(Spyder maintainer here) This is only possible in Spyder 4. To do it you need to go to the menu
Tools > Preferences > Completion and linting > Code style
then activate the option called Enable code style linting and finally add your exclusion list in the field called Ignore the following errors or warnings.

In PyCharm, I've added the Python environment /usr/bin/python. However,
from gnuradio import gr
fails as an undefined reference. However, it works fine in the Python interpreter from the command line.
GNURadio works fine with python outside of Pycharm. Everything is installed and configured how I want it.
Gnuradio is located at /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gnuradio
Also:
PYTHONPATH=/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages:/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/gnuradio
Adding a Path
Go into File → Settings → Project Settings → Project Interpreter.
Then press configure interpreter, and navigate to the "Paths" tab.
Press the + button in the Paths area. You can put the path to the module you'd like it to recognize.
But I don't know the path..
Open the python interpreter where you can import the module.

Most commonly you'll have a folder structure like this:
foobarbaz/
gnuradio/
__init__.py
other_file.py
You want to add foobarbaz to the path here.
You should never need to modify the path directly, either through environment variables or sys.path. Whether you use the os (ex. apt-get), or pip in a virtualenv, packages will be installed to a location already on the path.
In your example, GNU Radio is installed to the system Python 2's standard site-packages location, which is already in the path. Pointing PyCharm at the correct interpreter is enough; if it isn't there is something else wrong that isn't apparent. It may be that /usr/bin/python does not point to the same interpreter that GNU Radio was installed in; try pointing specifically at the python2.7 binary. Or, PyCharm used to be somewhat bad at detecting packages; File > Invalidate Caches > Invalidate and Restart would tell it to rescan.
This answer will cover how you should set up a project environment, install packages in different scenarios, and configure PyCharm. I refer multiple times to the Python Packaging User Guide, written by the same group that maintains the official Python packaging tools.
The correct way to develop a Python application is with a virtualenv. Packages and version are installed without affecting the system or other projects. PyCharm has a built-in interface to create a virtualenv and install packages. Or you can create it from the command line and then point PyCharm at it.
$ cd MyProject
$ python2 -m virtualenv env
$ . env/bin/activate
$ pip install -U pip setuptools # get the latest versions
$ pip install flask # install other packages
In your PyCharm project, go to File > Settings > Project > Project Interpreter. If you used virtualenvwrapper or PyCharm to create the env, then it should show up in the menu. If not, click the gear, choose Add Local, and locate the Python binary in the env. PyCharm will display all the packages in the selected env.
In some cases, such as with GNU Radio, there is no package to install with pip, the package was installed system-wide when you install the rest of GNU Radio (ex. apt-get install gnuradio). In this case, you should still use a virtualenv, but you'll need to make it aware of this system package.
$ python2 -m virtualenv --system-site-packages env
Unfortunately it looks a little messy, because all system packages will now appear in your env, but they are just links, you can still safely install or upgrade packages without affecting the system.
In some cases, you will have multiple local packages you're developing, and will want one project to use the other package. In this case you might think you have to add the local package to the other project's path, but this is not the case. You should install your package in development mode. All this requires is adding a setup.py file to your package, which will be required anyway to properly distribute and deploy the package later.
Minimal setup.py for your first project:

Then install it in your second project's env:

For me, it was just a matter of marking the directory as a source root.
Add path in PyCharm 2017
File -> Settings (or Ctrl+Alt+S) -> Project -> Project Interpreter
Show all
Select bottom icon on the right side
Click on the plus button to add new path to your module
My version is PyCharm Professional edition 3.4, and the Adding a Path part is different.
You can go to "Preferences" --> "Project Interpreter". Choose the tool button at the right top corner.
Then choose "More..." --> "Show path for the selected interpreter" --> "Add". Then you can add a path.
DON'T change the interpreter path.
Change the project structure instead:
File -> Settings -> Project -> Project structure -> Add content root
In PyCharm 2020.1 CE and Professional, you can add a path to your project's Python interpreter by doing the following:
1) Click the interpreter in the bottom right corner of the project and select 'Interpreter Settings'
2) Click the settings button to the right of the interpreter name and select 'Show All':
3) Make sure your project's interpreter is selected and click the fifth button in the bottom toolbar, 'show paths for the selected interpreter':
4) Click the '+' button in the bottom toolbar and add a path to the folder containing your module:
For PyCharm Community Edition 2016.3.2 it is:
"Project Interpreter" -> Top right settings icon -> "More".
Then on the right side there should be a packages icon. When hovering over it it should say "Show paths for selected interpreter". Click it.
Then click the "Add" button or press "alt+insert" to add a new path.
As quick n dirty fix, this worked for me:
Adding this 2 lines before the problematic import:

