How to read the changes in page (layout) in liferay DXP? - liferay

Is there any service to read changes in page( layout) in liferay DXP?

Layout changes are stored in layout table in Liferay.
You can create Modal Listener that listen's event on a table.
It has methods like onAfterUpdate,onAfterCreate,onAfterRemove etc which might help you.
For details you can refer

How to update Layout in PortletLayoutListener

The goal is to implement a Tab Portlet - portlet for displaying and managing tabs containing nested portlets (similar to Nested Portlets Portlet).
One of the requirements is to remove the nested portlet references from Layout on Tab Portlet removal.
I implemented PortletLayoutListener and indeed, method onRemoveFromLayout is called on Tab Portlet removal. The listener updates the layout. While debugging the listener, I can verify that the changes were written to Liferay database (to LAYOUT table).
The Layout instance is obtained through LayoutLocalServiceUtil.getLayout(plid) method.
The update is performed with LayoutLocalServiceUtil.updateLayout method.
The problem is that the listener is called from UpdateLayoutAction, which afterwards updates the Layout itsef and overwrites my changes (it reverts them).
The question is - is it possible to update Layout in PortletLayoutListener.onRemoveFromLayout method? If not, is there other option I could use?
Hi the PortletLayoutListeners are intended to be used in relation to the portlet. So if you want to react on a change on the page in your portlet.
If you want to change the portal, I would have a look at the model listeners. Create a hook with a Layout model listener and try to make you changes in the afterUpdate method. But be careful not to affect the performance.
You may even require both of the classes one to make an indication and the second one to make a change.

Replacing sitecore layout in parent and child items

I am creating a new footer sublayout in sitecore for use in multiple sites (we run a multi site environment). Currently a sublayout called StandardLayout is used, but I would like to change this across several of our sites to a new layout GlobalFooter.
The problem is that child items of the Home Page have overridden layout components, so what I would like to know is if there is an easy way to change the layout without losing all of the overridden components (as I expect that I may need to reset the layout in order for the flow down to occur)?
I am hoping to be able to just change the top level element (Home) and then have this flow down to the child elements, otherwise this task will become very long and tedious if I need to go through each item and change the presentation to use the new footer.
The icon circled in red in the image above indicates that the presentation has been overridden for that particular sitecore item.
To answer your question, directly, there is no way to apply an update of the presentation details of a template to templates that inherit from it that have had their presentation details changed without losing the changes.
The solution described in the blog post you linked to is the best solution for updating inherited presentation details in this manner. IMHO, I believe that this functionality should have been built into Sitecore long ago as a separate button on the ribbon, and you may choose to add one if you are so inclined. If you do not have the time to do so however, creating an admin page that you later delete from the site after using is a perfectly viable solution as well.
This post appears to detail a way that I can achieve my goal, basically I would create a admin page that does not publish and put the code in the blog into it to update the layout via a button trigger.

Placement of portlets on a liferay page

I am using 1-2 Columns (70-30) layout for the page in liferay. The problem that I am facing is that I am not able to place them properly in 1-2 columns form even after dragging them properly on the page. I am making use of web content portlets. The portlet that should be placed on '30' side;its data appears the way I want on the RHS but the portlet window covers the entire screen. How should I place the portlets to get the exact 1-2 columns layout?
EDIT:
Is it possible to place a portlet over another portlet?
If the portlets that you are trying to place are custom portlets, It may be worth checking if custom css width property forcing portlet to occupy more width than supposed.
You can't place one portlet over another portlet. But "Nested Portlet" can be used to include more than one portlet in their own layout.
As you don't have public URL, I can only suggest steps to debug your issue.
Login to portal as Administrator.
Create a new page.
Apply liferay default classic theme to the page and apply 70-30 layout.
Add one Web content display portlet instance in column 1 and another in column 2.
Checkpoint: Enable Edit checkbox and see if the default portlet boundaries are occupying width they are supposed to take. If yes, then your liferay default working fine.
Checkpoint: Select your web content article and see if width of display changes. If Yes, then the problem is with with your web content article.
Checkpoint: Apply your theme and then see the issue. Then issue may be with your custom css files in _diff folder.
Use Firebug in Firefox or chrome dom viewer (F12 in chrome window) and observe which CSS style is causing the issue.

Opening different xpages forms from a view panel

I have an Xpages application that pulls data from another .nsf file. I have a view panel linked to a view in that db. The view has documents with several different forms in it. I want to be able to open each document in it's own form(xpage).
How do I write a computed At Runtime, open selected document using: statement that will select the correct Xpage to present the document.
If you use the Data View component instead of a View Panel, you can compute the pageName attribute, referencing the var attribute to return a different value for each row based on the document that row represents. The flexibility of the Data View component also makes it easier to make your app look more like a modern web application and less like an Excel spreadsheet. As an additional bonus, the mobile theme invokes a renderer that makes each Data View instance look like a native mobile list, so using Data Views instead of View Panels simplifies mobile development.
You have 2 options:
use "use xpage associated with form" and edit the form's property
use a SSJS formula to compute the Form. You provide a variable name in the view control var to access a view row as XSPViewEntry. If the Form is in a view column even one you don't display you use .getColumnValue otherwise getDocument.getItemValueString
Does that work for you?
Maybe this mothed can help you: Unable to get document page name for
Hope this helps
Mark
I had a similar problem today. I use only one form but 3 different xpages for associated with this form. I have 3 different document types in the view. I used rowData the get the type of the document.
try{
var v=rowData.getColumnValue("form");
if(v.indexOf("x")> -1){var page ="x.xsp"}
else if(v.indexOf("y") > -1){var page = "y.xsp"}
else{var page = "z.xsp"}
}catch(e){
var page = "x.xsp"
}
So to your view you can create a column with the value of the form and you can use it.
I have used the extension library Dynamic View control which has an event you can code to get a handle to the NotesViewEntry which was selected. See the demo database page Domino_DynamicView.xsp and the Custom Event Handler tab for an example.
Note, in 8.5.3 (I have not upgraded yet) if you add or edit the eventHandler for onColumnClick it will be added to the XPages source as an xe:eventHandler. It needs to be an xp:eventHandler to work. The way to do it is to copy the code in the source from the exiting event and delete it. Recreate the event and update the code. Then go back into the source and change the tags within the eventHandler to xp:.

XPages Open view and open XPage in edit mode

I've told a view to open using an XPage, but how do I open that XPage in edit mode?
I will suggest that you buy and read the Mastering XPages book to learn the basics of handling views and documents in XPages. The book contains material that describes exactly what you are looking for (how to open an XPage in read and edit mode).
I will assume your question relates to the XPage being used to open the selected document from the view and not the view itself as it is not possible to either define an XPage to to launch a view or for a view to be in "Edit Mode"...
When specifying the document data source for an XPage it is possible to define the default action as being Edit Document or Open Document. This sets the "action" property of the data source
The XPage itself has a "readonly" property that can be set to a specific value or computed. This is not tied to a specific data source.
It is possible to add a panel container control to the XPage and set the "readonly" property of the panel. This will allow all the controls inside the panel to be rendered as editable or readonly.
views and xpages cannot be in edit mode, only document data sources can be in edit mode.
In addition to the readonly properties that Peter mentioned:
It is possible that a custom control got its own data source while the one from a parent (e.g. the xpage) is in edit mode. That's the mistake i make often while binding controls to data fields.
