Move files from Sharepoint to HotFolder - excel

I have emails with excel files attached that go to a Sharepoint site as well as a folder path to that sharepoint site on my desktop. I then take these excel files and drop them into a "Hotfolder" which essentially has a rake task sitting behind it that syncs these excel attachments every few minutes into a DB.
I'm curious if there is any functionality to get the files from the Sharepoint site to drop into that specific "Hotfolder" network file path, without me having to transfer the files myself manually. I am pretty new to Sharepoint functionality, so any ideas would be appreciated..

Uploaded excel workbook to SharePoint auto updates when changes made to the original

I have uploaded an excel workbook we constantly update to SharePoint for coworkers to view remotely as it has information they need. Would I have to delete and replace the workbook every time we make a change or is there a way that the workbook in SharePoint can automatically update with changes we make to the original which is on a Y drive? Thank you for any assistance.
When using SharePoint I find that there's an option to view the files in a document library using Windows Explorer. When you do that you can get the path out of the address bar and use that to update the file instead of the 'Y' drive. Benefit being you could also turn on version history in SharePoint then whenever anyone uploads a new version you can go to the past versions through SharePoint.
If your users don't all have access to SharePoint you could drag and drop from the Y drive to the address from the 'View in Windows Explorer' link or even automate it by writing a DOS batch job using the COPY command to copy the file over. Then you can use windows task scheduler to run the .BAT file however often you want.

Sharepoint - Link to a file that is updated Dynamically?

I'm hoping this is possible.
The organization I work for has a Sharepoint site and I am able to Upload Files to pages, however I am not an admin on our Sharepoint. I'm not sure what the version is, I think its older (ie: 2005).
I have some Excel Reports I've built. The data for these reports is pulled from a SQL Server Database which I have full control over. I have setup a Job in SQL Server to run every 12 minutes, this procedure pulls in some data and updates a few tables. These tables are used to feed my Excel Reports.
I have a separate Scheduled task set to open my excel report(s) refresh the data connections and save as a PDF.
I would like to link to these PDF Files via our Sharepoint so that the VIPs can access the reports as they want, but they always see the most up to date report.
I was trying to link to a Shortcut to the PDF Files but SharePoint doesn't seem to like that. How do I make the SharePoint link point to the PDF File that is saved over every 15 minutes?

The way I do it (newish version of Sharepoint) is make the save location for the PDF the network location where Sharepoint keeps the files for that site. Usually you'll have access to those if you can edit the Sharepoint site.
Here is a tutorial to find that network location.
EDIT: It very well may be disabled by the admin at the moment. But it looks like the functionality is there.
Given the age of your SharePoint (either 03 or 07), most of the modern tools that you could use to do this don't exist for you (Excel reporting, BI tools, etc). The easiest solution I can think of is to actually modify the other side of the equation. A few options:
Change your report to output two copies of the same file. One entitled (as an example) currentreport.xls and the other report20150626.xls . Put the link to the currentreport.xls in SharePoint.
Build an ASP.net page that runs the SQL query you have built and pull the data through a view. Since this would be pulled on demand, it may be a few more cycles of your SQL code, but indexing, caching and selective data pull can prevent this from being an issue. Put the asp.net code in an iFrame in a SharePoint content editor web part.
Build your report using SSRS and host the output of that in SharePoint using an iFrame.
Run a scheduled job in SQL that copies your current report data to a table and query that table instead of your normal report table. That way you only have one Excel file that points to a specific table so no need to update links. You can always keep copying data to specific files if you need a historical record and can't use the DB to store this data for you (though the amount of space that it would take to do so would be minimal).

Sharepoint 2010: Copy or add file to Document Library

I have a silverlight application inserted in a SharePoint page. The SilverLight application runs on a different server thatn that of SharePoint. From an event in the SilverLight, I generate a document on the server side from SQL Server. I can generate the doc on the server hosting the silverlight application and also copy it to the SharePoint server. I wanted to know if I can include this file in a sharepoint document library automatically. I was thinking if like emailing to a list allows us to copy the file into the library, can we configure the reverse, means copying the file make it part of the list.

I wanted to avoid uploading. For me uploading is sending the file from one location to the target location. But what I am saying is, if I copy the file into the folder where SharePoint keeps the file physically for the particular list, can it be added to the list automatically?

SharePoint stores the files in a database, not a folder.
WebDAV access may be what you're looking for - it's a backbone of the the Explorer View feature that allows a user to access a document library as if you were accessing a file system through a Windows Explorer window.
You can configure "incoming e-mail" properties for the document library, and assign an e-mail address.
After that, when you e-mail a document as attached to e-mail to this e-mail address, then attachment will be saved to that library by sharepoint automatically.

SharePoint Online file storage

We have a requirement to store documents in SharePoint Online as people copy files to a shared network directly.
Is there a way of automating this? I was thinking of a windows service which will poll the directories, find any changes like new subdirectories or new files, then upload them to a SharePoint Online document library.
You don't have to poll if you use a FileSystemWatcher inside your Windows service for real-time notifications.

However, if your requirement is 100% accuracy, you will need to build in some sort of tracking/checksum mechanism to make sure that every document was 1) detected and 2) successfully moved to SharePoint.
You may want to have your service check the delta every time it starts up, and then subsequently only respond to FileSystemWatcher events.
EDIT: Per Tony's question below, here are some additional thoughts on getting files to SharePoint.
First, try a simple test.
1) Copy the URL of a document library within the BPOS SharePoint site. Make sure you're on a machine that has the Office Online sign in app on it.
2) Open Notepad. Type some random text.
3) Click on File -> Save As.
4) Paste the URL.
5) Attempt to save the file.
This works great on "regular" SharePoint (done it many times). If this works with BPOS, it opens up several options.
File System Replication to a SharePoint Online or Office 365 document library is planned to be released with the "Cloud Connector for Office 365". With the current version database content is supported only, but bi-directional with V2.0

How do you remove a site from Sharepoint Designer?

I would like to use Sharepoint Designer 2007 as an html editor. I have a web site with a lot of files in a folder on my hard drive. I do not want Sharepoint Designer to make a web site out of this. I just want to use Sharepoint Designer to edit the html files, locally.
If I ever make a mistake and click on a tool for Sites, such as summary or report, Sharepoint Designer will decide that my folder is now a web site. From that point on, Sharepoint Designer is painfully slow whenever I open a file contained in the folder that Sharepoint decided is my web site, instead of being instantaneous like it was before.
I can resolve this situation by renaming the folder containing my web site -- everything gets fast again. I can also fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling Sharepoint Designer. Neither of these is a good solution. Is there a place in Sharepoint Designer, or in application data or the registry that I can kill off the Sharepoint Designer web site that's associated with a folder on my hard drive?
I'm not certain this will fix your issues (as I can't easily recreate the situation you describe). But I do know where SharePoint Designer tucks away metadata about the websites you open and edit.
The next time SPD converts your folder to a web, shut down SPD and delete the contents of the following folders:
WebsiteCache:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\WebsiteCache
Vista/7: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache
There is one file in WebsiteCache you may wish to keep, which is Websites.xml. This contains the "shortcuts" you see when you go to File > Open Site...
Web Server Extensions:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
Vista/7: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
Whenever SPD gets wonky about reporting which files are checked out/in, really slow to open, or just generally weird, we clean out these folders and things return to "normal".