sys.path.append('C:\\Python27\\Lib\site-packages')
On Project Explorer, you can right click on the folder where the module is contained and set as 'Source'.
It will be parsed in the Index for code completion as well as other items.
I'm new to PyCharm (using 2018.3.4 CE) and Python so I rotely tried to follow each of the above suggestions to access the PIL (Pillow) package which I knew was in system-site-packages. None worked. I was about to give up for the night when I happened to notice the venv/pyvenv.cfg file under my project in the Project Explorer window. I found the line "include-system-site-packages = false" in that file and so I changed it to "true". Problem solved.
In my PyCharm 2019.3, select the project, then File ---> Settings, then Project: YourProjectName, in 'Project Interpreter', click the interpreter or settings, ---> Show all... ---> Select the current interpreter ---> Show paths for the selected interpreter ---> then click 'Add' to add your library, in my case, it is a wheel package
For me there is also another issue. If you try to add a folder that in the past had a .idea folder, but your current project has it's own .idea folder your pycharm might get confused for some reason -- even if you have the right python/conda env. For me deleting the .idea folder of the other project fixed the confusion that it could find the obviously correctly installed pkgs. Then it was it was able to find them in the pycharm editor GUI snf stopped underlyinging them in red.

Pylint cannot detect the missing space after # sign of comments and missing blank line, Python3

The actual check is done by pycodestyle inside flake8. pylint do not check for this and for formatting in general (as black can format your code automatically, this kind of check are not very useful anymore).
You should use black, flake8 and pylint together, they are not mutually exclusive.
Just a note about comments handling in Pylint: there is a pylint checker that shows messages for empty comments in your code. The message/checker is called empty-comment.

Unresolved import error - Python virtual-environment [duplicate]

I am using the following setup
macOS v10.14 (Mojave)
Python 3.7.1
Visual Studio Code 1.30
Pylint 2.2.2
Django 2.1.4
I want to use linting to make my life a bit easier in Visual Studio Code. However, for every import I have states "unresolved import". Even on default Django imports (i.e. from django.db import models).
I presume it is because it is not seeing the virtual environment Python files.
Everything works just fine, but it's starting to get annoying.
The interpreter choices I have are all system versions of Python. It does not seem to see my virtual environment Python at all (it is not in the same directory as my workspace, so that part makes sense).
If I set up the python.PythonPath in the settings.json file, it just ignores it and does not list my virtual environment path as an option. I also tried setting it up in my global Python settings, but it also does not show up.
Is there a quick fix to get it working?
The accepted answer won't fix the error when importing own modules.
Use the following setting in your workspace settings .vscode/settings.json:

There are two very useful answers, by MagnuesBrzenk and SpenHouet.
The best solution for now is to create a .env file in your project root folder. Then add a PYTHONPATH to it like this:
PYTHONPATH=YOUR/MODULES/PATH
And in your settings.json add:
"python.envFile": ".env"
When I do > reload window that fixes it.

None of the solutions worked except this one. Replacing "Pylance" or "Microsoft" in the settings.json solved mine.

You need to select the interpreter associated with the virtual environment.
Click here (at the bottom status bar):
And just select the virtual environment you are working with. Done.
Sometimes, even with the interpreter selected, it won't work. Just repeat the process again and it should solve it.

If you are more visual like myself, you can use the Visual Studio Code configurations in menu File → Preferences → Settings (Ctrl + ,). Go to Extensions → Python.

I wonder how many solutions this problem have (or have not), I tried most of the above, nothing worked, the only solution that worked is to set the python language server to Jedi, instead of Microsoft in the settings.json file:

The first line really just hides the linting error. Certainly not a permanent solution, but de-clutters the screen.

