Image content changed when Resized - jpeg

This is a coding question I believe as i'm sure some of the photo content is changed. I have seen some images before which basically changed to a different image when downloaded or resized.
I want to know how this is achieved, anyone got any idea?

How to restore whole image from cropped jpg file?

I have jpg file which is cropped for sure from original file.
In osx system I can see small thumbnail preview with whole image.
My question is: is jpg format allow to store whole image, and coordinates that describe how it should be cropped when you open file in any program?
Or is this small thumbnail somehow saved in this file as second resource?
What software do I need to check this? What keywords should I look in order to understand that better?

Image map with links to other tabs

I Have an image for a homepage screen. The top part of the image when clicked should lead to the second tab, the left hand side of the image when clicked goes to the third tab and so on.
Basically geotagging an image , so that i can make areas of the image clickable leading to different tabs
I tried implementing using a map chart where i added an image layer, and added this image. Some solutions asked me to add a marker layer with x,y coordinates but I'm unsure on how to proceed on my image
Kindly help with any alternative solution
it sounds like you want an image map. "geo tagging" is when geographic info like latitude and longitude are added to an image.
your best bet is to use a text area with a table filled with image-type action controls. if you have Photoshop, you can use a technique called Image Slicing to prepare your images.
FYI, this is probably not a simple task, especially if you don't know much about HTML. you may want to consider a different navigation scheme.
if you update your question with more detail about the end result you are trying to achieve, maybe someone can share a more fitting solution. http://mywiki.wooledge.org/XyProblem

Coloured textures for POIs

I was trying to use a coloured texture (PNG 24/RGB) for a POI (bicycle_parking) and it was not being rendered. It was added properly as a texture, it just won't be rendered on the POI.
After some testing I came to believe that POIs only accept grayscale textures that can later be filled up with a color. Is this right?
I also found out that the icon needs to be of a specific size (I got it working only at 32x32 pixels and 512x512, but the scaling did not make it look good). Is there any information regarding this?
Now I have a grayscale icon (mostly white) but the fill color does not change the white as expected. This is as far as I got..
Here's a set of icons similar to the ones I need to render into POIs
How could I achieve adding this type of icons as the texture of a POI? Workarounds/hacks are welcome as well :)
Thanks!
The texture of the Poi must have a size that is a power of 2 and goes from 32x32 up until 512x512. Also make sure that the colour code of that image is RGB anything else wont work. For the best visual result you have to create 3 sets of pngs for different screen densities, for example see heatmap_legend.png then look at heatmap_legend#2x.png and heatmap_legend#3x.png, you can find them in the "common" folder.
So turns out that the color wasn't a problem after all. It was quite tricky to get one image working, but once I had the image working, adding color to it and saving the PNG worked just fine.
The problem with the image size I experienced is still happening. You need to export it in 32x32, 64x64 or 96x96 in order to StyleEditor not to crash when opening the file.

What's the font name from image

I need to know the name of the font used in the freelancer.com logo? I tried to find out using WhatTheFont but without success.
I really need this font name.
Thanks to everybody.
WhatTheFont has a forum where you can post a graphic containing the font in question and (with luck) get responses from actual people who may be able to identify it.

How to make thumbnail images for custom Liferay Layouts?

How to make thumbnail images for custom Liferay Layouts? If anyone has done it using any open-source software, please help!
In Liferay 6.1 source folder /liferay-portal-src-6.1.0-ce-ga1/portal-web/docroot/layouttpl there is a zip file called thumbnails.zip which in turn contains thumbnails.psd, which contains thumbnail images for all the bundled layout templates. As for an open-source image image editing software, there is Gimp. Unfortunately, I didn't have much luck opening the mentioned file with it - the glossy overlay lost it alpha value and the large background rectangles seemingly lost their gradients and are all solidly colored. You could try Paint.net as well, which also stands in high regard among free image editing software.
The latest version of liferay docs containing any mention of layout templates thumbnails are for Liferay 6.0 series and you can find it here. There is also an empty png layout thumbnail template with proper background gradient, but you would have to make your own gloss over the little light rectangles as well as make the corners round...
All in all, you could also try to make the thumbnails from scratch, give them a more unique look. The image from Liferay docs should give you the idea of what it should like to still look nice next to bundled layouts' thumbnails. I'd just suggest to try and use vector image editing software. The bundled thumbnails all look simple enough to draw them with vectors, which would give you more flexibility and ability to change your mind anytime about details without having to draw everything all over again.
And that's for a 121x121 px image...
