how to avoid new socket connection on page refresh? I have a game which starts on two socket connections in a room but during the middle of the game i refresh the page and the game progress is lost and a new game starts if there is a new opponent waiting.I want this to be avoided , any idea? Plese help , i am really stuck into this

You can't, the websocket connection is closed automatically when the page is closed (refreshed).
You would have to implement your own session logic, maybe store cookie/localStorage data on the client side and restore the (previous) client data on page load.
If your game data is stored on the server, you would have to implement some sort of authentication so you know that game data X is from user Y, so when user Y (identified based on cookies) loads the page again the server returns his previous data X.
If you need a more specific example you would first have to explain what data you want to be persisted between page loads, keeping in mind that persisting the websocket connection is not possible. I would recommend instead making your game work more like a SPA so you entirely eliminate the need to refresh (this still won't maintain progress if user intentionally refreshes the page or closes the tab).

I'm running a chat server using node.js and socket and want to send message to specific client.I use socket.id to send the message to the defined user,like this:

but there is a problem:
user remains connect but socket id changes rapidly(About once per second) so i can not use socket.id.I tried socket.join(user email) to use user email instead of socket id but after socket id changes it does not work any more.
what's the best way to solve this?session-id?If yes,how?chat application for clients runs on android device.

Making my comment into an answer since it was indeed the issue:
The problem to fix is the rapidly disconnecting/reconnecting clients. That is a clear sign that something in the configuration is not correct.
It could be that network infrastructure is not properly configured to allow long lasting socket.io/webSocket connections. Or, if your system is clustered, it could be caused by non-sticky load balancing.
So, each time the connection is shut-down by the network infrastructure, the client-side socket.io library tries to reconnect creating a new ID for the new connection.

What is the proper way to emit an event with socket.io?

I want to emit an event to the client when a long fucntion comes to an end.
This will show a hidden div with a link - on the client side.

This whole concept is likely a bit flawed. Let me state some facts about this environment that you must fully understand before you can follow what needs to happen:
When the browser does a POST, there's an existing page in the browser that issues the post.
If that POST is issued from a form post (not a post from Javascript in the page), then when you send back the response with res.render(), the browser will close down the previous page and render the new page.
Any socket.io connection from the previous page will be closed. If the new page from the res.render() has Javascript in it, when that Javascript runs, it may or may not create a new socket.io connection to your server. In any case, that won't happen until some time AFTER the res.render() is called as the browser has to receive the new page, parse it, then run the Javascript in it which has to then connect socket.io to your server again.
Remember that servers handle lots of clients. They are a one-to-many environment. So, you could easily have hundreds or thousands of clients that all have a socket.io connection to your server. So, your server can never assume there is ONE socket.io connection and sending to that one connection will go to a particular page. The server must keep track of N socket.io connections.
If the server ever wants to emit to a particular page, it has to create a means of figuring out which exact socket.io connect belongs to the page that it is trying to emit to, get that particular socket and call socket.emit() only on that particular socket. The server can never do this by creating some server-wide variable named socket and using that. A multi-user server can never do that.
The usual way to "track" a given client as it returns time after time to a server is by setting a unique cookie when the client first connects to your server. From then on, every connection from that client to your server (until the cookie expires or is somehow deleted by the browser) whether the client is connection for an http request or is making a socket.io connection (which also starts with an http request) will present the cookie and you can then tell which client it is from that cookie.
So, my understanding of your problem is that you'd like to get a form POST from the client, return back to the client a rendered processing.ejs and then sometime later, you'd like to communicate with that rendered page in the client via socket.io. To do that, the following steps must occur.
Whenever the client makes the POST to your server, you must make sure there is a unique cookie sent back to that client. If the cookie already exists, you can leave it. If it does not exist, you must create a new one. This can be done manually, or you can use express-session to do it for you. I'd suggest using express-session because it will make the following steps easier and I will outline steps assuming you are using express-session.
Your processing.ejs page must have Javascript in it that makes a socket.io connection to your server and registers a message listener for your "dlready" message that your server will emit.
You will need a top-level io.on('connection', ...) on your server that puts the socket into the session object. Because the client can connect from multiple tabs, if you don't want that to cause trouble, you probably have to maintain an array of sockets in the session object.
You will need a socket.on('disconnect', ...) handler on your server that can remove a socket from the session object it's been stored in when it disconnects.
In your app.post() handler, when you are ready to send the dlready message, you will have to find the appropriate socket for that browser in the session object for that page and emit to that socket(s). If there are none because the page you rendered has not yet connected, you will have to wait for it to connect (this is tricky to do efficiently).
If the POST request comes in from Javascript in the page rather than from a form post, then things are slightly simpler because the browser won't close the current page and start a new page and thus the current socket.io connection will stay connected. You could still completely change the page visuals using client-side Javascript if you wanted. I would recommend this option.