Maybe someone who understands Python more than me can explain that one more.
Okay, so 2 years down the line, I have ran into this annoying problem. All I can seen here are some really complicated workarounds. Here are easy to follow steps for anyone else who might just run into this later on:
at the bottom of VS Code where you see the Python version listed, just click there
Select Interpreter windows is going to appear
click on the first option that says "Select Interpreter Path" and navigate to the folder path which has your Virtual Environment
That's all you need to do and avoid tampering with those settings in VS Code which might get very complicated if not handled with caution.
My solution
This solution is only for the current project.
In the project root, create folder .vscode
Then create the file .vscode/settings.json
In the file setting.json, add the line (this is for Python 3)

This is the example for Python 2

If you don't know where your Python installation is located, just run the command which python or which python3 on the terminal. It will print the Python location.
This example works for dockerized Python - Django.
I was facing the same problem while importing the project-related(non standard) modules.
Detailed explanation of the problem
Directory structure:
Project_dir:

What we want:

Here "import a" and "import y" fails with following error:
Import "dir_1.a" could not be resolvedPylancereportMissingImports

What worked for me:
Appending the top directory which contains the modules to be imported.
In above example add the follwoing "Code to append" in ".vscode/settings.json"

Given the following example project structure:

What I did to resolve this issue:
Go into the workspace folder (here workspaceRootFolder) and create a .env file
In this empty .env file, add the line PYTHONPATH=codeFolder (replace codeFolder with your folder name)
Add "python.envFile": "${workspaceFolder}/.env" to the settings.json
Restart Visual Studio Code
To me the problem was related with the project that I was working on. It took me a while to figure it out, so I hope this helps:
Original folder structure:
root/
__init__.py # Empty
folder/
__init__.py # Empty
sub_folder_b/
my_code.py
sub_folder_c/
another_code.py
In another_code.py:
from folder.sub_folder_b import my_code.py
This didn't trigger the intellisense in Visual Studio Code, but it did execute OK.
On the other hand, adding "root" on the import path, did make the intellisense work, but raised ModuleNotFoundError when executing:
from root.folder.sub_folder_b import my_code.py
The solution was to remove the _init_.py file inside the "folder" directory, leaving only the _init_.py located at /root.
This works for me:
Open the command palette (Ctrl + Shift + P) and choose "Python: Select Interpreter".
Doing this, you set the Python interpreter in Visual Studio Code.
None of the answers here solved this error for me. Code would run, but I could not jump directly to function definitions. It was only for certain local packages. For one thing, python.jediEnabled is no longer a valid option. I did two things, but I am not sure the first was necessary:
Download Pylance extension, change python.languageServer to "Pylance"
Add "python.analysis.extraPaths": [ "path_to/src_file" ]
Apparently the root and src will be checked for local packages, but others must be added here.
I am using the following setup: (in Apr 2021)

And I faced this error during starting of the Django.
So, I follow these steps and this error is resolved.
Steps are given in these screenshots:
Open settings (workspace)
Follow this screenshot to open Python Path
Now, click Edit in settings.json
Make path like given in this screenshot /opt/anaconda3/bin/python
5. Now, save this settings.json file.
6. Restart the vscode
Also, intellisense might not work for some time hold on wait for some time and then restart again then vscode reads file for new path.
That happens because Visual Studio Code considers your current folder as the main folder, instead of considering the actual main folder.
The quick way to fix is it provide the interpreter path to the main folder.
Press Command + Shift + P (or Ctrl + Shift + P on most other systems).
Type Python interpreter
Select the path where you installed Python in from the options available.
Changing
Python:Language Server
to 'Jedi' worked for me.
It was 'Windows' initially.
For me, it worked, if I setup the paths for python, pylint and autopep8 to the local environment paths.
For your workspace add/change this:

