I'm trying convert .exe into .appx.
I'm using Desktop App Creator, a tool offered by Microsoft.
I've followed their documentation with no problem so far, and when I execute the command to perform the conversion (in verbose mode) the program freezes at the same point every time I launch it (with no errors/exceptions/warnings before the freeze).
In the block of the verbose "Running Installer in Isolated Environment", the last verbose line shown is "Waiting for installer process to complete inside Isolated Environment".
I've left it for 2h waiting but nothing happens.
Also, the only way to stop the shell is to close the window, it seems to be unresponsive for Ctrl+C.
I would appreciate any help for this, there's nothing to be found in the program's documentation about this.

I had the same problem. The solution is that you need to run your installer in the isolated environment in silent mode in order to not display the wizard menu, because you cannot see the isolated environment and click the on the wizard buttons.
Add to DesktopAppConverter -Installer this argument:
-InstallerArguments /SILENT
Before running make sure you can install your application in silent mode by running:
setup.exe /SILENT
I had the same problem a few days ago
replacing "/S" argument with "/quiet" in -InstallerArguments, for me worked!

I am building an installer in Inno Setup v6.2.1 with prerequisites, which include .NET, runtimes, and KB fixes (Windows 7 SP1). The goal is to do potentially several reboots depending on if the machine is missing KBs or .NET etc.
I am able to achieve what I want so far using PrepareToInstall and can change the text by returning the appropriate string. No problems... however I can't find a way of changing the.
Setup must restart your computer. After restarting your computer, run Setup again to complete the installation of xxxxx
Because I am creating a runonce entry, the installer will automatically run after reboot (which it does). The text "run Setup again" is not relevant in my situation and I want to change the text to say that the installer will continue once you restart.
I have tried to find where to change this text but with no success. I assume that PreparingMemo might be the candidate but no luck or not sure how to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

This particular message is defined by the PrepareToInstallNeedsRestart message.
You can change it in the [Messages] section:

PrepareToInstallNeedsRestart=Setup must restart your computer. After restarting your computer, the Setup will continue to complete the installation of [name].%n%nWould you like to restart now?
If you need to change the message text dynamically, assign WizardForm.PreparingLabel.Caption. E.g. from CurPageChanged(wpPreparing) event.
this is my first time on such a prestidigious site, so please welcome me by assisting me. I am doing independent development and am primarily a music designer. So that is why I may not sound like a real pro coder but nevertheless truly love creating my music through automative processes.
My present issue is this:
Windows 8.1 Pro
AutoHotkey 1.0.48.5 32bit (running as Admin)
Everytime I attempt to use the command 'RUN' with an .ahk target, I get the expected result except that the .ahk residing folder is opened by MS Explorer. I suspect that something like the fact that AutoHokey is an unsigned app, windows does not want it to run flawlessly. I am now trying a number of Administrative Tool Services disabling, but with no success yet.

I tried the 'Comspec' approach as well as running an .ahk from within a batchfile, but the .ahk always get intercepted whenever it contains a 'RUN' command requesting an .ahk target.

You are using outdated version of AutoHotkey which is more than 5 years old. Always use AutoHotkey and its documenatation from http://ahkscript.org/ (current uptodate version, new official website)! AutoHotkey and its documentation from autohotkey.com is outdated and you may have some problems using them!
One thing to try if you only have this problem on win 8 is to Enable interaction with administrative programs http://www.autohotkey.com/board/topic/70449-enable-interaction-with-administrative-programs/
That script modifies the executable file's embedded manifest, then creates and installs a self-signed certificate and uses it to sign the file. The executable will not run on any other system, unless you install the certificate used to sign the file.
But lets see some script code that way we have something to test with and can better help you out...
I have a JavaFX application that should check if it has already been launched when you launch it (need only single instance running at the time). The problem is how to define it!
I have tried packing my JavaFX application into .exe file (or make an .exe launcher) that will be shown as the "MyProg.exe" process in the Windows task manager, not the "javaw.exe". But it is not the solution (I've tried netbeans' tools) because it adds jre to my application thus enlarging it from 1 mb. to 130+ mb. (can you help me with it?)
I've tried launch4j, but both launcher and .exe package starts javaw.exe to run my app. And when I check process manager and see 2 javaw.exe I don't know, is it 2 instances of my app or just another app running?
I hope I described it clearand will be very thankful if somebody can help me with it!
Judging by your approach it seems that you are already found a way to get a list of Windows' processes from Java. In this case you can use one of the next solutions:
Take other process info into account. E.g. command line or window title. Windows command line can be retrieved using wmic.exe PROCESS command and for Unix-bases systems by ps -Af.
When your program starts store it's process id in the registry or file in homedir. When another instance starts it should check that value and if process with that id alive then just exit.

I found the way to do this was to create a scheduled task with a trigger for "on startup". This starts the application before windows logon. This is particularly useful in a server type environment if you need to have something run that is not a service.
It is simple. The process is.
Run gpedit.msc
Go to computer Configuration -> Windows Setting -> Scripts(Startup/shutdown)
Go to Startup properties then you will get the new windows.
Now add the program that you want to run before login.
The right way to do this is to implement a Windows service.

What I did was edit the registry:
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Create a new DWORD value (if this DWORD doesn't exist already) and
call it RestartApps with the value of 1
This now starts apps that usually startup before you log in and starts the programs in shell:startup
You can not run an exe without first loading the operating system. You can, however, run the exe without logging in first. Just add copy and paste the shortcut for the exe into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator[or other user name]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Then check msconfig to make sure your exe is checked to run on startup.
I have a QT application. When I use my created application launcher to start it, it doesn't work.
However, if I go to terminal and run the application from there, it works.
I'm wondering what their differences are.

Maybe your application launcher doesn't contain the right command and environment?
How is your launcher trying to start the program? Are any errors being reported?
It could be that the current directory is not set as expected. Or the command line parameters being sent aren't formatted correctly. Hard to say without seeing some code or an error message.
