Wamp Server with windows 8.1 - windows-8.1

I am running WAMP server on windows 8.1 . I have installed wamp on D: Drive whereas other windows and system files are under C: Drive. I want to reset my PC. Does this effects my WAMP server? Do i have to install WAMP again?
Note : I just want to reset my operating system not re install operating system.

No you wouldn't, misread question.

As long as Your Windows is installed on the C: drive a resetting Windows will not damage WAMPServer on the D: drive.
However when you get windows reset it might not know about the WAMPManager icon on the desktop or the Apache and MySQL services.
All you need to do is this :-
Make a new shortcut of D:\wamp\wampmanager.exe on your desktop.
Run Wampmanager just like normal, the icon will stay RED.
Now do
left click wampmanager -> Apache -> Service -> Install Service
left click wampmanager -> MySQL -> Service -> Install Service
Now WAMPServer should be properly instaled again, just as it was before.
So do a
left click wampmanager -> Restart All Services
and the icon should go GREEN

Installing IIS with Advanced Installer

We have an installer built with Advanced Installer. We are installing IIS from the Windows Feature Bundle. Weird thing is when we run the installer on a fresh Virtual Machine, it works and we can see IIS. However, when client runs it on their computer (they have domain computer) they cannot start the IIS. In fact IIS doesn't show up on the menu. Note: the installer did NOT show any error message. When we looked at the windows features it looks like the IIS should have installed, but can't find it in the menu:
Moreover, we have compared the two logs of successful and unsuccessful installation, and surprisingly there were no significant difference that might indicate of any kind of error for the IIS installation.
Here's a screenshot of our advanced installer configuration:
Any idea what is going wrong? Or how can we even look for the problem?
You can check whether IIS is installed in the system through the command, press "Win + R" → enter "inetmgr" → OK, if the IIS manager window appears, it means it is installed, otherwise it is not installed.

Effiecient Windows to Linux desktop sharing solution that support multiple screens

I am looking for an efficient Windows to Linux desktop sharing software that support multiple screen.
As of now my team develops (mustly Scala) code on our local windows machines (laptops).
For various reasons the data we are working on can't usually be copied to our local machines.
Currently we quite frequently need to exports our code/jars to a different environment that is also connected to an Hadoop cluster containing the data.
We are looking for a desktop sharing solution that will enable us to develop and execute code on remote, strong, stable Linux machines, that are connected via broadband connection to our data clusters.
Its crucial for us that the solution above will be able to run remote GUI based developing tools such as IntelliJ on the Linux machines and display them on our local Windows machine multiple screens smoothly.
Any recommendation?
Thanks in advance,
Mishael
One of the options is to use Cygwin - this will allow you to run UI applications from a remote server on your Windows environment
In order to that you should do the following:
A. On Windows side:
Download and install Cygwin/X from : http://x.cygwin.com/
In the Cygwin/X installer make sure the following packages are chosen:
xorg-server (required, the Cygwin/X X Server)
xinit (required, scripts for starting the X server: xinit, startx,
startwin)
X-start-menu-icons (optional, adds icons for X Clients to the Start menu)
xorg-docs (optional, man pages)
font-bh-ttf
font-bitstream-vera-ttf
Setup X Launcher
Create a new shortcut on your desktop which points to the following (assume your cygwin was installed in c:\software):
C:\software\cygwin\bin\run.exe C:\software\cygwin\bin\XWin.exe -multiwindow -clipboard -ac
Double click the shortcut you just created :) this will start small icon on the left side of windows taskbar.
B. On Linux side
login to your remote server for the same windows machine (use any terminal - e.g Putty)
set the DISPLAY parameter your server:
export DISPLAY=<windows-host-name>:0.0
now you can run any application that requires GUI and it will open up on your windows machine
:)

Where is IIS on Windows Server 2012 Essentials

I just got Windows Server 2012 Essentials installed and I would like to set up my dev web projects in IIS on the server. But I can't seem to find how to get to it? When I remote to the machine with my admin account all I seem to have access to is the dashboard.
Can anyone tell me what to do?
Essentials comes with IIS preinstalled, so unless you uninstalled it for some reason, its there already.
I'm assuming you want to get to the IIS 8 admin tool.
In order to get there
press the start button (on your keyboard)
click on the Administrative Tools tile
From there scroll down to IIS Manager and double click
OR
Hold down the windows key and press the R key (win+r)
then type in inetmgr
Apparently is not that simple on ws2012 as I thought, please try following this guide:
http://www.iis.net/learn/get-started/whats-new-in-iis-8/installing-iis-8-on-windows-server-2012
I don't think it's whether he has it installed or not, it's that they changed how you GET to it. IIS manager USED to be accessible from Server Manager, but it is no longer so. In 2008 (and earlier, but I don't have a box readily available) from Server Manager, expand Roles, then Web Server. If you click "web Server" You see a "dashboard", displaying events, Services, Best Practices, Etc. WITHIN that, you can click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and see the sites, and manage and configure the sites on the machine.
In 2012, you can ONLY see that dashboard information, events, service status, best practice, etc. There's no way to navigate into IIS and manage the sites and applications. Up in the top-right corner, the menu "Tools" (Between "Manage" and "View") contains IIS Manager.
I'd LOOOOOVE to see a transcript of the design session where this change was suggested. Mostly just to get the attendance, and then hunt them all down.
Make sure that the IIS Management Console is enabled through via Control Panel -> Programs and Features. From Server Manager, click Add roles and features and follow the prompts.
You can find the inetmgr.exe at the below location:
C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv
Or you can run it from the run window
Win + R -> inetmgr -> Enter

What is the default location of inetmgr.exe of IIS in Windows 7, as none of my Windows searches are working; Any Alternative to access it?

