We have a worker role that's using local storage directory to save files uploaded by the customer and we'd need to have a backup of those files.
Given that we already planned to change the worker role to the storage services available on Azure, is there a temporary solution that we could use immediately to backup those files?
Is there an automated way (even with 3rd party services) to backup a local storage directory or even the entire C disk?
You can use AzCopy to bulk copy files from a local file system to an Azure blob container.
If you use the /XO option, that will only copy files newer than the last backup - in combination with the /Y option to suppress confirmation prompts, this is handy for running as a scheduled task to keep the blob backup current.

we are migrating TBs of files from onprem fileshare to azure file storage and use it as primary share. I understand Azure file sync can do this job we want to keep a local backup in a different server on prem. while file sync replicate changes back to onprem, but from what I understand, the frequency of sync happens every 24 hours from azure to onprem. Is it possible to increase that frequency? could we leverage databox for initial migration? Thanks
• Since Azure file share doesn’t have change notifications or journaling like there is on Windows Server, i.e., Windows USN journaling service which automatically detects any changes in the file share sync folder and automatically initiates a sync session with the Azure file share. Due to which, there is no way you can change the scheduled sync job cycle for Azure file sync. But, instead of changing the azure file sync scheduled sync cycle, you can use the following command to immediately sync the files that are changed in Azure file share: -

• Yes, you can leverage Azure DataBox in case you have more than 500TB of Data to be transferred to the cloud share and want to set it up and use it immediately or as early as possible on a whole. Also, ensure that the number of files to be synced to azure file share is less than 10 million as then indexing and their availability is a concern and is still in preview.

I have an Azure Fileshare and there are snapshots which were taken manually without the backup service. Meaning there is no Recovery Services vault.
I want to restore one of the snapshots. I can restore an individual file from the snapshot via Azure Portal. How can I restore the whole snapshot? (meaning not file by file)
Presently it's not possible, You can connect/mount the Azure file share into different OS system or use azcopy tool to copy the data Or Add new Recovervaullt.

Azure file share sits inside a Storage Account. Azure Backup can now see that file share and create backup snapshots of it, into the same Storage Account. To do this, the Storage Account is registered with a Recovery Services Vault, where the backup policy and retention points are managed.
Azure Backup offers a variety of options to restore your file share data. You can choose to restore the entire file share or individual files and folders. Restores can also be done to the original location or to alternate file shares in the same or different storage accounts. Azure Backup also preserves and restores all access control lists (ACLs) of files and folders.
I'm setting up a new Azure File Sync with a file server,
and there are some snapshots created by Azure File Sync every day.
I want to find a solution to change the snapshot creation time.
What do I need to set the command/Azure File Sync?
This is for a normal windows 2016 File Server, I registered the server endpoint "E:\"and the cloud endpoint "testsharefile1" into one sync group.
I had tried many times, sometimes there will be one snapshot created by Azure File Sync every day, and sometimes there will be two snapshots (almost same time) created by Azure File Sync.
I expect the Azure Files' snapshot can be created by Azure File Sync every day at the scheduled point time, but I don't know how to do it.
Azure File Sync used to create share snapshots daily to ensure files that are tiered can be accessed. These share snapshots are no longer needed by Azure File Sync so we stopped creating them when v7 released. To ensure you have a backup of the Azure file share, they should either manually create snapshots or use Azure Backup.
Note: Azure File Sync does still create a share snapshot when a new server is added to a sync group. Once the files have been downloaded to the new server, the temporary snapshot is deleted.
I have an app running on Azure app service, I have created some batch scripts which can take backup of the databases (DB running on some other servers i.e. 3rd party cloud db services - Not azure). Question is what is the best way/place to store these backup files in azure app services. Creating a folder named "Backup" in my source directory would overwrite these backups every time code is deployed. Followings are some of the concerns
Security of backup files
Backup files should be easily downloaded whenever I want to restore it
Backup files Shouldn't be overwritten or lost when the deployment is done or app slots are switched.
I was thinking of storing files in %HOME% directory, is it good idea ?
Also is there any size or storage limit with azure app service plans ?
I would recommend that you store the backups outside the Azure app service. Here's some problems with storing the files in App service:
You can't move the app easily from an App Service to an another.
App service has some storage limitations: Free and Shared sites get 1GB of space, Basic sites get 10GB, and Standard sites get 50GB.
It's not easy to access the backups outside of your app.
Instead, Azure Blob Storage is an ideal place for storing large files.
Regarding your concerns:
1) You can make the Azure Blob Storage container private, so that you can only access it if you know the key.
2) There's multiple ways to access the backups stored in Azure Blob Storage:
Azure Storage Explorer is a GUI for accessing the blob storage.
AZCopy which you can easily use from .BAT-files
Simple C#
3) When storing backups in Blob Storage, deployments slots doesn't affect the backups.
Blob storage also offers "Archive" tier which is ideal for storing the rarely used backups.
I have a file upload/download service that uploads files to Blob storage. I have another service (a job service) that needs to download files from file service (using the blob storage URLs) and process those files. The files are read-only (they are not going to change during their lifetime). In many cases, the same file can be used in different jobs. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to download a file once and all the instances of my job service use that downloaded file. So can I store the downloaded file in some shared location and access it from all the instances of my service? Does it even make sense to do it this way? Would the cost of fetching the file from blob be the same as reading it from a shared location (if that is even possible)?
Azure also provide a file storage. Azure file storage provide a facility to mount that storage as a drive and access contain of azure file storage.
Buy for this you need to download it once and then upload to file storage.
Then you can mount that to any instance of virtual machine or local drive.
That is a alternate way to achieve your goal.
