Wipe exif metadata - jpeg

I need to remove almost all tags from images metadata. I want to keep only a fixed subset of tags.
I'm searching for a good lib that support both reading and writing of JPG.
( I prefer to use Java as it's portable, but I can also use C/C++ if needed)

Have you tried the ever comprehensive ImageMagick library that comes with interfaces in Java, C, C++, and a dozen other languages? In particular look at mogrify tool, which can accomplish what you want:
mogrify -strip image.jpg

How to extract metadata and structure from Fireworks PNG files for conversion?

Since Adobe has declared Fireworks dead, it is apparent that many of us are potentially locked into Fireworks in terms of the proprietary layered PNG format that they have used. I have been hunting for options to extract / convert my documents over to either PSD's or some other layered SVG structure (perhaps similar to what Sketch does on OS X).
Anyone have any ideas for extracting the contents of Fireworks' PNGs programmatically? So far I haven't seen any libraries to make this feasible and really no discussion of how the metadata is structured in a Fireworks PNG in a format that would help to reverse engineer this format for proper conversion and extraction.

Retrieve the pixel values of an image with Haskell

Is there a way or a library available that can load an image (jpeg, png, etc) and assign the pixel values of that image into a list or matrix? I'd like to do some experiments with image and pattern recognition.
A little nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.
You can use JuicyPixels, a native Haskell library for image loading. This is rather easy to convert to REPA as well (manually or with JuicyPixesl-repa).
I've used the repa-devil package for this in the past. It lets you work with a bunch of formats using Developer's Image Library (DevIL). You can read and write all the formats you are likely to care about.
The actual image data is given as a Repa array. This is a great library for array operations and makes it very easy to write parallel code.

Here is a new Haskell Image Processing library, which uses JuicyPixels for encoding, provides interface for you to read and write all of the supported formats in a very easy manner and manipulate them in any way you can imagine. Just as a simple example on how easy it is:
>>> img <- readImageRGB "image.jpg"
>>> writeImage "image90.png" $ rotate90 img
Above will read a JPG image in RGB color space, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise and save it as a PNG image.
Oh yeah, it also can use Repa, so you will get parallel processing for free as well.
GTK supports loading and saving JPEG and PNG. [AFAIK, no other formats though.] There is a Haskell binding named Gtk2hs. It supports vector graphics very well, but bitmap graphics, while supported, isn't especially easy to figure out. So I wrote AC-EasyRaster-GTK, which wraps GTK in a more friendly interface. (It still needs Gtk2hs though.) The only real down-side is that Gtk2h is a bit fiddly to set up on Windows. (And it's arguably overkill to install an entire GUI toolkit just to load and save image files.)
I gather the "GD" library supports writing several image formats, and is quite small and simple. I believe Hackage has Haskell bindings for GD as well. I haven't tried this personally.
There is a file format called PPM which is deliberately designed to be ridiculously easy to implement (it's a tiny header and then an array of pixels), and consequently there's at least a dozen packages on Hackage which implement it (including my own AC-PPM). There are also lots of programs out there which can display and/or convert images in this format.

SVG to PDF on a shared linux server

I have a website which uses SVG for an interactive client side thingamabob. I would like to provide the option to download a PDF of the finished output. I can pass the final SVG output back to the server, where I want to convert to PDF, then return it to the client for download.
This would need to work on a headless shared linux server, where installation or compilation is either an enormous pain, or impossible. The website is PHP, so the ideal solution would be PHP, or use software that's easily installed on a shared webserver. Python, perl and ruby are available, along with the usual things you might expect on a linux box. Solutions that involve cairo, scripting inkscape, or installation more complex than 'FTP it up' are probably out. Spending large amounts of money are also out, naturally. As this is a shared server, memory and/or CPU hungry solutions are also out, as they will tend to get killed; this more or less rules out Batik.
The nearest that I've got so far is this XSL transform which I can drive from PHP and then squirt the resulting postscript through ps2pdf (which is already installed). The only problem with this is that it doesn't support SVG paths - if it did, it would be perfect.
There are a bunch or related questions on StackOverflow, all of which I've read through, but they all assume that you can either install stuff, spend money, or both.
Does anyone have an off-the-shelf solution to this, or should I just spend some downtime trying to add paths support to that XSL transform?

I stumbled across TCPDF today which would have been perfect for this, had I known about it at the time. It's just a collection of pure PHP classes, no external dependencies for most things.
It can build PDF's from scratch and you can include pretty much anything you want in there, including SVG (amongst many, many other things), as shown in these examples:

You can use Apache FOP's free Batik SVG toolkit which has a transcoder api to transform SVG to PDF.

You will need to write a tiny bit of java. There are code examples here – note you will need to set the transcoder to org.apache.fop.svg.PDFTranscoder instead of Java.
You should be able to do this without installing anything on your machine – just drag the jars on there and run a script. I quote:
All other libraries needed by Batik are included in the distribution. As a consequence the Batik archive is quite big, but after you have downloaded it, you will not need anything else.
have you looked at imagemagick? I suspect you also need ghostscript to complete the loop, which might make installation difficulty and performance a problem.
I'd suggest giving princexml a try, they provide various addons (including one for PHP) and can output PDF from SVG/HTML/XML.

Writing ID3v2 Tag parsing code, need Good examples to test

I am writing software to parse ID3v2 tags in Java. I need to find some files with good examples of the tag with lots of different frames. Ideally the tags will contain an embedded picture because that is what is kicking my butt right now.
Does anyone know where I can find some good free (legal) ID3v2 tagged files (ID3v2.2 and ID3v2.3)?
You can create the example files with a tagger by yourself. I'm the author of the Windows freeware tagger Mp3tag which is able to write ID3v2.3 (UTF-16 and ISO-8859-1) and ID3v2.4 tags in UTF-8 (both along with APIC frames). You can find a list of supported frames here.
To create ID3v2.2 tags, I think the only program out there is iTunes which interpretes the ID3 spec in it's very own way and writes numerous iTunes specific frames that are not in the spec.
This maybe be obvious and not what you are seeking, but what about ripping some of your legally obtained CDs and editing them using iTunes? iTunes would also allow you to add embedded picture. There are of course many open source programs that will also do this.

How to programmatically create videos?

Is there a freely available library to create a MPEG (or any other simple video format) out of an image sequence ?
It must run on Linux too, and ideally have Python bindings.
I know there's mencoder (part of the mplayer project), and ffmpeg, which both can do this.
ffmpeg is a great (open source) program for building all kinds of video, and converting one type of video (a sequence of images in this case) into other types of video.
Usually it is utilized from the command line, but that is really just a wrapper around its internal libraries. It is expressly available to be used from within another program.
There are also python bindings that wrap the c api, though this particular project doesn't seem to be getting the best support (there are probably other projects out there doing the same thing).
There's also this link where someone has used ffmpeg to do something similar to what you're looking for.
GStreamer is a popular choice. It's a full multimedia framework much like DirectShow or QuickTime, has the advantage of having legally licensed codecs available, and has excellent Python bindings.
in c++ OpenCV (open source Computer Vision library from Intel) let you create an AVI file and just push frames inside...
but it's like shooting with a cannon to a fly.
Not a library, but mplayer has the ability to encode JPEG sequences to any kind of format. It runs on Linux, Windows, BSD and other platforms and you can write a python script if you want to use it with python.
ffmpeg has an API and also python bindings, seems to be the way to go !