Hi I want to acces, open "inetmgr.exe" on my Windows 7 machine. But none of the searches are working. ( Start Menu --> Search Program and Files NOR Search in My Computer).
I somehow want to access inetmgr.exe of IIS(InternetInformation Services).
So can anyone kindly let me know the
default location of inetmgr.exe or any
DOS command to access it. I even
tried typing "inetmgr.exe" in command
prompt. But not working. So PLz
somehow I need to access inetmgr.exe.
Thanks in advance.
It should be available in following location:
C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\InetMgr.exe
But when you goto start menu and type inetmgr.exe it should be visible in the list. If not then something wrong with your installation or that file has been deleted.
At first check IIS is installed or not.
For XP
Open Control Panel
Add-Remove Windows Components.
For Windows 7 / Windows Server 2012
Open Control Panel
Programs and Features
Turn Windows features on or off.
I had the same issue. Go into Control Panel -> Programs-> Turn Windows features on or off.
Click on features for Internet Information Services. Specifically, Web Management Tools and Wold Wide Web Services.
For Web Management Tools
->IIS 6 Management Compatibility
->IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility. (or any other features you think you may need)
I had the same problem on Windows Server 2016 with it not wanting to search. IIS Manager (with our normal websites) was showing in the Start menu but IIS 6 Manager was not (where the SMTP Virtual Server settings are located).
Luckily you can launch it from within Server Manager:
Yes, I installed IIS and still couldn't find InetMgr.exe until I went back to
Turn Windows features on or off
and then checked
Internet Information Services
Web Management Tools
IIS Management Console

Check whether IIS is installed or not?

I am trying to create a Local IIS Website using ASP.NET.
When I click on New -----> Website and select the type as HTTP and from the dialog box if I select the option as LOCAL IIS WEBSITE I am getting a message as "IIS not installed on this computer"
When I checked in the Control Panel---->Add or remove programs ---->Add or remove windows components. The Option Internet Information Service is already checked marked.
But when I click on the Control Panel ---> Administrative Tools, I dont find the option as Internet Information Service.
I also have the root directory as C:\Inetpub\WWWRoot.
And when I give the following command in the VS command Prompt
aspnet_regiis.exe -i
It is giving the message as finished installing ASP.NET
Can any one help me in identifying whether IIS is installed in my system or not?
Please help me out!
go to Start->Run type inetmgr and press OK. If you get an IIS configuration screen. It is installed, otherwise it isn't.
You can also check ControlPanel->Add Remove Programs, Click Add Remove Windows Components and look for IIS in the list of installed components.
EDIT
To Reinstall IIS.
Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs -> Click Add Remove Windows Components
Uncheck IIS box
Click next and follow prompts to UnInstall IIS.
Insert your windows disc into the appropriate drive.
Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs -> Click Add Remove Windows Components
Check IIS box
Click next and follow prompts to Install IIS.
For Windows 7:
Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off > to turn on IIS click on Check box.
Check
Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services --> IIS Admin
For reinstalling
How to remove and reinstall IIS 5.0, 5.1 and 6.0
In the menu, go to RUN > services.msc and hit enter to get the services window and check for the IIS ADMIN service. If it is not present, then reinstall IIS using your windows CD.
The quickest way to check is just to write "inetmgr" at run (By pressing Win + R) as a command, if a manager window is appeared then it's installed otherwise it isn't.
A lot of answers here describe how to manually check if IIS is installed.
One (of many) programmatic ways is to check if the file
C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe
exists, and maybe has a certain minimum version (such as 10.0.0.0 for IIS version 10).
IIS can be installed programmatically using DISM. You can also use DISM to check if IIS is installed, which may be "more correct", but is also more difficult to do than just checking for a file.
WARNING: If possible, do not hard-code the path C:\Windows\System32, especially not within a 32-bit process or installer, as it can be virtualized and mapped to C:\Windows\SysWOW64, which is NOT where IIS is installed (assuming a 64-bit OS). Depending on where you are implementing your check (installer prerequisites, PowerShell, native code, etc.), there are different ways to explicitly access the 64-bit/native system folder.
Background: w3wp.exe is the worker process image of IIS, so if IIS is installed with minimal features, then this file can be expected to exist.
As for version numbers, you can expect the following minimum versions of IIS to be installed in (source):
IIS 10 (>= 10.0.0.0) in Windows Server 2016 or higher and Windows 10 or higher
IIS 8.5 (>= 8.5.0.0) in Windows Server 2012 R2 or higher and Windows 8.1 or higher
http://localhost:80 (specify port configured)
OR
http://localhost (default port)
type above line in your browser you realize IIS installed or not
I simple gave below in all my browsers. I got image IIS7
http://localhost/
Refer this a step by step approach:
http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/365704/Install-IIS-on-Windows
For many users you have to enable the windows feature on then check IIS and then go with RUN followed by searching for inetmgr.
I needed to do this on a server over the CLI, and was able to do so in using powershell wit the following command:
Get-ItemProperty -Path registry::HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\ | Select-Object
