According to requirement of application, I have developed a custom web part in Kentico 9. This web part is using with same functionality at various places but we have to use with different layout structure.
As per my understanding, we can create custom layouts for a single web part from "Layout Tab" in web part configuration. As I used same things with various Kentio built in web part like Logon form, Logon-Mini form, etc.
But while trying to create new layout for my custom web part, I am getting web part loading error and when I checked into event log it is showing following error:
The file
'/CMSVirtualFiles/WebPartLayouts/=vg=87a868ce-926c-4cb3-a441-b4f1d4310afc/TDNForgottenPassword/ForgottenPassword.ascx.cs'
does not exist.
Here, internally system looking for ".CS" file under "CMSVirtualFiles" folder, which has actually under the "CMSWebParts" directory in which I have created my user control.
Is there any specific configuration required in custom web part to implement multiple layout of it? Please help me and guide me, what am I missing or doing wrong?
Check your webpart code file property in the ascx file. You need to specifically declare the full relative path to the .cs file and not just the filename. For example:
Correct
CodeFile="~/CMSWebParts/Community/GroupRegistration.ascx.cs"
Incorrect
CodeFile="GroupRegistration.ascx.cs"
Please make sure you don't have the store virtual files in the file system setting enabled.

I have created portlets for liferay and prepare couple of pages. Now I want to create installation script, which create pages definition in customer liferay server. I know that pages export/import is possible using LAR file, but this could be done only manualy, or using remote publishing which i am not able to do.
I was searching on net and found ddm tool. Which should be able to do that. Unfortunately i'm not able to get it work as it export only web content, blogs, wikis, etc, but not pages with portlets. It is probably because one of the condition is "Every Template must be assigned to a Structure. Don't create any templates on the Liferay server which does not have a structure connected to it.
". But how can I assign page to structure ? Cant find anything.
Or is there any other option for automatic page creation, which could be used ?
In case you created a custom theme, you can easily use the "resources importer" to create an entire site via the "sitemap.json" file (define pages: choose layout, assign portlets to the columns, ...). You can also export existing content as xml from the current instance and import them via the theme. Same thing for web content structures and templates.
for more details: https://dev.liferay.com/develop/tutorials/-/knowledge_base/6-1/importing-resources-with-your-themes
Unfortunately theme is produced by another supplier, so this solution isn't suitable for me.
at the end i find working solution which consist of following steps:
create plugin hook
in hook setup upgrade process
in the upgrade process create pages with appropriate layout, friendlyUrl, etc. All these is possible to do using liferay api
Don't have enough reputation, so at least two links

