Why Cognos Metric studio is missing from IBM Cognos-10? - cognos

I am using IBM Cognos 10 trial version and I am new to it. Here I created different types of reports. Recently I came to know that we can also create scorecard and strategy maps using Cognos Metric studio. Till now I just used Cognos Report studio and Cognos Framework manager. I have googled about how to open Cognos Metric studio but in every article I found that in Cognos Welcome page we can find the Metric studio, but in my Cognos welcome page there is no such kind of thing. See the following diagram.
I want to know how we can open Cognos Metric studio in IBM Cognos 10 trial version?
I have some doubts here, Is Cognos trial version they don't provide any Metric studio or we have to download it and configure it to the Cognos separately.
Or
Is the installation process which I followed is Wrong?
My another doubt is, Cognos Framework manager rpd file is enough to Scorecard type of things or we have to use Metric designer for this, anyhow I did not have Metric designer as well......
Can we do all things which we can do in Cognos Metric studio also using Report studio, if yes can anyone suggest me how to do scorecards in Cognos Report studio.

I don't know about trial version, but normal Metric Studio is a separate distribution.

There may be possibly two reasons for it that I know;
The Profile assigned to your User ID may not contain these
rights/permissions.
Can you login using Internet Explorer or Mozilla instead and see if it appears ? Sometimes the latest versions of Browser do not render due to some bugs in Cognos Connection code.

SSRS Report Stuck On Loading After SQL Server Upgrade From Standard To Enterprise

We updated our SQL Server from Standard to Enterprise. All my solutions were originally built in Visual Studio 17 (SSTD) and deployed as VS 8, 12, 14. I updated one of my reports and deployed it as VS16. The report worked at first, then became really laggy. All other reports were working fine. I attempted to open the solution using Blend, but it indicated it was incompatible. When I attempted to reopen the solution using VS 17 (SSDT), it indicated the same error (incompatible). Now I am unable to open any solution using VS 17 (SSDT) nor Blend. They all indicate that they are incompatible. I noticed that the Microsoft Reporting Services Projects extension (Ver 2.5.9) was disabled. I re-enabled it, but it did not resolve the issue. Not sure what to try next...…..
Update: After trying a multitude of possible solutions that worked for others, this was a really simple fix (which I found by accident). If anyone receives an 'incompatibility', I would definitely suggest this, prior to any other attempt.
I opened VS 17 (SSDT) and attempted to load my solution.
In the Solution Explorer, the Solution is listed with (incompatible) in brackets.
Right Click on the Solution Name and look for the 'Resolve Issues' option.
That was it. Resolved!
Hope this helps anyone who receives the same issue.

visual studio express 2012 version control

I have been sent a working project from a coworker to start learning Visual Studio. The project is under version control, however I don't want to have access to final customer product. So when I try to open the solution file I first get a message that the project is under source control:
"Team Foundation Server Version Control
The solution you are opening is bound to source control on the following Team foundation Serer:
http:// . Would you like to contact this server to try to enable source control integration?"
[yes] [no] [help]
I press no, then I get an error:
"The solution appears to be under source control, but its binding information cannot be found. Because it is not possible to recover the missing information automatically, the projects whose bindings are missing will be treated as not under source control."
[ok] [help]
I proceed and press ok, and another message pops up:
"projectname\projectname.tsproj: The application which this project type is based on was not found. Please try this link for further information: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?prd=12395&pver=11&sbp=ProjectTypeDeprecated&plcid=0x409&clcid=0x409&ar=MSDN&sar=ProjectCompatibility&o1=B1E792BE-AA5F-4E3C-8C82-674BF9C0715B"
My coworker tells me he sent the whole project, so I can't figure out why I cant get visual studio to open it. I am new to visual studio, but I have some programming experience.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you
It is doubtful that version control has something to do with your problem. There are two possibilities I could think of:
Your coworker uses full version of VS2012 and you are now having problems due to the fact that Visual Studio Express comes in two main flavours - Web and Desktop. It is unable to load Web(or Desktop) project because it just does not have any tools to work with it. Ask your coworker whether they mix web and desktop in their solutions. If it is so you should either use full VS or be given a reduced set of projects.
Nearly the same - your coworker uses some very old or very new version of particular project type (something like ASP.NET MVC that(as I remember) has different project type for each version). Again ask your coworker if it is so. In this case you will just have to install the needed templates and SDKs.
P.S. I was unable to open your link - it opens microsoft.com/default(maybe due to some regional problems). Search by key words brought to me similar problem for VS2010 http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/728847/could-not-open-vs2010-solution-with-mvc-project - may be it could help you more specifically.

Crystal Reports for VS2012 – free or not?

