I'm using VisualStudio 2012. There is the toolbar with a lot of icons. I can adapt the toolbar nearly fully to my wishes.
But, there are certain commands that have not got an icon associated.
When I add one of these to the toolbar, there is not shown an icon, but the associated text. Which may be quite long. In my case, I want to have "Rebuild Solution" on the toolbar. This does not have an icon. And I'm using the german version of VS, where the text is "Projektmappe neu erstellen". Very long and quite unpleasing to see this much amount of space on the toolbar used by one command.
I'd like to have an icon here instead of this looong text.
If it is impossible to show an icon, I'd be content with a possibility to rename the thing in the toolbar, e.g. to "X", which would use much less space on the toolbar, too.
You can set "X" name for a toolbar item in VS toolbar options with the Modify Selection button:

As you can see in the image below, every time I open a project in Android Studio, the layout decorations option is deselected. How can I have it selected for default?
look on the top left of constraintLayout that you currently open, click on the eye icon and then click Show Layout Decorations. then you will be able to see it. but i don't know how to access it.

Im learning Android studio now and encounter this problem with Layout Preview. I cant see phone frame.Ok, it's not big deal, but in result I see that the toolbar was not counted in design. For better understanding look at picture Virtual Device and Layout preview comparison. For layout preview and virtual device I picked Nexus 6. Screen sizes should be exactly the same. In the picture you can see the button in the layout preview. But in the virtual device the button is almost completely out of the screen bounds.

Is there a way of showing all source code tabs in Android Studio one one horizontal line (in the tab bar) and scroll through them?
When there are too many source code tabs open in Android Studio, some of them are moved to the drop down list at the top right corner of the code edit window. The tabs that are moved to this drop down list are not shown in the tab bar any more.
The tabs in the tab bar can be scrolled with the mouse wheel, but only the ones that have not been moved to the drop down list.
Is there a way to remove the drop down list and keep all tabs in the tab bar?
Not sure if this feature was introduced in later versions of studio (than at the time of which this question was asked) but now you have option to show tabs in multiple rows. You can do so by
Windows -> Editor Tabs -> Tabs placement -> Show Tabs in single row
You can uncheck above which is checked by default. Snapshot below -
In android Studio 4.0.1 you can find tabs configuration in:
Window->Editor Tabs->Configure Editor Tabs...
After, uncheck "Show tabs in one row" checkbox if it is selected.
The size of the tab bar is fixed and there are only fixed number of tabs that can fit inside that limited area.So, one way to quickly switch between the open tabs is to use the SWITCHER tool of Android Studio.
Press control + tab in MAC (don't know the shortcut for windows) and it will bring all the classes and other files which are currently open and you can efficiently switch between them without even touching your mouse or touchpad.
For Linux you can do similar to MAC
I have on Linux/KDE a installed version of eclipse Mars.2. But there are strong problems with colors. So there is no different between a activated toolbar button and a inactive toolbar button. At example the "Link with editor" button of the "Project Explorer" view has exactly the same background color if the button is selected or not:
Another thing is that I cannot see if a checkbox or radio button is selected or not. It seems that the foreground color for the check/radio box selections is also identical to the background color. So there is in many configuration views no way to find out what's currently selected and wath's not. In the next screenshot at least one of the "Open mode" radio button must be selected (I assume it's "Double click" button):
Note also that the colors are only in eclipse wrong. In other (native) KDE applications I don't have these effects (at example the foreground of check boxes/radio buttons are black - like I have it expected). Also play around with the color settings in KDE "Application Appearance" has no effects ...
How can I change the colors of these stuff?
There is an Eclipse plugin that helps you import downloaded themes from the online marketplace (themes are free).

Ok. Found the solution for my problem on following site:

Mars is the first eclipse version which uses GTK3 (instead of GTK2 like eclipse versions before 4.5). And on the side above Andrey Loskutov wrotes that may be also the GTK theme (widget style) can be also the problem. The Widget style "oxygen-gtk" should be extremly buggy! After changing the widget style (to now "Adwaida") the problems are gone :-)
You can change the Widget style in KDE by opening in the KDE settings: "Application Appearance" and "GTK+ Appearance".
How can I switch between the tabs of a TabHost in the UI Designer for inserting content? Is there a keyboard shortcut or something else
I found a way to visualise any tab using TabHost in the UI Designer. Is probably not the best way, but it works.
1. Go to the Component Tree, where you have all the elements of the UI.
2. Inside the FrameLayout that TabHost automatically creates for you, there are the tabs.
3. If you change the order of the tabs just drag and dropping in the Component Tree, you get to see the one that is placed in the first position.
UPDATE:
According to this answer there is no way to change the tabs of a TabHost. That question refers to IntelliJ; I don't know if it applies to Android Studio.
Also, it seems that TabHost has been replaced by FragmentActivity and ActionBar. See Android how can i replace the deprecated tabhost? for a discussion.
It is defined as "Select next Tab in multi-editor file" in Settings -> Keymap.
On Windows it seems to default to CRTL+SHIFT+RIGHT/LEFT or ALT+SHIFT+RIGHT/LEFT. On my Mac it defaults to CTRL+SHIFT+RIGHT/LEFT.
Note that Studio doesn't allow the default Keymap to be edited so you will first need to copy the default and give it a new name.