How can I identify user when user reload the page

I'm creating a card game like crazy8. And I already publish prototype.

My problem is, when I reload the page during the game, socket is disconnected and my socket.id is changed.
So server side program can't identify me. Now, server remove player from table when socket is disconnected.(because if server don't remove the player who server can't identify, game is stopped, so I program). But if I can identify user, I don't want to remove player who just reload the page from table.
QUESTION: how can I identify user when user reload the page?
I think using cookie as ID is best for this problem. Are there Other solutions?
Other options would include:
Using local storage on the client
Passing query string values in the url
Posting the user id as part as the refresh
Storing the user in a server side session
Storing user information in redis cache.

After reading your question I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) that once a user refreshes the page (reconnects his socket) the socket ID changes (obviously) and you can't identify the user.
First of all, you shouldn't keep track of user using his socket ID as the socket ID will change every time the user reconnects. You should keep track of the socket ID for communication with the user AFTER you have identified the user.
So, what I would do is make an "authenticate" event on the server side and disconnect those sockets who don't emit the "authenticate" event. This event can expect any form of credentials (JWT, username:password etc).
After the user has been authenticated, you can take that socket ID and map that to the user ID and use the socket ID for further communication.
So the server side flow will be like this:

After going to your app, I found that there is no authentication required. This should not be the case as I can highjack any user's slot at the table by just sending his/her name.
If you are okay with that then perhaps you can just keep track of the user name and map it to socket ID on connect.

How can I enforce a maximum number of connections from one user with Socket.IO?

I have a very simple Socket.IO group chat system (this one). I want to prevent people from spamming new connections from their browser using JavaScript trickery. This was a problem the one time I publicized the website.
What measure should I use to prevent this? I want to count the number of connections from a browser and it it goes over a threshold, I want to drop all connections. Should I use the IP address? Is the socket.id unique to a user? How should I do it?

I had the same issue in a multiplayer game, to prevent a user playing through more than one tabs.
There's so many ways a client can refuse to be identified, and having their way of logging in with more than one ID. But since you only want to prevent a user in the same browser it's relatively easy.
First, use passport for authentication and passport.socketio to "bridge" req.user from Express middleware to socket.request.user
Next, since io.on('connection') will always fire for the latest socket request from the client, you can use this as an opportunity to "expire" any old sockets still connected from the same client. This is where socket.request.user will come in handy to identify whether it's the same user client. Something like this:

I need to send data to nodejs server via socket.io when the user closes the browser tab .
I tried doing :

When user connects - register on server side the time it happened.
Socket.IO has heart beating and pinging functionality. So just subscribe to disconnect event on server side and once it happens - means client disconnected - and you have on server time when client had connection. So that way you have timespan of client session.
Do not trust client to tell you any time or important data, as client can simply 'lie' - which leads to hacks/cheats/bugs on your server-side.
There is no reliable way to send data just before disconnect from client-side at all. There is nothing in Socket.IO for that, nor in just one of transports (WebSockets). As well as there is too many different scenarios of disconnection (power off, force close, ethernet cable out, wifi lose, etc).