Since Visual Studio 2010 Crystal Reports are no longer part of Visual Studio.
I'm using Visual Studio 2012 Professional and despite checking various sources I cannot reliably determine whether I can
freely download and use Crystal Reports Developer version for development of commercial applications in Visual Studio 2012
freely distribute and install Crystal Reports Runtime for running apps (developed above) at clients
In other words, do I need to purchase a license or not? Do clients need purchase their licenses, too?
(Besides your answer, providing link to sources of information will be appreciated.)
FYI - For obtaining Crystal Reports, there is a great resource containing all versions and package types, but still leaving me without the answer.
Yes, basic solutions, that allow a developer to generate and deploy reports, are free.
Advanced solutions, that allow end user to create, edit and share reports are not free.
It is free the IDE to be used with Visual Studio; stand alone full IDE is not free
Crystal Reports Runtime for running apps is free. SAP Crystal Server is not free.
EDIT
Look at this article: How do you spell confusion; CR for VS, Crystal 2011, BI 4.x and the .NET SDKs
And "Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010" (CRVS2010) is born. Note that this version, follows in the footsteps of CR 10.5; it only works in the VS 2010 IDE. E.g.; it is not a stand alone executable like CR XI R2 or CR 2008. CRVS 2010 has both 32 bit and 64 bit runtime. And it has the Crystal Reports SDK for .NET as well as the InProc RAS SDK. And it's FREE(!).
It seems that Crystal Reports licensing depends on many factors. There is a blog from an SAP employee: "SAP Crystal Licensing for Humans" which puts the information together and covers most cases. The entire simplified licensing whitepaper referred there has 20 pages. Currently the document is up-to-date also for 2013 releases.
Based on the above document (esp. page 4) the answer is that
SAP Crystal Reports for Visual Studio is free if Crystal Reports is used
internally in company (external users can also access, but no access fee can be charged to them)
-or-
with runtime engine deployed only on client machines, i.e. all report processing is done locally on client machine. Also no parallel access to such a client runtime is allowed (also including Citrix or Remote Desktop usage).
For additional information, please check that document.
Please see this post and the licensing information from SAP here to answer your questions.
Basically the answer to both questions is "Yes".
You can download the developer version here.

TFS 2012-based reports and settings open in separate browser window instead of tab in VS 2012 IDE

In the process of switching my folks over to TFS 2012, I was evaluating the team project reports I moved over. When I double-clicked on a report to open it, instead of seeing it in a tab within my VS 2012 IDE, it opens in a separate web browser window.
This behavior exhibits in migrated team projects (from 2010 to 2012), as well as newly created team projects. I'm inclined to think it's a configuration issue missed on my part, but I can't seem to nail it down.
[Migration details: upgrade performed by detaching 2010 collection, reattaching to running instance of TFS2012 on new hardware. ReportServer database was moved separately. Hardware is all WinSrv2008R2, SQL2012 Standard.]
UPDATE: altered title as this is happening to any/all settings and controls, as well, for any given team project (Security, Group Membership, Work Item Areas, etc). Anything that is URL-based. So, at least it's misbehaving consistently.
If I'm understanding you correctly, this is the expected behavior for TFS 2012. All of the controls you mentioned are part of Web Access and should be viewed/altered in a browser and not VS.

Dynamics 2011 CRM - Visual Studio Developer Tools / Org Mismatch

I'm creating a CRM 2011 plug-in. I created it with the Visual Studio Solution Template for Dynamics 2011, and authored it as a CRM 2011 Plug-In Library. After completing the iniital implementation and testing in CRM, I now need to associate the plugin with a different Entity / Attribute / SDK Message. So...I re-opened VS to try to create another plug-in or to otherwise edit it this one.
Oddly, I get a WCF Error from Visual Studio's IDE when I re-start an existing SLN that used to work. Specifically, I get the error when I start the CRM Explorer in VS. The error is pretty generic -
The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error. etc .etc.
The CRM Explorer tree shows 0 Entities and 0 Option Sets after the error, though the other tree nodes seem to have the correct content. It feels to me that something in my Org or CRM Server has broken the VS integration, but don't have any idea what that might have been. I mean I hadn't made any changes to the Org at all in a week or so (though I did apply August Windows Updates!). I'm on Cum Update 8 at the moment.
When I delete the hidden blah.SUO and the blah.docstates.suo files, and restart VS ... the CRM Explorer prompts for my server / credentials / Org as expected for the initial start. However, I get the above WCF error again and the CRM Explorer does not populate correctly following this "reset". I have also tried uninstalling the CRM Developer Toolkit without luck.
Anyone seen this behavior before, or have any suggestions?
I have seen something like that happen when the WCF endpoints were re-configured (CRM Deployment Manager). You can check to see what the endpoints are in the Settings - Customizations - Developer Resources
I had a similar issue: trying to connect to CRM Server through development toolkit add-in to VS.
Resolution: add the user to the CRM Organisation and assign role "System Administrator".