I have a different solution: my Visual Studio Code instance had picked up the virtualenv stored in .venv, but it was using the wrong Python binary. It was using .venv/bin/python3.7; using the switcher in the blue status bar.
I changed it to use .venv/bin/python and all of my imports were resolved correctly.
I don't know what Visual Studio Code is doing behind the scenes when I do this, nor do I understand why this was causing my problem, but for me this was a slightly simpler solution than editing my workspace settings.
In case of a Pylint error, install the following
pipenv install pylint-django
Then create a file, .pylintrc, in the root folder and write the following
load-plugins=pylint-django
I have faced this problem in three ways. Although for each of them a solution is available in the answers to this question, I just thought to put it all together.
First I got an "Unresolved Import" while importing some modules and I noticed that my installations were happening in global pip instead of the virtual environment.
This issue was because of the Python interpreter. You need to select the interpreter in Visual Studio Code using Shift + Ctrl + P and then type Select Python Interpreter. Select your venv interpreter here.
The second issue was: The above change did not resolve my issue completely. This time it was because of file settings.json. If you don't have the settings.json file in your project directory, create one and add the following line in that:

"python.pythonPath": "apis/bin/python"
}
This will basically tell Visual Studio Code to use the Python interpreter that is in your venv.
The third issue was while importing a custom Python module or file in another program. For this you need to understand the folder structure. As Python in venv is inside bin, you'll need to specify the folder of your module (most of the time the application folder). In my case it was app,
from app.models import setup_db
Verbally, import setup_db from models.py resides in the app folder.
If you are using pipenv then you need to specify the path to your virtual environment.in settings.json file.
For example :

Please note that this is just skipping the warning not resolving it.
First of all open visual studio code settings in json and add following arguments after "[python]":{}
"python.linting.pylintArgs": ["--rep[![enter image description here][1]][1]orts", "12", "--disable", "I0011"],
"python.linting.flake8Args": ["--ignore=E24,W504", "--verbose"]
"python.linting.pydocstyleArgs": ["--ignore=D400", "--ignore=D4"]
This has helped me to avoid pylint warnings in VSCode.
I have resolved import error by Ctrl + Shift + P.
Type "Preferences settings" and select the option Preferences Open Settings (JSON)
And add the line "python.pythonPath": "/usr/bin/"
So the JSON content should look like:
{
"python.pythonPath": "/usr/bin/"
}
Keep other configuration lines if they are present.
This should import all modules that you have installed using PIP for autocomplete.

Smalltalk syntax highlighting in Sublime?

I'm trying to get sublime to highlight smalltalk .st files but am running into some trouble.
A quick search found this package, but after adding the repository like it says in the README, I don't see the package that its supposed to add when doing Package Control: install package.
I also tried looking into this one but am completely lost when it says This syntax file can be converted to .tmLanguage using PackageDev 'Convert to PList'. Place the converted file in Packages/Smalltalk/Smalltalk.tmLanguage and reopen any .st file.
Can anybody help me out please? I'm running ST3 on MacOSX.
The installtion instructions using Package Control did not work for me either, but you can take the language file, Smalltalk.tmLanguage, from Smalltalk syntax for Sublime Text 3 and use the manual installation instructions you cited:
Place the file in Packages/Smalltalk/Smalltalk.tmLanguage
As you asked about macOS, on macOS this means:
/Users/<your user name>/Library/Application Support/Sublime Text 3/Packages/Smalltalk/Smalltalk.tmLanguage
The Library folder might be hidden by default. Use the Terminal or Finder's Go ▶︎ Go To Folder… to access it.
For Smalltalk/X you can download a highlighting package at - sublime highlighting for smalltalk/X called Smalltalk.sublime-package.
You can copy it to the path provided by #MartinW above.

PyCharm: IDE does not seem to recognise Python 3 even with 3.x interpreter set

I am using the latest version of Pycharm(pycharm-2017.1) and have used Pycharm for a couple of years without issue. However, I have never written Python 3 scripts with it before, and have issues now. I am getting red underlined syntax errors which appear to clearly indicate that Pycharm doesn't understand that I'm using Python 3.
In 'Edit configurations', I have set Python 3.x to be the default interpreter... I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Note: I have the correct python3 shebang lines in my scripts, and running them both straight from a terminal, or even by pressing 'run' in Pycharm works no problem.. this latter fact just adds to the mystery.
I also tried adding (with the '+' in 'Edit configurations', specific profiles for each of the scripts concerned, with Python3.x as the interpreters, to no avail)

The Edit configurations settings refers to the running options only.
To use python3 at project level you need to change the interpreter in File > Settings > Project: project-name > Project Interpreter
This allow to have correct syntax-checking, import-checking and others
