Been looking online for a list of supported operating systems for nodejs, but after version 4.0, there is no place to find this information.
Anyone knows where it can be found? In particular for windows 2012
Officially, according to this announcement:
Node is supported on Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, or higher.
On https://nodejs.org/en/download/ both 32 and 64-bit versions are available.
See this answer for more details and links.

I need to install Microsoft XML Parser 4.0 from Inno Setup.
How can that be done?
I was given a task to embed MSXML in the installer of ours. It's a proprietary piece of software our company makes (for accounting, it uses XML to store and exchange data). Apart from modern systems It's also going to be installed on many old systems using Windows XP.
I'm using Inno Setup 6.1.2.
Also, is there a quiet mode of installation as an option? So the users won't have to click anything and just be notified that MSXML was installed?
Did you Google this?
https://silent-install.net/software/microsoft/msxml_parser/4.30.2107.0
Eg:
msxml.msi /qn /L* "%temp%\XML Parser 4.30.2107.0.log" /norestart ALLUSERS=2
If you look at the Msiexec (command-line options) it does say the qn switch will display no user interface.
Somewhat of an aside, the requirement of installing both on XP and on 'modern' systems may create a conflict that you or your installer will have to resolve.
From Installing and Redistributing MSXML 4.0:
System Requirements
MSXML 4.0 is supported in Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows
Server 2008, Windows Vista Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and
Windows 2000
From Installing and Redistributing MSXML 6.0:
System Requirements
MSXML 6.0 is supported in Windows Vista; Windows 2000 Service Pack 4;
Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows XP
Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2.
MSXML 6.0 is preinstalled with Windows Vista. For earlier versions of
Windows, you can install MSXML 6.0 as a separate download.
So you can only use MSXML4 below Vista. And with Vista and above you should be able to reply on MSXML6 already existing.
Your installer could perform an OS version check (alt ref) and then only install MSXML4 if needed. Or you might be able to detect specifically if MSXML6 is installed and then install MSXML4 only if not (assuming therefore its an older system).
But I would test your application (if you haven't already) and see if it will run against MSXML6; it may, without changes. If so then I would forget MSXML4 and include MSXML6 in the installer instead (*). That way your installer could just run it 100% of the time, and expect that on Vista and up it would just do nothing. Your installer would therefore be simpler plus you would be taking advantage of "MSXML 6.0 provides security and performance improvements over earlier MSXML versions." noted here.
(*) Unless you have to run on WinXP pre-SP1?
How can I check what version of Windows Imaging Component is installed on a Windows machine? I suspect the Windows 2008 Servers used in Azure do not have the same version that I have on my Windows 7 development machine. I just want to verify that as I need the latest TIFF codec.
Will not make a definite statement, but I think that the WIC on the Windows Azure is the same what you have on your Windows 7. Just be aware that there are 2 OS families in Windows Azure. OS Family 1.x is using Windows Server 2008 SP1 as base, while OS Family 2 is using Windows Server 2008 R2 as base.
From what I read about WIC, I see it is part of Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2, so, if you target your application for OS Family 2, you shall nothave issues. Unless there is some update, or more recent version which has installer. If there is an installer, you can simply use a startup task to install the exact version you need.
UPDATE
Refering this post confirms that Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008 R2 come with WIC. While a platform update is required for Windows Vist / Windows Server 2008 (you must install Server 2008 SP2 before the update is available). So, if you target OS Family 2.x (recommended anyway) you get the same WIC you get in your Windows 7 machine.
I'm a little new on Window Embedded Compact 7.0(WEC 7) so I have some question about it :
1- Is there any handheld device that runs with it? All I found run on 6.5 and lower win CE versions ( check this link please : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/evaluate/windows-embedded-handheld-devices.aspx)
2- what's its .Net framework version? .NET CF 3.5 or .NET CF 3.7 ? I don't know whether its technology related to windows 7 or windows phone 7. If its .NET version is .NET CF 3.7, can I run my old .NET 3.5 apps over it or I should change them to silverlight version? (As I know I cannot run them on windows phone 7)
3-I couldn't find any screenshot of it.
4- For window phone 7, there is a free add-on on VS 2010 for development (although publishing is not free). Is there any free development toolkit & emulator(handheld emulator indeed)?
Thanks in advance
4-..or Completely I'm in a wrong way of thinking? ;-)
About your questions:
1- Is there any handheld device that runs with it?
Yes there are.
The Windows Embedded Partner Program might give you more alternatives
2- what's its .Net framework version? .NET CF 3.5 or .NET CF 3.7 ?
Windows Embedded Compact 7 includes the .NET Compact Framework 3.5
I don't know whether its technology related to windows 7 or windows phone 7.
AFAIK, it is not related to Windows 7, and it is not realated at all with Windows Phone 7.
If its .NET version is .NET CF 3.7, can I run my old .NET 3.5 apps over it?
The .NETCF version is 3.5, so yes, you can run your old >NETCF applications.
or I should change them to silverlight version?
If you do that, then your application will not work anymore. WinCE 7 does not support managed silverlight, it only supports something that is somehow called Silverlight but it actually targets development in native code using C++.
3-I couldn't find any screenshot of it.
Here, enjoy:
4- For window phone 7, there is a free add-on on VS 2010 for development (although publishing is not free). Is there any free development toolkit & emulator(handheld emulator indeed)?
You can use VS 2008, but AFAIK it is not possible at this time to create an emulator for it, since Microsoft has not released the Emulator BSP for WinCE 7.
I want to update the IIS server from 5.0 to 6.0 or higher.
The condition is that I cant upgrade the server. My machine is Windows XP SP3
Is there any way I can only update the IIS.
You can install IIS Express 7.5 on Windows XP. Note that the Express version is a lightweight (yet fully featured) version of IIS meant for development purposes, not production hosting. You shouldn't use Windows XP as a production server anyway.
You can run it on XP Pro 32bit
Check the link here - http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/868/iis-express-overview/
I have installed IIS 6.0 Manager for my Windows XP SP3 32-bit from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15662
In Control Panel->Administration Tool (I guess its name translated from italian :) now I have two items:
Internet Information Services - the 5.1 version bundled with the OS
Internet Information Services (IIS6) Manager - the installed version from the link above
I have Windows 7 installed on my laptop. I want to know what is the best way to install MOSS 2007 on my laptop?
I heard that MOSS 2007 can be directly installed on Windows 7. I want to know if there are ny problems if I do this
Or should I install Windows SErver 2008 on VM and then install MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008. Is it possible to install Windows Server 2008 VM on Windows 7??
Please let me know the best option...
MOSS 2007 can be installed on Windows Vista/7 but it's not supported and at your own risks (here is the link but it doesn't work righ now: http://community.bamboosolutions.com/blogs/bambooteamblog/archive/2008/05/21/how-to-install-windows-sharepoint-services-3-0-sp1-on-vista-x64-x86.aspx)
It is possible to installed Windows Server 2008 on Windows 7, but you'll need a x64 version of 2008. You'll have to use VMWare or Virtual Sunbox which will need a lot of extra ressources.
Unless you have a really powerful computer, the best choice is a dual boot Win7 / Windows 2008.
Note: With SharePoint 2010, it is supported to install SharePoint directly on Windows 7.
