sqldeveloper on hidpi linux - linux

I have sqldeveloper 18.2 installation on hidpi machine (xps 9370 with 4k display) and it's unusable due to scaling issues.
I have tried to launch it using different options:
As is - interface icons and fonts too small
As is increasing interface font - text overlapping makes it unusable
Using gdk_scale with Java9
Using -Dsun.java2d.uiScale=2 with Java8
It seems points 3 and 4 do scaling but with glitches making it unusable again.
Glitch example
I'd like to stick with 4k resolution as it really has difference vs fullhd
I will appreciate if you can direct me where to dig or resolve the issue at all
Thank you!

Append to /opt/oracle-sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf the following: AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.uiScale=2 and it should work.

I've found solution! Just set -Dsun.java2d.xrender=true and sqldeveloper launched with almost no glitches.
File: {install_dir}/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf
There is some interesting point. "Show on startup" checkbox on welcome page is accessible while -Dsun.java2d.opengl is set to true. But this option leads to major ui drawing glitches

MyEclipse's accelerate keyszoom in(ctrl+-) and zoom out(ctrl+=) are invalid

I use myeclipse (version :myeclipse-2015-stable-3.0 or myeclipse-2016-ci-7) in windows 7, and I want to zoom in/out the fonts while editing by accelerate keys ctrl+ =/-,but they don't work.
I don't want to use the way that windows--preference--color and fonts--...to change fonts size because it isn't convenient, there is no accelerate keys confilcts also, and after changing accelerate keys, they still don't work.
Any ways to solve this problem?
Those commands don't seem to be defined in the General->Keys preferences page, for text editing, but even though they are defined in eclipse Mars (on which MyEclipse 2016 is based), they don't work there either. I can't find an eclipse bug for that, though there probably should be one.
However, I did find a solution, if you're willing to update to MyEclipse 2017 (the CI stream or the Stable stream), since the zoom function works fine there.

itcl tabnotebook missing tabs on Windows

I have a itcl/tk application that runs fine on Linux (and for the most part on Windows too). Have a frame where I packed an iwidgets::scrolledframe and within that an iwidgets::tabnotebook where two tabs were added.
Never have a problem on Linux, but on Windows (using Win7) often the 2nd tab is missing. Sometimes exiting and reinvoking the application on Windows and it will appear, but often it just never does. I have tried reorganizing code, inserted "update idletasks", to no avail.
Not sure if there are other tricks, or need to dig into itcl/tk installed code, or if could be a potentially a PC machine hardware issue.
Any ideas or suggestions of things to try will be graciously appreciated.
Turns out I appeared to resolve this via a strategically place update idletasks afterall. ;)

In jVI for Netbeans, the cursor won't appear

Depending on the font I use, I might see a quarter of a cursor (lower right rectangle not flashing) in the wrong place, or no cursor at all. Still, the line I'm on highlights and the column number is displayed in the lower right.
I've tried a mix of fixed-width fonts at a mix of sizes (11-14), including the default Monospace, MacVim's Menlo, the awful Courier, and another q-a site's suggested Consolas.
Any ideas how to get the cursor to show up would be great. Alternate ways to get Vi keybindings in NetBeans also acceptable, though it seems jVi is the most current / active effort.
NetBeans 7.1.2
EDIT:
Image showing no cursor with highlighting
Image showing actually two partial cursors, which I'd never seen before:
There is a problem with the Mac Retina, which is like this problem. The latest jVi release has a workaround, you need to turn on the option
Tools > Options > jViConfig > Platform > MacRetinaCursorXorBug
I had the same problem in Netbeans 8.0.2. Workaround for this is to disable following option:
Tools->Options->jVi config->platform->use modal frame
I found the solution here which solves other problems with cursor too. I hope this will help you.
Cheers
ubuntu - 14.04
java 1.7.0_121
netbeans - 8.2
jvi - 1.5.4
i had the same issue and 'use model frame' was already enabled. Enabling 'MacRetinaCursorXorBug' fixed the issue. i have set the frequency of the cursor to 500 to be on the safer side.
Enabling the option MacRetinaCursorXorBug under Tools > Options > jViConfig > Platform was the only working solution for me among a bunch of other suggested workarounds. So it's important to mention that this setting could be required even on non Mac Systems.
(Tested on environment: Netbeans IDE 8.0.2, Ubuntu 15.04 with Kernel 3.19.0-16, XFCE-Desktop 4.12, VirtualBox 4.3.28)
Setting the blink rate to 500 as suggested by develucas fixed this for me on Ubuntu and Netbeans 8.1, though it still disappears whilst moving it reappears shortly after it becomes stationary, makes jvi useable again.

X11 with window decorations on ubuntu mini distro

Goal: To display an application in the middle of the screen on a solid colour background. This means nothing else showing no gnome-desktop nothing apart from the application and the solid colour background.
Currently I'm using X11 for the background xstart -solid Grey which is great however as a test application I'm running firefox which I see has no window decorations ie: max, min title or boarder neither for that matter does xterm. I was wondering if it is possible to show the decorations without installing gnome possibly by installing just the themes eg: gnome-themes which I have done but have been unable to make the connection, or weather just running X isn't going to work without more gnome modules. I'm new to delving into the inner workings of linux as I've never had to deal with it before. I did ask a question previously which led me to xstart and xsetroot and I've been playing around with them for a bit trying to familiarise myself.
I do recognise that it is possible that I have gone about this all wrong, but if we don't try we don't learn.
If anyone knows of any tutorials or documentation that could help or if anyone has any tips I'd be grateful for the pointers.
Cheers
Chris
SOLUTION
Just thought I'd mention that I solved my issue after installing an ubuntu server distro I added xinit via apt-get then added metacity Then I edited the gconf files using gconf-editor then removed the Gnome-panels from /usr/bin However as I may possibly require them in the future I have made a copy of them before I deleted them. Thanks again for the help it was much appreciated.
The window decorations are created/managed by the window manager. If you don't have one running, you won't get window decorations.
Ok... I think I understand what you are asking. Gnome is a "Desktop", and includes with it one of many "Window Managers" called Metacity if I remember correctly. That is the part that adds the title and borders etc. There are many pure window managers(not desktops). A common and popular "Window Manager" is fluxbox although there are many others. Fluxbox does allow you to "undecroate" a window when you launch it. I'm not sure if this is what you are asking. Hopefully it is of some help.

Solaris 10 keyboard problem

Im runing Solaris 10 - but im having problems with the keyboard.
Instead of - i get /, and instead of y i get z, etc. I tried changing every option in the menu "Keyboard Behaviour". I also tried changing kmdconfig from xorg to xsun, but then the graphics goes all wild and ugly - although the keyboard works fine then. Also cant change resolution in xsun mode.
By the way, im runing Solaris from Vmware, but i doubt this has anything to do with this.
Leave the graphic environment to the console:
dtconfig -d
dtconfig -reset
Select the correct keyboard layout you use:
kbd -s
Load it:
loadkeys
Check the keys are working properly. If okay, enable the graphical environment again:
dtconfig -e
If that still works, make that choice persistent after a reboot by updating your eeprom. eg:
eeprom kbd-type=Spanish
This should be migrated to superuser.com
It seems that you are expecting a german keyboard layout but are getting a US layout - at least the differences you are seeing are differences between those layouts. I don't know where to change that in openSolaris, but maybe it helps you find the correct place to look. Whatever desktop environment that you are using, it should have a tool to change the keyboard layout, probably somewhere with the other internationalization settings.