Is it possible to add custom feed programmatically to Web Platform Installer? I tried adding the feed manually and found that the feed location is stored in `%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\web.preferences file. However the file seems somewhat cryptic and I would not like to modify it manually. Is there any API for that?
Update: even if this web.preferences file could be edited it is not the way to go as it is user specific file and I need system wide configuration.
Based on this link,
Sorry, there isn't a way to do that currently (for security reasons,
we don't allow an untrusted feed to be loaded without the user's
consent)
Once the feed is added via the Options dialog, it does persist between
sessions
I think we can't add custom feed without intervene from user. Maybe you can use WebpiCmd.exe
that can be configured programmatically via scripts.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer>WebpiCmd.exe /List /Feeds:http://yourcustomwpifeed.co.id/customFeed.xml
A little late, but maybe it may interest others. You can modify the file %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\webpi.preferences. Yes, it is a little cryptic, but here's my post about how to do it.
The file webpi.preferences is user-specific. If you want to set settings for all users, all I can think of is to write a bootstrapper application that first modifies webpi.preferences (using the code in the post) and then runs WebPlatformInstaller.exe.
I have created listview web part do display infopath form . When i open the forms using adminstrator login everything works fine but when i login using normal user account the fallowing error is displayed .
"Error: Access denid"
Can anyone give solution for this..
The user doesn't have rights to view the list the listview web part is reading from?
The only time I've had such errors is when a resource refferenced from a webpart (whether custom or not), is being read from the file system. e.g. DataFormWebPart reading an xslt from the file system (layouts folder) instead of the style library. I would just double check that you haven't got a file like an xslt being called from the file system. If you have, try storing it somewhere within SharePoint e.g. Style Library.
I know this is not specifically a programming question, but programmers will often have to do this work.
How do I create a website with Liferay portal - the docs are pretty light on this fundamental issue and are all for version 4.4. I am using version 5.2 and the docs don't seem to be relevant.
Do you know what the basic steps are. So far I have logged in as the bruno user and can see the 7cogs website and edit it. But I now need to create my own website (for my company) and be able to develop portlets to add to the parts of the page.
Further I notice that the docs talk about doing work in Eclipse. If our website is all static HTML, (the reason we want liferay is mainly so that we can edit content items using its content management tools), then will there be any need for Java dev, or will it all be drag n drop and clicking to get setup. Any guidance will be much appreciated.
Liferay can be used as a simple CMS, without much Java knowledge : creating, editing and positioning of web content fragments are drag'n'drop and use of the included rich text editor.
But to start using Liferay for your company, there are two main steps : a technical configuration (database, etc.), and a look'n'feel customization.
The technical part
First of all, you should get rid of the 7cogs website : this is called a hook in the Liferay wording. To do that, if you are using Tomcat for the application server, just delete the 7cogs directory as stated here.
You can now create the configuration file for your installation : it's a simple text properties file, named portal-ext.properties and placed in the webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes folder of your tomcat installation.
This file handles most of the configuration of the Liferay portal, for example :
the name of your company
if you want to display a terms of use page on first login
if you want anybody to be able to create an account on your portal
the database where the data will be stored
To do this, the properties in the portal-ext.properties override default properties found in a embedded portal.properties file located in the jar file portal-impl.jar, in the webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/lib directory. Just unzip the jar file in a temporary folder to access the portal.properties file.
A sample portal-ext.properties file :
company.default.web.id=yourcompany.com
terms.of.use.required=false
company.security.strangers=false
jdbc.default.driverClassName=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
jdbc.default.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/lportal?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF-8&useFastDateParsing=false
jdbc.default.username=root
jdbc.default.password=root
Once done, you can startup your application server. As the default admin (named test, something you can change in the portal-ext.properties file), you can access to the centralized web "control center", located in the "dock" (the strange menu labelled "welcome Test" in the upper right part of any page once logged in).
I would advise you to read the administration guide, useful for most administrative tasks.
The "branding" part
Liferay uses "Themes" to automatically decorate the portal pages (logo, navigation, portlet borders...) using images, CSS, Javascript (JQuery) and the templating language Velocity. The themes are bundled in a .war file, like a standard web application, and deployed on the fly either via the control center or by dropping the file in the deploy directory of the server.
Liferay can use several themes at the same time, one for each community (a group of pages, users and content) for example.
Creating your own theme can be done afterwards, using the "Plugins SDK".
The Wiki, forums and blogs can be very useful.
I've been trying to follow the information from:
Long URL clipped to stop breaking the page
and
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms415817.aspx
Which more or less have the same instructions. I've been copying the .dll file from the build over to the BIN directory of the Sharepoint site.
When I click the Web Part Gallery and hit new, both articles say that the web part should show up in the list.
I have tried every possible way that I can think, but my web part will not show up in that list. Is there a step that I missed somewhere? Are there permissions that I should be thinking about? How exactly does Sharepoint recognize that there is a new web part. Is it simply from having the assembly placed in the BIN directory, or is it from adding the control in the safe list of web.config?
I've added it to the safe controls list. I've tried every different combination that I could think of, but nothing has worked.
Do I need to rename the .DLL assembly to something else?
For the life of me I cannot figure this out.
I believe the minimum you need to have a WP show up in the "New" Part of the webPart Catalog, you need the dll in the "bin" folder (bin in the web dir, not the 12 hive :)) or in the GAC and a safe control entry. I would verify the Safe control entry:
Assembly = name of dll
NameSpace = well... The NameSpace where your WebPart class resides
TypeName = the name of your webPart class
You can wildcard the NameSpace and TypeName just to be sure you are getting there:
... Namespace="*" TypeName="*" ...
I would also recommend signing the assembly and putting in a PublicKeyToken=...
Also, try setting the trust level to WSS_Medium or Full.
If this doesn't work, you can try adding a .webpart file to the wpCatalog folder in your web dir.
Edit: Clarification
This has to be a mismatch between your assembly and what has been entered into web.config for the safecontrol entry.
The safecontrol entry is case sensitive - and the smallest of errors will stop is from showing on the 'New' listing of the web part gallery.
Also make sure you are editing the correct web.config! :-) Another common gotcha is that your web part class has to be public.
Hope this helps

Have you tried using the WPPackager tool from Microsoft? I haven't touched SharePoint since v2003, and I know there was a handy tool for WP deployment for that platform. I'd offer a link to it, but 1) I can't remember its name, and 2) I'm not sure if it is a valid installation route for your version of SharePoint.
Wow, you have me stumped ... I would try deploying some other 3rd party "free" web parts manually and see if you can get those to show up. This site has a few:
http://www.sharepointblogs.com/mkruger/archive/2007/06/26/free-sharepoint-web-parts-3rd-party.aspx
Have you made sure that you set: [assembly: AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers]
in your AssemblyInfo file?
I am amazed no one else has chimed in on this. I guess next step would be to try to deploy it as a feature/solution.
Is this a simple hello world wp or are you doing something more?
To be honest, I am beginning to believe that it is your wss/moss configuration/settings that is hampering your efforts at the moment. Have you ever successfully deployed a WP to your farm? ... Is this a VPC dev farm or production?
I've been creating a few web parts over the past 2 weeks, but I have not used the "New Web Parts" section of the Web Part Gallery. Instead, I create a .dwp file (e.g. MyWebPart.dwp), which is more or less an XML file describing the web part, and I manually import it into the gallery.
The format for my .dwp files generally looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<WebPart xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v2" >
<Title>My Sample Web Part</Title>
<Description>This web part displays "Hello World" on the page.</Description>
<Assembly>My.Assembly, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3ed03eac7f647a61</Assembly>
<TypeName>My.Assembly.MyWebPartClassName</TypeName>
<!-- Specify initial values for any additional base class or custom properties here. -->
</WebPart>
This of course assumes that you've added this assembly as a "Safe Control". After you compile your assembly and move it into the bin/GAC for your SharePoint machine, go back to the web part gallery, click "Upload", and upload your .dwp file. You'll have to specify a few properties after uploading it.
Assuming your web part exists in your .dll, then you should see it added to the gallery list, and you can preview it or add it to a page at that point.
