android studio update R when layout changed - android-studio

I need help to understand how to make R updating after I change my layout. In eclipse when you set the build automatically option, when you change your layout (eg: you add a new view with id #+id/new_id) and then you go to the Activity editor, I can immediately see new_id in the intellisense options when I type R.id.
In android studio I can't find a way to obtain the same behaviour, which I find much usefull
Here is my build settings screen
thanks for your help!

Is there a way to hide empty sourceSets in Android Studio

I'm writing a Kotlin Multiplatform project in Android Studio. As a result, I have multiple sourceSets configured in the project but some of them are empty. Removing them from the Gradle build is not possible as they are required for building the project. Is there a way to hide them from being displayed by the IDE?
(Android Studio Dolphin | 2021.3.1 Patch 1)
There is no built-in way to hide empty source sets, but you can create a custom annotation to do this.
Here is the Example. I Hope It would help you.
#Target(AnnotationTarget.CLASS)
#Retention(AnnotationRetention.SOURCE)
annotation class HideEmptySourceSet
For more details about annotations check this link:
https://kotlinlang.org/docs/annotations.html
Click the dropdown at the top labeled "Android" and select the "Project" view instead. This will display only the directories that are actually present on the filesystem rather than showing every source set that's configured.
Unfortunately there is no such option built-in in Android Studio environment.
It's also possible to use a different view (e.g. Project) or define bookmarks and favourites to navigate around quickly.
I would advise to try out the favourites, as setting up will take about 3 minutes and will make it way more comfortable to use.

visual layout editor does not allow drag&drop

I'am a newby in android studio and learning a lot, but now have a problem where i cannot seem to find the answer to.
In android studio you can visualy drag&drop your screen.
I have seen it can do al lot (although you sometimes need the xml) but for me it is not working at all.
I mean i cannot drag&drop any widgets on the screen at all.
Tried changing the theme: no help (really tried a lot of them)
Tried a complete new project: same story
Tried other APK verion: same story
Tried Invalidatd caches / restart: no help
Even with a new project (EmptyActivity) it add's a android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView and then gives error's on that
(Failed to find style 'coordinatorLayoutStyle' in current theme).
It also gives an error on layout_height/layout_with not being there. But they are there for each widget.
Please do not missunderstand: when i execute the project i runs just fine (both on phone and emulator) but the visual builder for the screen.....:-(
Does somebody knows how to solve this.
If more info is needed please ask.
Any help is more than welcome.
There are several things that could be causing this:
Your caches could be messed up. Try going to
File > Invalidate Caches / Restart ... (I know that you already tried this, but posting for future views.)
Also, make sure that you don't have Drag-n-Drop with ALT pressed only checked in your Settings (Appearance & Behavior - Appearance).
Finally, in a default project created in Android Studio, there are two XML files created for each layout. For example, content_main.xml is embedded within activity_main.xml. Make sure that you are using content_main.xml for your design work.
In the end i fixed it by changing the SDK version in de gradle file.
still do not understand why it was wrong as studio genereded it that way but now it works so.... for me: case closed.

Android Studio Resetting Changes to Default Code Style

I'm here today because I'm having an issue with Android Studio. I don't know if it existed on previous versions (I don't remember this being an issue, so I doubt it was a problem on a previous version), but currently I am using the Android Studio V2.1 Stable release.
My issue is that if I launch Android Studio (I happen to be on Windows, 64-bit Android Studio) and at the Start Screen/Page, I click Configure>Settings>Editor>Code Styles, and change the default parameters on any of the languages (XML, Java, HTML, etc.), the Default profile is copied to a new profile (Default(1)) and the new settings get applied to each profile.
If I Apply these changes and exit Android Studio, and launch back up and follow the same method...the settings have completely gone back to what they were before I changed them, with the exception of the Default(1) copy profile. But from my experience, Android Studio doesn't build new projects based on this Default(1) copy profile, it builds them on the Default profile. Which means all of my adjustments to using indents and not spaces, keeping indents on empty lines, etc. all do not get carried through to the actual project files, leaving me to have to go back into the settings with the project loaded up and change all of these parameters again. That's just asinine. Please tell me I'm missing something here and that there's a simpler way of achieving the ability to keep a code style template that I can use on all of my projects!
Perhaps it would be better to report or consult on this using the Android Studio feedback site. If that's the better option, I'm willing to do that too.
Thanks everyone!
What I do in that case is
Go to Preferences
Code Style
Select scheme you want
Click Settings cog
Click copy to project
Some OKs and then it works.
After selecting the code style that i want, opened the gradle.properties file in root folder of the project and deleted the following line
kotlin.code.style=official
deleting the above line, prevents the code style resetting to default.
Go to Preferences
Code Style
Set Scheme to Default [IDE]
Click restore defaults
The simplest way I found to reset the default settings is as follows:
In Android Studio, click on File.
Settings (Ctrl + Alt + S)
Under Editor in settings
Select Code Style
Next to Scheme: select the three dots to access the scheme options ()
Select Restore Defaults
A Confirmation Dialog Box will be displayed to confirm if you want to revert back to
the default settings.

can't find layout and classes in Android Studio

I'm a noob in Android studio and Java, I do have a solid c# background, but I can't seem to fix this problem:
Some of my partners asked to add a button to a previous android build created by someone else, so I downloaded Android studio and imported the project, but I can't seem to find anything in there. We can't contact the creater of the project to ask in what he developed the app.
As you can see, there's no layout in the project.
And this is what the project folder looks like:
Where Can I edit layouts? Am I in the wrong IDE?
Thanks
If you want to change the Layout, you can do Two things:
OPTION 1
1. Simply click into your Xml file and select the "Text" option at the bottom on your screen
2.Change to layout
OPTION 2
1.Just drag another layout in Design and put your items in it, delete your old layout PS. you can have layouts in other layouts
Now, Thats just for the Layouts, to see classes just do...
after double clicking that, itl bring up a new tab.
PS This is somewhat a Duplicate, try to search up your question first instead of making a new question

Android studio - variable declarations

Can someone tell me if it's possible to set automatic insert of 'final' modifier in Android studio(like Eclipse - Save Actions). Is it possible to find it in settings or do I need a plugin. I've tried to find this option in settings but no result. Thank you.
