GSA: index the e-commerce sites and display the results in sort by price? - meta-tags

We want to index few public e-commerce sites. When our customers search any one of the product the results, should display sort by pricing from all indexed e-commerce sites.
From My Understanding: The public e-commerce sites have different meta tag for pricing i cannot even consolidate into one meta tag.
Is there possible to Feed via XML, but don't have much idea inside how to achieve? we don't have db access to parse only required data
Via Entity recognition how i can able to index the price as a meta tag ?
Could u please advice us, whether it is achievable or not? If yes, which one is the best solution and refer document for this.

Ignoring the sorting issue and just concentrating on normalising the price metadata problem. You need a way to read the price from whatever metadata field it's in and create a new metadata field with a common name and the same value.
There are a few ways to do this but the simplest are probably:
Generate a Meta-and-url feed for each document and add in the normalised metadata
Crawl via a proxy that can add a X-GSA-External-Metadata header in containing the normalised metadata

Kentico 12 Azure Search

I'm trying to implement Azure Search on Kentico 12. Following the article below.

However, I have multiple indexes defined on the smart search not just a single index code name that I can hard code and also cannot aford to hard code index fields. Is there any tutorial out there that I can follow?
It sounds as if you're referring to building an Azure Search web part, is this correct. If so, make a property in your web part which allows you to select the code name from a list in the database. Secondly, regarding field names, you should be using generic field names like DocumentName, NodeAliaspath, etc. Although if you have very specific search results that need to be displayed, simply put in a switch statement to get the field names based on a class name.

SharePoint Document Library Column Advice Needed for a Multiple Value Field

I created a basic OOTB document library to store Word and PDF files. I have been tasked to also create a few columns to store some basic metadata about the uploaded documents, for example: AuthorFirstName, AuthorLastName, and a column that lists "topics" discussed in the document.
While I am generally familiar with most Document Library settings, and creating columns, I am seeking information on what column datatype might work best for "topics". In most situations, one uploaded document would have 1-4 topics.
I would rather the datatype not be a single line of text datatype, as I would rather not ask the user to separate the different values (topics) using a delimiter such as a comma or semicolon. I would like to offer users the option to sort or filter in the SharePoint views.
There also seem to be some limitations with the Choice datatype.
While Choice fields seem to support Fill-In Values, when a choice is not pre-populated, they only seem to allow 1 fill-in. I would like the user to able to use a repeating-table-like interface to add a topic, and click an "add" button, and repeat, and so on.
I think in your scenario the best approach would be using managed metadata feature (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-help/introduction-to-managed-metadata-HA102832521.aspx). It allows you to sort/filter library items, allows users to add new terms into metadata storage, etc.
Using a Lookup field to a custom List is something worth considering. The main advantage is that your data choices are stored separately from the main list and are easier to track and manage. The disadvantage is that you cannot easily have the user add a fill-in option as you desire. You would have to have a link from the library or the upload form to the options list where they would enter a new option separately from tagging it on the document.
Managed metadata is certainly an option as well, but it requires more overhead and sorting/filtering on that is a little trickier. Using a Lookup column is simple, although it does not meet all of your needs.

Can data in Solr be extended with manually defined meta data?

I have several documents in a solr collection that I want to be able to search through. Most of the data comes from web sites I can easily crawl, however, I need to add some attributes manually to because I have to add these attributes manually.
So as an example I get the following info from a site (all attributes returned from crawled site):
Name: Porsche Boxter
Year: 1996
...
I want to add additional fields through a web interface (info not present on crawled sites):
Cool: yes
foo: bar
My questions:
Does it make sense at all to store additional information along the indexed data within Solr (inside the documents) or would a best practice only have all crawled data in Solr and merge with an external managed database during query time? To me it makes more sense to have all my data that is eventually queried in Solr as some of the manually added attributed are required search criteria (e.g. look only for cool cars from the 90s).
Is it possible to use Solr to store additional information about indexed documents? I know the entire schema in advance, perhaps this is useful?
If I store my data exclusively in Solr, how can I ensure that during the next crawl the manually added data is not overwritten? Would partial update be required?
Since I am new to Solr it would also be very helpful if someone could simply manage what to look for in the documentation that describes my use case.
That depends on how often the external data changes. The more often, the less meaningful. Generally it is a good idea to store such data along the index data, because you get them without an additional database query.
Yes. Use indexed:falseand stored:true. If you knew not know all of such fields in advance you could use a dynamicField like <dynamicField name="*_stored" type="string" indexed="false" stored="true" />.
Yes. You have to use partial update. This is no problem in your case, because the fields not updated have stored:true.

Invalid Magento Search result

Searching Magento with fulltext search engine and like method , it will store results in catalogsearch_fulltext table in "data_index" field where it stores value in the format like
each searchable attribute is separated with |.
e.g
3003|Enabled|None||Product name|1.99|yellow|0
here it store sku,status,tax class, product name , price ,color etc etc
It stores all searchable attribute value.
Now the issue is for Configurable product , it will also store the associated products name ,price ,status in the same field like
3003|Enabled|Enabled|Enabled|Enabled|None|None|None|None|Product name|Product name|associted Product name1|associted Product name2|associted Product name3|1.99|2.00|2.99|3.99|yellow|black|yellow|green|0|0|0|0
So what happen is if i search for any word from associated product, it will also list the main configurable product as it has the word in its "data_index" field.
Need some suggestion how can i avoid associated products being included in data_index, So that i can have perfect search result.

We are looking into our search as well and it has been surprising to see the inefficiencies included in the fulltext table. We have some configurable products as well that have MANY variations and their population in the fulltext search is downright horrendous.
As for solutions, I can only offer my approach to fix the problem (not completed: but rather in the process).
I am extending Magento to include an event listener to the process of indexing the products (Because catalog search indexing is when the fulltext database is populated). Once that process occurs, I am writing my own module to remove duplicate entries from the associated products and also to add the functionality of adding additional search keyword terms as populated from a CSV file.
This should effectively increase search speed dramatically and also return more relevent search results. Because as of now, configurable products are getting "search bias" in the search results.
This isn't so much of an answer as a comment, but it was too lengthy to fit in the comments but I thought this might be beneficial to you. Once I get my module working, if you would like, I can possibly give you directions on how you could implement a similar module yourself.

Merging and querying multiple lists

I am still new to sharepoint and would like to know if it is possible to make a query that works across several lists. My list looks like this
Customers (id, name and so forth)
Orders ( id, order number, customer and some additional info)
OrderItems (id, name, price, description and so on)
I would like to create a view that will display the OrderItems grouped by Order which again will be grouped by Customer.
In pure .net code that is pretty easy but is it possible to implement it only using sharepoint lists?
Without custom code or third party components you would have only a few options. Using SharePoint Designer to create a Data View or creating a custom Query with some complex CAML which I'm not even sure is entirely possible.
Personally I would look more towards using Master Detail functionality using a combination of web part connections and filtering. By activating Enterprise features you have available a number of Filter Web Parts that should be able to be combined to filter lists to selected values.
Personally I have gone with custom code to bring back list data based on queries and then used the GetDataTable() method of the SPListItemCollection object. Once you have the list items in DataTables you have numerouse ways to sort filter and aggregate the information.
I should add to this that there is a great article on displaying information from a dataset using the SPGridView and SPMenuField. Once you have your DataTables you could establish relationships in a dataset to display the information using these controls:
