I have a very weird, and extremely annoying, problem.
Each time after reboot (or logout), old uninstalled extensions that I tried out and decided not for me, reinstall themselves. I have to go tho gnome extension in Firefox and uninstall them.
Side Issue: for some reason, I can't remove extensions with pending updates. So I update the extensions I wish to remove, which is completely backwards. This would not be an issue given the main issue wasn't there.
I checked the directory ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions . Only desired extensions appear there in ls -a.

Some extensions are installed in /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions. Try checking in that path. You'll need root privileges

This is probably a pretty simple problem to fix, but I'm quite new to Linux and certainly Debian so I'm quite lost here. Put quite simply I am trying to remove two different versions of sublime text from a machine running Debian, so I can reinstall just the latest version. This is all on a work computer given to me that I just started using so I'm not sure on past details of how things were installed, etc. Entering the command "sublime" opens sublime build 3083. Build 3114 should also be here but I can't open it. I can't figure out how to remove it because it isn't in apt-cache and when I try apt-get remove for "sublime", "sublime-text", "sublime-text-2", and "sublime-text-3" it can't find any packages under that name. How do I get rid of this thing? Thanks.
NOTE: I check usr/bin and sublime is listed there. So it must have not been installed through the package manager?

Everytime I try to run eclipse, my system crashes. That happens when it appears the window that asks me to select the workspace. I've installed JDK and Maven, and downloaded Eclipse from the official website
It's a bug in the SWT porting on GTK3. There is no real solution, but there is a workaround by forcing Eclipse to use GTK2.
I assume your Eclipse folder is /opt/eclipse and that you don't have write permissions in this folder. Please change the commands, if your set-up differs.
There are two ways to apply this workaround, a long and explanatory way, and a short one for the lazy ;)
Modifying eclipse.ini by hand
You need to open eclipse.ini in your Eclipse folder:
sudo -i scratch-text-editor /opt/eclipse/eclipse.ini
and add the following lines:
--launcher.GTK_version
2
It's important to add these lines before --launcher.appendVmargs, otherwise Eclipse will crash.

I was having this problem (Eclipse freeze, crash, with elementary OS Freya).
My Eclipse installation was done using the installer, so my path was different to what Prade jo indicates, but his solution was right on.
sudo scratch-text-editor
Browse to home -> yourUserName -> eclipse -> java-mars (or whichever version you have) -> eclipse -> eclipse.ini
The line before "--launcher.appendVmargs", add:
--launcher.GTK_version
2
Should now be good to go.
I had the same issue with Oxygen and Elementary Loki. Changing to GTK2 worked for me.
Try running eclipse from the terminal to see the problem. Most likely it is an X server problem.
I'm having a problem with Subclipse, when trying to do anything like committing, updating or viewing history the first time nothing happens, and the second time I try this error show up:

I have another Eclipse installation (Java EE) which has the same packages installed and everything is still working fine there.
I've already tried reinstalling all the SVN packages but to no avail. I'm running Eclipse Kepler on Linux Mint 16 Petra, SVN is version 1.7.9.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I figured out that the other Eclipse installation had different (older) versions of the plugins. After updating these, that installation also stopped working. I suspect that my SVN version (1.7.9) is too old. I see 1.8.x has already been released, how can I install that version in my Linux installation? Running apt-get update/upgrade doesn't do it. I've seen some people talking about running dist-upgrade but that has broken things in the past so I'm very reluctant to do so unless absolutely necessary.
EDIT: I managed to install subversion 1.8.10 using these steps, but to no avail.
I managed to solve the issue my removing SVNKit and installing the "Subversion JavaHL Native Library Adapter" instead. I tried that before but it did work after I had also updated subversion to 1.8.
I want to remove firefox completely in my fedora 17 as its having some issues after upgrading from firefox 12 to firefox 22.
I already have tried yum remove firefox and yum install firefox but it is not solving issues.
The issues are right click menu is not working in the browser. "Firebug" is not working.

Removing the package via the software manager as you did is all there is. You can check the files inside the package if you feel like, but there is no additional magic outside that file list. BUT: in addition you must remove your personal settings, otherwise those 'survive' the replacement of the package. Look for a hidden folder in your home directory: .firefox or .mozilla (note the leading dot).
My MonoTouch install is screwed somehow (MonoDevelop won't even open).
So yesterday I deleted /Developer/MonoTouch off my Mac because that was the only directions I could find for uninstalling it. Today I tried reinstalling both it and MonoDevelop. Both installers ran fine, but I still have the same issue so I went to "uninstall" it again...and that directory doesn't exist this time.
Then I went to install an older version (2.6.7) and that installer tells me that I have a newer version already installed.
So....what do I do?
I am in a very, very bad mood because of all this right now. A months worth of work is now pointless unless I can get this running again.

I finally got an older version of MonoTouch to install. Version 2.6.7 that was downloaded off of their site. Now when I run MonoDevelop I get an error that says "MonoDevelop requires the Mono Framework version 2.6.7 or later" and gives me the option to "Cancel" or "Download".
This is the error that I got that started this whole thing. I installed 2.6.7 but it doesn't recognize, and if I install 2.8 it just won't launch (icon bounces 3 times then does nothing, no error, no app).

The other thing of note is that no matter how many times I install/uninstall/reinstall any version of the Mono Framework, nothing at all shows up in /Developer/MonoTouch.
I don't know how important that is, but considering something used to be there until this problem started I thought it worth mentioning.
Also since this problem started, I can no longer open any .xib files inside of Interface Builder. Whether that means one created in XCode or opening Interface Builder then creating a new View. Interface Builder runs fine, but as soon as I try to open any .xib it crashes with this error report.
I notice it says something about libxml2 in there which WAS installed yesterday and is probably the root cause of this...but I have uninstalled and reinstalled that as well with no luck.
