNAME to the correct user) and then just run the following command:
pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow
and if you want the gpu version:
pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow-gpu
Pip3 is already installed when you install Python, so there is no need to do anything else.
