Is there any way to install latest Maven specific version without using wget command in ubuntu 16.
You could try doing what my link below recommends, but add references to Bionic instead of Xenial. Then all you need to do is sudo apt install maven.
Note the current version of support Maven for Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) is 3.6.0-1, so if that isn't new enough for you (the latest Maven release is 3.6.2), you'll have to find another way.

you could install sdkman on the machine 1st and then use it to install and manage various java-related tools (maven among them), but installing sdkman itself likely involves a wget

I am trying to work with the Hugo static site generator.
Problem: Hugo is saying it is updated to the latest version but it is not.
$ hugo version
Hugo Static Site Generator v0.40.1 linux/amd64 BuildDate: 2018-04-25T17:16:11Z
But the latest version is now v0.70.0
System:
Windows Subsystem for Linux via the terminal in Visual Studio Code v1.45.0
Any help would be much appreciated thank you all.
If you're using a Debian-based system, e.g. Ubuntu, you can download the appropriate .deb from https://github.com/gohugoio/hugo/releases and install it with, for example:
sudo dpkg --install ./hugo_extended_0.70.0_Linux-64bit.deb
I wrote about this in footnote 10 in my Hugo Tutorial.
If you've installed it via the apt package manager, you might be out of luck there, because the official repositories might not be up to date with the latest version of Hugo.
To update the repositories and install the latest available version of hugo, try doing
sudo apt update
sudo apt install hugo
However, I see it's only getting version 0.6x.
If you want to use it on Windows, you could try installing it via Chocolatey or Scoop. Both seem to have version 0.70.x in their repositories, but you'd need to install them first, because they're not Windows out-of-the-box software. Not sure if and how it would work if you use it in the WSL, though.
Otherwise, there's always the good'ol download the binary and save it.
The Ubuntu package manager "apt" does not contain the latest version of Hugo right now. It needs to be updated by the repo owner or similar.
I solved my problem by following a binary install guide here
I'm working with Ubuntu 14.04 and I need to use stress-ng.
If I type: apt-cache policy stress-ng
I obtain:
stress-ng:
Installed: 0.03.15-1~ubuntu14.04.1
Candidate: 0.03.15-1~ubuntu14.04.1
Version table:
*** 0.03.15-1~ubuntu14.04.1 0
100 http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/ubuntu/ trusty-backports/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
So if I run apt-get install stress-ng, it downloads version 0.03.15.
Unfortunately, this version does not allow me to do some things which are present in the last one, 0.07.16, supported by Ubuntu 17.04.
How can I do to use this latest version on 14.04?
You can add the repositories of the newer release to sources.list, and use apt-pinning,this is an advanced feature to install packages from a newer version of Ubuntu.
Check out Pinning.
Pinning is a process that allows you to remain on a stable release of
Ubuntu (or any other debian system) while grabbing packages from a
more recent version.
Note however that the processes described below will only work if
things like libc6 versions match, so you should probably not do this
on an Ubuntu system. I strongly recommend you look at UbuntuBackports
before doing this.
Also you can just download the package and make install.
Hope this helps.
I need to get Maven 3.25 or later in my Linux Ubuntu VM. After running the command sudo apt-get install maven, the system downloaded Maven 3.0.5. Is there a way to get the latest version of Maven (3.3.9) instead using apt-get?
The version of maven in the ubuntu universe repository does not always match the latest available version of software. In addition, Ubuntu does not upgrade packages for new features after shipping a release, only patches and security updates, unless you upgrade the Ubuntu version you are on.
For example, Ubuntu Xenial (16.04) currently ships Maven 3.3.9, but Ubuntu Trusty (14.04) only ships Maven 3.0.5. You have multiple options:
Install maven manually from the maven website.
Upgrade the version of Ubuntu you are using to 16.04, and the package manager will upgrade maven to the 3.3.9 version of maven.
You can run sudo apt-get update to check for package updates. After that potentially sudo apt-get install maven will install more recent version.
If you are using Debian, you can use sudo apt-get install -t jessie-backports maven and it will install the newest version. (Helpful for other users trying to get help.)
So basically I'm trying to install APC, but I can't get pecl to work on Centos 5.8 i686
I have the latest stable releases of php-fpm, mysql, and nginx. Everything is working at 100%, everything is smooth. I'm running a live website with no problems. I just can't pecl to work.
yum install php-pear:
Most of the packages I'm trying to instal have dependency issues with php-common (whatever that is).
php-common = 5.1.6-32.el5 is needed
Much help is appreciated!
/usr/bin/pecl is available from php-pear package.
The dependency failures you got are stange. Probably because you have mixed installation of php-* 5.1 RPMs and php53-* 5.3 RPMs and get conflicts on devel files. You should do some clean up to keep only one set of RPMs for your target version, either 5.1 or 5.3.
You also have to install gcc, httpd-devel, php(53)-devel and finally php-pear to get phpize working.
Then you should be able to run pecl install apc
First of all assure you have your distro updated, you can do it with
yum update
Then check if you are not using any third-party repo, that contains this packages.
If you can, remove all the php packages with
yum remove php*
and try to install them again.
If you can't solve it, try the Fedora EPEL repositories which provides some updated packages.
All the commands needs be run by root.
I created native installers for my air application successfully under MacOS and Windows.
With Ubuntu 10 I am able to create a .deb package, but when I launch it opens the Ubuntu software center showing error:
Dependency is not satisfiable: adobeair (>= 2.5.0.0)
I thought native installer should be able to download the proper adobe air version if available (2.5.1 seems available as deb package). If I install air for linux 2.5.1 from adobe website my application launches fine.
Did anyone experience the same issue?
Thanks in advance for any help
Paolo
Unfortunately, many years late "Adobe AIR for Linux is no longer supported." following what adobe page says. Using the "AIR archive" is possible to get unsupported versions, the 2.6.0 version is the most recent available. If you need to install a program that require a newer version of it, you might go to Virtual box with a Windows guest.
For version 2.6.0 the recommend steps for Ubuntu 16.10 are:
for 32bit machine
wget -O adobe-air_i386.deb http://drive.noobslab.com/data/apps/AdobeAir/adobeair_2.6.0.2_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i adobe-air_i386.deb
sudo apt-get install -f && rm adobe-air_i386.deb
for 64bit machine
wget -O adobe-air_amd64.deb http://drive.noobslab.com/data/apps/AdobeAir/adobeair_2.6.0.2_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i adobe-air_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install -f && rm adobe-air_amd64.deb
The recommend steps for Ubuntu 16.04/14.04/12.04/Linux Mint 18/17/13 (both extracted from here):
wget -O adobe-air.sh http://drive.noobslab.com/data/apps/AdobeAir/adobe-air.sh
chmod +x adobe-air.sh;sudo ./adobe-air.sh
What version of the adobeair package is available from the Ubuntu repositories?
A .deb is just an archive and the dependencies have to be available from the repositories the system is configured to use. It can't resolve the dependency by downloading it from some specific location you know of but the system is not configured to use.
If the needed version of the package is not available from the Ubuntu repositories then your only options are to reconfigure the system to use an additional repository that does have the needed dependency before you try to install your package, or download and manually install the dependency before you try to to install your package.
Try to install itdpkg -i --force-architecture adobeair.deb
