Can I use Groovy scripts in SoapUI to enable/disable assertions? - groovy

I'm using SoapUI Pro and a DataSource/DataSink loop to test a web service.
To make life more fun, I need to pull from four distinct source files, all of which will cause different expected results.
I'd really like to do this in a single test loop, because having scripts with multiple loops tends to crash SoapUI more often than not, but the sticking point is assertions.
How can I enable or disable assertions in a Groovy script in SoapUI? GetData doesn't give me anything to hook onto, and a documentation dive did not reveal the proper syntax. I'd assume something like testCase.assertion, but there's no such property as "assertion" on testCase.
Alternately, can I use a Groovy script to change the assertion's content? In other words, if I want phrase X with file 1, phrase Y with file 2, I'm just as happy using the same assertion, so long as I can change the content it's trying to match.

You could use your Groovy script to set some kind of property testCase.setPropertyValue('expected', 'value'), based on which file you are reading. You could then use property expansion ${testCase#expected#} in the assertion content.

Store custom Groovy function in JMeter UI

Been struggling with this a lot lately: How do I store a custom Groovy script with imports etc in the JMeter UI so I can reuse it later?
I don't want to alter JMeter startup property files in any way
I want to be able to call this Groovy 20+ times within the JMX with different parameters
From the JMeter doc:
Once the script is working properly, it can be stored as a variable on
the Test Plan. The script variable can then be used to create the
function call.
The groovy (compatible with Beanshell) is 62 lines and includes imports of custom JAR files. If I could store this as a var callable with __groovy(param) that would be great, I don't see how to do that from the docs. Setting up 20 JSR223s is incredibly clunky but I am coming up with workarounds if there is no JMeter way to do this.
References:
https://jmeter.apache.org/usermanual/best-practices.html#developing_scripts
Depending on what you're trying to achieve:
There is a possibility to specify a path to the file with your code in any of JSR223 Test Elements so you won't have to copy and paste it multiple times into "Script" area so in case of changes you will need to amend it in one place only:
There is groovy.utilities property where you can specify the path to your .groovy file containing the logic callable from the __groovy() function, it defaults to bin/utility.groovy
You can compile your code to .jar file and store it under JMeter Classpath, this way you will be able to call your functions from any place. See How to Reuse Your JMeter Code with JAR Files and Save Time article for example implementation/usage details

Jenkins Extended Choice Parameter Plugin Groovy Script

So in the website for the plugin, the change-log for Version 0.61 (Mar 30, 2016) mentions that they have exposed Jenkins and project bindings for use in a groovy script. I'm currently trying to set a parameter (multi select) and i want it to have different options based on the value of another parameter which is set before this one in the Jenkins job. However i'm not able to get the value of that other parameter in the script.
My problem is very similar to the one explained here
I've tried using ${param}, $(param), $param, bindings.variables.get('param') in the script, and none of it works
I've also tried to set that parameter in the Variable bindings section of the script but still no success.
Any ideas about the correct way to obtain the value?
I set the variable binding as param on the other field that you want to dynamically populate and used param (please note that i didnt use $ ${} or binding.get etc). It worked for me.
As a side note, Will active choice reactive parameter work in your case?

How to run one feature file as initialization (i.e. before all other feature files) in cucumber-jvm?

I have a cucumber feature file 'A' that serves as setting up environment (data clean up and initialization). I want to have it executed before all other feature files can run.
It's it kind of like #before hook as in http://zsoltfabok.com/blog/2012/09/cucumber-jvm-hooks/. However, that does not work because my feature files 'A' contains hundreds of cucumber steps and it is not as simple as:
#Before
public void beforeScenario() {
tomcat.start();
tomcat.deploy("munger");
browser = new FirefoxDriver();
}
instead it's better to be able to run 'A' as a feature file as a whole.
I've searched around but did not find a answer. I am so surprised that no one has this type of requirement before.
The closest i found is 'background'. But that means i can have only one huge feature file with the content of 'A' as 'background' at the top, and rest of my test in the same file. I really do not want to do that.
Any suggestions?
By default, Cucumber features are run single thread in order by:
Alphabetically by feature file directory
Alphabetically by feature file name within directory
Scenario execution is then by order within the feature file.
So have your initialization feature in the first directory (alhpabetically) with a file name that sorts first (alphabetically) in that directory.
That being said it is generally a bad practice to require an execution order in your feature files. We run our feature files in parallel so order is meaningless. For Jenkins or TeamCity you could add a build step that executes the one feature file followed by a second build step that executes the rest of your feature files.
I have also a project, where we have a single feature file, that contains a very long scenario called Scenario: Test data with a lot of very long scenarios, like this:
Given the system knows about the following employees
|uuid|user-key|name|nickname|
|1|0101140000|Anna|annie|
... hundreds of lines like this follow ...
We see this long SystemKnows scenarios as quite valuable, so that our testers, Product Owner and developers have a baseline of what data are in the system. Our domain is quite complex, and we need this baseline of reference data for everyone to be able to understand the tests.
(These reference data become almost like well known personas, and are a shared team metaphore)
In the beginning, we were relying on the alphabetic naming convention, to have the AAA.feature to be run first.
Later, we discovered that this setup was brittle, and decided to use the following trick, inspired by the PageObject pattern:
Add a background with the single line Given(~'^I set test data for all feature files$')
In the step definition, have a factory to create the test data, and make sure inside the factore method, that it is only created once, like testFactory.createTestData()
In this way, you have both the convenience of expressing reference setup as a scenario, that enhances team communication, but you also have a stable test setup.
Hope this is helpful!

Using GroovyScript in SoapUI to access and lock an external file

I have a set of 60 testcases in a project in SoapUI that I want to run concurrently. Each testcase needs to use a value to work. The values are stored in an external file (spreadsheet or textfile). Each testcase needs to get a value from this file and use it. However when I run the testsuite, multiple tests are picking up the same value however only one value can be used for a test (same value cannot be used in more than 1 test at the same time). I would like the external file to be accessed by one testcase at a time in soapUI. Does this involve locking or some sort of queueing system or what groovyscript could I use? thanks
I can't figure out how to get this to work with your external file, but I can think of another way only using SoapUI. Here's my suggestion for a solution:
Create a new TestCase containing only a DataGen TestStep.
Configure it so that it generates the numbers you want.
Change its mode to "READ", so that it will generate a new value every time the test step is run.
Now, wherever you want one of these values, instead of accessing your external file, add a Run TestCase TestStep to run your new DataGen test case, and make sure to return the generated number as a property. Use it where you need the generated number.
As I'm typing this, I just realized this only works with the pro version of SoapUI. If you don't have a license you can get a trial from the website.

Linux script input parameters generator - recommendation?

I'm looking for a tool to generate a script for handling input parameters.
I guess it would be best if the script would generate a file that I will later include (source) in my main script. This way, if the parameters requirements are changed, the generator can still be used without erasing the content of the main script.
It would also be nice if the tool would generate a help section with all the input parameters possibilities.
Any knowledge of such a tool?
Update:
Looking for a (ba)sh script generatorr, though I don't really care - as long as I can interact with it from a script (sh) file.
