Using 1.9-int branch of Orchard.
In PageCommand.cs (Orchard.Pages) there is the following code:
layout =
"{\"elements\": [{" +
"\"typeName\": \"Orchard.Layouts.Elements.Canvas\"," +
. . . .
When going to a Layout I created, I see no ability to get this code.
If I attach the Layout Part to a custom Content Type, there is a text area for the "default layout" which also has this element definition. So it seems I can change the definition in here, but again where can I generate it from a Layout I create?
Where can I generate this? I'd like to create a Command file to use in a Recipe and have it use a particular layout.
Thanks.
Did not realize that a simple Export of the Layout would provide the exact code that I needed.

I'm trying to add a custom link to the menu on MODX Evolution by using DLMenu snippet. Menu displays pages, and after the second point I need to add an anchor link on the main page ... is it possible to somehow implement this at the template level, or apply certain filters?
Thanks for the help,
Alexey
Please share your DLMenu snippet call. If I understand correctly you need to use rowTpl/ rowHereTpl parameters, please use chunk here instead INLINE code and specify the next (snippet If is used):
<li[+classes+]>[+title+]</li>
[[if? &is=`[+iteration+]:=:2` &then=`<li>Home</li>`]]
Setup:
I am using Orchard CMS 1.6.
I have a site where I need to be able to set the background color of the whole page. Ie, I need to style the body tag.
I could use the LayoutSelector module and have distinct layouts. However, the only difference in each layout is that the background-color rule for the body tag is different. So it seems a very un-dry way of doing things.
I can't find any way to make Vandelay.Classy add a distinct id or class to the body tag (it adds, as I understand it) an id or a class to the outer tag of a content type. In my case, that isn't the body tag.
So that is no good, I really do need to customize the body tag.
How to do this?
Note:
I need 3 different background colors. I also have a two column layout and a three column layout. [I use (a modified version of) the layoutSelector module to achieve this.] So to have 3 different colors of background, and I used layouts to achieve this, I would need 6 different layouts: TOTAL overkill.
There must be a better way...
From any cshtml file, you should be able to access the Layout shape. From pretty much anywhere else, you can still get to the Layout shape through WorkContextAccessor. Once you have a reference to the Layout shape, you can do Layout.Classes.Add("the-class-you-want").
I have a page I'd like to embed a news-feed widget into (so that the feed from some remote site will be displayed in my site).
While there are quite a few free news-feed widgets available out there (a partial list is here: http://allwebco-templates.com/support/S_script_newsfeed.htm), They all require insertion of complex code into the html page, while all the parameters are hard-coded into the generated code, which looks something like this:
insertedWidgetText = "<script id=\"scrnewsblock10795953\" type=\"text/javascript\">...script specific parameters go here...</script>"
let feedWidget = toWidgetBody [hamlet|#{preEscapedText insertedWidgetText}|]
This doesn't integrate well with Yesod's approach as it requires specifying to Hamlet that the content is preEscapedText, which in turn disables the ability to use Hamlet's processing to alter parameters of the widget dynamically (So in case I want the widget to use a different source, for example, I need to statically change the quoted text and cannot use Hamlet's variable substitution).
Of course I could do some text manipulation myself, tailor built for the widget I'm using, but that doesn't seem like the "right" solution (especially if I want to have the embedded text in some external file and not in the middle of my code as in the example above).
Can the above mentioned issue have a better solution than the one I thought about?
Is there an implementation of a news-feed widget in Haskell/Yesod that I can use as a plugin?
Note: I'm a very poor javascript programmer, but solutions in that direction are also welcomed.
Thanks,
I'm trying to create a Custom Part that just drops text into the page. I've created a part using the GUI that I called "Side Feature" and I added a text field called "Featured". I am trying put it on the side bar which I created on my layout, but I don't know how to move it to the sidebar. It shows up on my main content.
How do I move it to the sidebar? I tried using "#Display(Model.Featured)", but that doesn't seem to work. I also read about the placement.info file, but I'm not too sure how that would work in this sense.
I couldn't find a tutorial/blog post online similar to this. Most of them were too advanced. I am very new to Orchard.
You can't without code or additional module: sidebar is a zone for widgets, not for content parts. Placement info only works for local zones within the global Content zone.
If you want to do it through code, follow this: http://weblogs.asp.net/bleroy/archive/2011/03/26/dispatching-orchard-shapes-to-arbitrary-zones.aspx
If you want to use a module, look for Origami on the gallery.
Is there a way to change the default LayoutRoot type in Expression Blend 3? Currently, I'm prototyping in SketchFlow, and I prefer Canvas over the Grid, and it's annoying to change it for every new screen.
Here is answer that will work, but you will need to change the templates:
Back up the contents of the template directory which resides here:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Expression\Blend 3\Templates\
Find the templates being used in:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Expression\Blend 3\Templates\(CSharp|VisualBasic)\
In that directory there will be 4 relevant templates:
SketchFlowCompScreen,
SketchFlowCompScreenSL,
SketchFlowNavScreen,
SketchFlowNavScreenSL
If you edit the xaml files within these, whenever you create a new screen in SketchFlow the screens will use your changes.
