I am trying to install pumba from the OS release page. Once it is downloaded, I try running
pumba --help
It gives a command not found error.
Can anyone suggest what am I missing? The amd_64 file has all read, write and execute permissions.
If the name of the file is pumba_linux_amd64, you have to use that. Additionally, since the file is (assuming) not in your $PATH, you can't launch it directly.
If your file is in your current directory, run
./pumba_linux_amd64

I got a problem when I input any npm cmd, it says
internal/modules/cjs/loader.js:584
Operating System: Windows 8 pro 64bit
What shall I do to solve this issue?
Your error message of:
Error: Cannot find module 'C:\Users\NUMAN ALI\myfirst.js'
indicates that Node can't find your myfirst.js file to run within your current directory of: C:\Users\NUMAN ALI. Your myfirst.js file isn't located within this directory so you need to move into the correct directory containing this file, or alternatively create this file in the current directory. Then you need to add your desired JavaScript within this file to run it.
With your comment of: "The file you have just created must be initiated by Node.js before any action can take place" I am going to assume you don't have this file in your current directory. Maybe you could try creating the file in a text editor, such as notepad at the very least on a Windows machine, and adding the JavaScript contents into this file. Then try re-running the file with a node myfirst.js. Check out this accepted answer here as I think this will help you out a lot. Also, for command line help for creating files, check out this link.
Hopefully that helps!
I'm an owner of synology's diskstation NAS server running on special OS (mainly linux)
It has only access from internet. I established command line interface to access it using synology wiki. Now I try to install Counter-Strike server on it using SteamCMD. I just look in Valve Developer Community for it.
I'm writing the next:
mkdir csServer
cd csServer
wget http://media.steampowered.com/client/steamcmd_linux.tar.gz
tar xvfz steamcmd_linux.tar.gz
./steamcmd.sh
But the last line causes -sh: ./steamcmd.sh not found. However, I can see this file in the directory.
What actually can cause it?
//ADDED
The file is executable!
Your script contains a header which says #!/bin/bash, that is use /bin/bash to execute this script. Apparently, on your system /bin/bash is not present. I am not familiar with Synology environment, but you should be able to fix this problem by installing bash and then pointing your script to the right path, which should be /opt/bin/bash. The first line of your script should therefore look like the following
#!/opt/bin/bash
You could also use Synology default ash, but beware that you script might not work as it was written for bash.
Windows style end-of-lines (CRLF) can cause this issue. If your sh file contains Windows style end-of-lines, convert it to Linux style.
I've downloaded and unzipped ffmpeg at custom directory in my Ubuntu linux. Now I want to run this ffmpeg using terminal like I run on windows using command prompt. But everytime it says "ffmpeg: command not found". My question is how can I run ffmpeg using terminal through extracted libraries
thanks
First you need to make sure the file has execute permissions... or just add it with chmod +x filename
Secondly either the executables must be on the path or you need to specify the path to the executable. What I mean by this is, under Windows if you are in a directory with an executable you can type in the executable name and it will work... this is not the case for Linux. If you are in the executable's directory you execute the command like this ./command. The dot means you are executing a file in the current directory
I am trying to run a .run file in cygwin, but I always seem to get this error:
Unable to start '~.run': There is no application associated with the given file name extension.
I needed to be a superuser, so I tried using the command: cygstart --action=runas "$#"
I read somewhere that cygstart is for invoking registered Windows handler, so this may be the problem, but I am unsure. Is there any way that I can run my .run file as a superuser using cygwin?
Well, as has been said, no application is associated with .run files on your
system. So you can do that one of two ways
Call the file with the program, example
cygstart notepad.exe ~.run
Tell the registry what to do with unknown extensions
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown]
#=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\Open\command]
#="notepad.exe \"%1\""
This question is not related to Cygwin but rather to Windows. cygstart works the same as Windows' start. That means, if you use [cyg]start file.extension it works very similarly as if you double-click on that file in Windows Explorer.
Therefore if you configure Windows to do what you need when you double-click on your *.run file, cygstart will work fine too.
I think that easier is to use appropriate extension which Windows already knows. It depends on what you have inside your *.run file. If it's executable, use exe extension, if it's batch script, use cmd or bat, if it's JavaScript, use js etc.
If you use Linux or some derivation, you need to execute the .run file with an absolute path, even if you have already navigated to the appropriate directory containing the file. See here:

im trying to install xampp on "new" linux mint machine.
However im quite a noob to linux since i havnt used it for that long.
When i try to run the file that ive download from the following page:
Xampp download
i get the following error two errors:
Could not display "/home/marc/Downloads/xampp-linux-x64-1.8.3-0-installer.run".
and if i click yes
Installing mime type handlers isn't supported
To search and install software which can open certain file types you have to install app-install-data.
can anyone tell me what the problem is and how i might fix it?
you need to execute the file (e.g. open a terminal, navigate to your Downloads folder and run bash xampp-linux-x64-1.8.3-0-installer.run (possibly it might need to be run otherwise, but thats my best guess)).
alternatively you might be presented to run/execute the file (instead of displaying it). if so, choose this option.
on the other hand, you might consider installing apache/php/mysql via your package manager.
what you can do is that you can use the chmod +x /your folder location/.run file that you want to install
after that you can run following command
./and your .run file name
example:-
in my case :- User#user~$su root
it will ask for password so give it
User#user~chmod +x /Downloads/xampp-linux-x64-1.8.3-0-installer.run
User#user~./xampp-linux-x64-1.8.3-0-installer.run
