I am trying to generate a random date and then add 5 number of days to it. it works fine most of the times but when the new date goes into next year, the result is actually going back to the beginning of the same year. Not sure why.. here is my code
Date today = new Date();
def endRange = 1500
def randomInterval = new Random().nextInt(endRange)
startDate = today.plus(randomInterval)
endDate= startDate.plus(5)
I run this in loop for 1000 times and 18 out of those are either resetting back to the same year or adding one year. not sure why. Below are two example output results
startdate enddate
2022-12-27 -- > 2022-01-01
2020-12-26 -- > 2021-12-31

after a bit digging, this is happening after I change the date format to "YYYY-MM-dd" before writing to excel as that is the format I need. and it is consistently happening to any date that gets rolled over to next year after adding 5 days.

looks like the "YYYY" in .format('YYYY-MM-dd') is causing issue its fixed after changing it to "yyyy" in .format('yyyy-MM-dd')

I'm scraping a website with requests. The URL requires dynamic dates so i'm generating the dates to use with the following variables:

For this example, i'm running this script on 11/30/2022 (last day of the month).
stmDt = start this month date (first day of month on which we run script - 11/1/2022)
todDt = today (11/30/2022)
snmDt = start next month (12/1/2022)
enmDt = end next month (12/31/2022)
The date variables are correct most of the time, but it appears (for november run dates):
On the first day of the month: stmDt shows the first day of the
previous month (10/1/22)
On the last day of the month: enmDt shows the last day two months
from now (1/31/23)
How can I tweak these so they always give me the correct dates? Happy to use other packages to accomplish etc

i written a code in vb for finding the last month. but i didn't get the output which i am expecting.

Use the DateAdd function. More specifically:

Having a lot of trouble translating the logic below in pandas/python, so I do not even have sample code or a df to work with :x
I run a daily report, that essentially filters for data from Monday thru the day before what 'Today' is. I have a Date column [ in dt.strftime('%#m/%#d/%Y') format] . It will never be longer than a Monday-Sunday scope.
1) Recognize the day it is 'today' when running the report, and recognize what day the closet Monday prior was. Filter the "Date" Column for the Monday-day before today's date [ in dt.strftime('%#m/%#d/%Y') format ]
2) Once the df is filtered for that, take this group of rows that have dates in the logic above, have it check for dates in a new column "Date2". If any dates are before the Monday Date, in Date2, change all of those earlier dates in 'Date2' to the Monday date it the 'Date' column.
3) If 'Today' is a Monday, then filter the scope from the Prior Monday through - Sunday in the "Date" Column. While this is filtered, do the step above [step 2] but also, for any dates in the "Date2" column that are Saturday and Sunday Dates - changes those to the Friday date.
Does this make sense?

I am new to Python. I was just wondering, how can you write code that makes beyond a certain date an invalid input. For example, if the user inputs anything after 12/02/2013, it will produce an error. Everything after that date will work perfectly
As glibdud suggested, use datetime objects.

I have a data sheet which looks like:

Note the column month contains text string. I need to create a new column flag in excel which filters which months are to be used in calculating rolling 12M averages for current month and which months are to be used for calculating rolling 12M averages for previous year.
For example today's date is 5/24/2018, so month 2018-05 will be marked as "current". months between 2018-04 to 2017-05 will be marked as "both". month 2017-04 will be marked as "previous". Rest all months will be marked as NA. My final data should look like this:

I am having trouble implementing this logic in excel as the column month is a text string and simply using IF condition doesn't works for me. Any leads on this is appreciated.

I tried converting the months to a number by using =DATEVALUE(B2 & "-01").
I stored the number for current month in a variable curr.
Now I am using the following formula =IF(B22=curr,"Current", IF(B2=curr-395,"Previous","Both")).
This creates the flag column which I require although there's still an issue based on whether the month has 30 or 31 days. Any solutions for this please?
One way to do it is to use DATDIF.
=DATEVALUE(B2 & "-01") will give you the first of each month in column B.
To return the month number use =DATEDIF(C2,TODAY(),"m") where column C holds the DATEVALUE formula. This will return 0 for this month, 1 for last month... 13 for April 2017.
Now check to see if the count of months = 0 then it's current, if it's greater than 11 it's NA, otherwise it's both. =IF(D2=0,"Current",IF(D2>11,"NA","Both"))

That's wrong - forgot the "Previous" and "Both" isn't 12 months ....
