I want to update my android studio version to 3.4 from my current one (3.3.2).
But when I choose :
Help > Check for updates > Update and Restart
It looks like it is updating, after a few seconds I am getting this error :
Connection Error
Failed to prepare an update:
Temp directory inside installation: C:\Users\Tamir\.AndroidStudio3.3\system\tmp\patch-update
Open download page.
The "Open download page" link just sends me to downloading android studio
I really don't want to download android studio all over again, any ideas why I am getting this error?
Note- I have checked some stack overflow threads before asking this, the best thing I found was to Invalidate Caches/Restart but this did not fix the error.
In the end, I had to download Android studio 3.4 all over again.
The good thing is that when downloading a new version, if you already had another version of an android studio at the installation you will receive an option to delete the old version.
So if any of you are getting the same error don't worry about downloading android studio again, the installation is really fast.

In Android Studio, I am getting the following error when trying to run my app on an Android device:
The specified Gradle distribution 'https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-7.2-bin.zip' does not exist.
All my Android Studio projects are affected by this and restoring them to older commits does not change anything.
The problems all started by following the advice given here: Could not install Gradle distribution from 'https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.1-all.zip'
I deleted everything in my /.gradle/wrapper/dists/ folder. Now, I get the above error and I do not see how to solve it.
Here is how to reproduce it with Android Studio 2021.1.1 on Windows (but be warned: this might corrupt your projects, too):
Delete everything in /.gradle/wrapper/dists/
Create a new project "Test" in Android Studio (this might take a while, since gradle-7.2-bin.zip will be downloaded in the dists folder)
The project builds and runs without errors
Close Android Studio
Delete everything in /.gradle/wrapper/dists/ again
Open project "Test" in Android Studio
Try to run
Now you should get the above mentioned error.
At this point, /.gradle/wrapper/dists/ is still empty. Now you can do the following:
run gradlew tasks in Terminal in the Project Folder of "Test" (this will take a while, since gradle-7.2-bin.zip will be downloaded in the dists folder again)
run gradlew build (everything should build without errors)
But clicking on "Run" still yields the same error.
I am getting the impression that this is an AndroidStudio / IntelliJ bug.
Can anyone help me with this?
Running Android Studio as Administrator solved the problem for me
It turned out my Android Studio installation was heavily corrupted. Simply, uninstalling it and installing it again also did not help.
I basically had to do everything that was suggested here: How to completely uninstall Android Studio from windows(v10)? and delete everything related to Android Studio. I installed it again and now everything is fine again.
I do not know what the problem was. Maybe the .m2 folder, maybe the Jetbrains folder.
My advice to everyone facing the same issue:
First try around deleting caching folders. If nothing helps, go for the brute force approach and follow the answers (not only the accepted answer) of the above mentioned StackOverflow question.
I'm currently using Android Studio 4.0.1 and I've been trying to update it to the latest version that was recently released(4.0.2) but each time I click the update button, it displays the below error:
"Some conflicts were found in the installation area."
"Some of the conflicts below do not have a solution, so the patch cannot be applied."
"Press 'Cancel' to exit."
I have searched all the similar related issues on this site, some had similar issues with me but it didn't solve the error because the missing file it indicated has something to do with plugins and most people's own were different
A Screenshot of it:
I would like to know if there's anywhere I can get all the required latest plugins for Android studio because I previously uninstalled Android Studio, so maybe I wiped out the plugin files in the process. My current Android Gradle Plugin version is 4.0.1, then the Gradle version is 6.1.1.
Any Help will be appreciated
The folder where the studio is trying to install to may be the issue, You can always try to uninstall Android Studio and then install the version you wish to install.
Few days ago, I have update android studio 3.4.
Now, when I open any project or build new project it's stuck on indexing.
I have try many solution like "Invalid catch and restart", remove ".android", remove ".gradle" and remove ".AndroidStudio3.4" folder but still I have facing this issue in android studio 3.4.
When I forcefully close android studio from windows task manager then after android studio not starting again until restart system and task manager in showing android studio running.
How can I solved this issue?
Try reinstalling. No need to uninstall, you just need to follow the steps in the setup to remove that version. If your computer tells you that there are files with the same name then simply overwrite.
My compare files utility from Android Studio 2.3.3 is not working anymore, it shows the message "Can not calculate diff" and generate the following error on Event Log:
NullPointerException: update failed for ActionGroup: null (null)[null]
Here is the log captured by the Report to Google dialog
I'm using Mac, I already uninstalled Android Studio, Android-sdk, cloned the project again from git and deleted the Android folder under ~/User/MyUser/Library/Android, but the problem continues.
It does not happen with the other computers from my team.
Anyone knows how to fix this? It wasn't happening last week.
Delete Android Studio.app
Delete the following folders:
~/Library/Application Support/AndroidStudio
~/Library/Caches/AndroidStudio
~/Library/Logs/AndroidStudio
~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio
Reinstall Android Studio.
I have installed an Android studio from here. It worked, i wrote a hello world project and then closed it. But the IDE does not start second time. It gives me an error "caches are locked".
I installed unlocker and it says that no process blocks this folder. Does anybody know where is the problem? Thanks in advance.
I also faced this problem. I have solve my problem as follows:
Go to folder where android-studio is installed. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-studio)
Now go back to previous folder. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Android)
Right click on the android-studio folder and go to properties.
Now in Properties window, go to Security Tab.
Click the Edit Button
Now, a new window will open, here you click the Users(your-username-or-your-group-name)
Now, from the List below, Check "Allow" in front of "Full control"
Now press "OK", then again "OK"..
Its done.. Now you can use Android Studio easily instead of Running it As Administrator every time..

If you're like me, you could be trying to start a version prior to 0.2.0 (in my case 0.1.6)
Following Google's notes here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/studio.html
You'll need to remove and re-install Android Studio 0.2.0 & up
"Note: There is not a patch update available from 0.1.9 to 0.2. To update from Android Studio 0.1.x to 0.2.x, you must install a new Android Studio bundle from this page. The reason for that is that we have made changes to the bundled SDK such that it includes a pre-configured local Maven repository which can serve up the v4 support library and which is required for creating new projects."
Also be aware that if you have your Android SDK files stored here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-studio\sdk
You should move them before the uninstall or you'll need to download the SDK files again.
After the un-install and re-install now working on my Windows 7 64-bit system
