Update Parent Standard Object Getting Sum Value from Child in APEX - object

I am new in Apex. I want to write a trigger in apex for before insert. I have two standard objects (Contact, Opportunity).
SELECT sum(amount), Bussiness__c FROM opportunity
WHERE stagename='Closed Won' and id='006i000000Kt683AAB' GROUP BY Bussiness__c
I want when trigger runs this get sum(Amount) field and Bussiness__c value and then update Contact Total_Business__c with Sum(Amount) Value. Here Bussiness__C is contact id at opportunity object.

I'm assuming yo don't have currencies enabled in your org (if you'll see "CurrencyIsoCode" somewhere on your objects you'll have to modify this design a bit).
I am a lazy person and you didn't write anything about amount of data you expect. What I've written will work when there's reasonable amount of Opportunities per contact. If you'll start hitting the governor limit of 50K query rows it'd have to be done differently (I'll write a bit about it at the end).
I am not going to give you a ready solution because "homemade rollup summary" is one of assignments you might encounter during SF DEV 501 certification. I'll just outline some pointers and food for thought.
I wouldn't do it before insert, it's easier in after insert, after update (you didn't think about recalculation when the Amount changes, did you?). There should also be something said about after delete, after undelete if your users are allowed to delete Opportunities.
First thing is to build a set of "contacts we'll have to recalculate":

contactIds.remove(null);
This forces recalculation for all related contacts and ignores opportunities without contact. It'll fire always... which is not the best thing because on insert, delete, undelete you'd want it to fire always but on update you'd want it to fire only when Amount or Contact changes (trigger.old will hold different contact than trigger.new). You can control these scenarios by using stuff like Trigger.isUpdate, read up about it.
Anyway - you got an unique set of Contact Ids. I've said I'd do it in "after" trigger because at that point the new Amount is already saved to database and you can query it back from it:

This type of queries returns an "AggregateResult" that you'll have to parse like that:

As I said - it's a basic outline, should get you started.
This thing queries all opportunities for given contact. Your trigger can fire on at most 200 Opps. Imagine a situation where you change contact on all 200 opps -> gives you 400 contacts you need to update to clear/fix old value and to set new value. With 50K rows limit, assuming no other business logic is triggered (like update of Accounts? Action that started because some Opportunity Products were added?) it gives you problems when on average 1 contact is involved in 125 Opps. It sounds like a ridiculous problem but there are scenarios when you need to do it differently.
In such cases you can attack it from another angle. You don't really need to query all opps for given Contact, it's lazy. You couuld instead learn the current value of total business (put 0 if it happens to be null) and then add/substract all changes to the amount as needed, looking only at your trigger.old and trigger.new. It makes for more code and more planning upfront but the performance will increase significantly and this solution will scale as the amount of opps grow (it'll continue to look at only the current max of 200 opps in the trigger's scope).
Another approach would be to accept some delay in this rollup summary and write a batch job for it.

Tracking a counter value in application insights

I'm trying to use application insights to keep track of a counter of number of active streams in my application. I have 2 goals to achieve:
Show the current (or at least recent) number of active streams in a dashboard
Activate a kind of warning if the number exceeds a certain limit.
These streams can be quite long lived, and sometimes brief. So the number can sometimes change say 100 times a second, and sometimes remain unchanged for many hours.
I have been trying to track this active streams count as an application insights metric.
I'm incrementing a counter in my application when a new stream opens, and decrementing when one closes. On each change I use the telemetry client something like this

When I query my metric values with Kusto, I see that because of these clusters of activity within a 10 sec period, my metric values get aggregated. For the purposes of my alarm, I can live with that, as I can look at the max value of the aggregate. But I can't present a dashboard of the number of active streams, as I have no way of knowing the number of active streams between my measurement points. I know the min value, max and average, but I don't know the last value of the aggregate period, and since it can be somewhere between 0 and 1000, its no help.
So the solution I have doesn't serve my needs, I thought of a couple of changes:
Adding a scheduled pump to my counter component, which will send the current counter value, once every say 5 minutes. But I don't like that I then have to add a thread for each of these counters.
Adding a timer to send the current value once, 5 minutes after the last change. Countdown gets reset each time the counter changes. This has the same problem as above, and does an excessive amount of work to reset the counter when it could be changing thousands of times a second.
In the end, I don't think my needs are all that exotic, so I wonder if I'm using app insights incorrectly.
Is there some way I can change the metric's behavior to suit my purposes? I appreciate that it's pre-aggregating before sending data in order to reduce ingest costs, but it's preventing me from solving a simple problem.
Is a metric even the right way to do this? Are there alternative approaches within app insights?
You can use TrackMetric instead of the GetMetric ceremony to track individual values withouth aggregation. From the docs:
Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.TelemetryClient.TrackMetric is not the preferred method for sending metrics. Metrics should always be pre-aggregated across a time period before being sent. Use one of the GetMetric(..) overloads to get a metric object for accessing SDK pre-aggregation capabilities. If you are implementing your own pre-aggregation logic, you can use the TrackMetric() method to send the resulting aggregates.
But you can also use events as described next:
If your application requires sending a separate telemetry item at every occasion without aggregation across time, you likely have a use case for event telemetry; see TelemetryClient.TrackEvent (Microsoft.ApplicationInsights.DataContracts.EventTelemetry).

Running a repetitive task in Node.js for each row in a postgres table on a different interval for each row

What would be a good approach to running a repetitive task for each row in a large postgres db table on a different per row interval in Node.js.
To give you some more context, here's a quick description of the application:
It's a chat based customer support app.
It consists of teams, which can be either a client team or a support team. Teams have users, which can be either client users or support users.
Client users send messages to a support team and wait for one of that team's users to answer their question.
When there's an unanswered client message waiting for a response, every agent for the receiving support team will receive a notification every n seconds (n being set on a per-team basis by the team admin).
So this task needs to infinitely loop through the rows in the teams table and send notifications if:
The team has messages waiting to be answered.
N seconds have passed since the last notification was sent (N being the number of seconds set by the team admin).
There might be a better approach to this condition altogether.
So my questions are:
What is an efficient way to infinitely loop through a postgres table with no upper limit on the number rows?
Should I load 1 row at a time? Several at a time?
What would be a good way to do this in Node?
I'm using Knex. Does Knex provide a mechanism for lazy loading a table and iterating through the rows?
A) Running a repetitive task via node can be done via a the js built-in function 'setInterval'.

Then your interval function can do the actual work. An alternative would be to use cron (linux), or some OS process scheduler to trigger the function. I would use this method if you want to do it every minute, and a cron job if you want to do it every hour (in between these times becomes more debatable).
B) An efficient way...
B-1) Retrieving a block of records from a DB will be more efficient than one at a time. Knex has .offset and .limit clauses to choose a group of records to retrieve. A sample from the knex doc:

B-2) Database indexed access is important for performance if your tables are very large. I would recommend including an status flag field in your table to note which records are 'in-process', and also include a "next-review-timestamp" field with both fields being both indexed. Retrieve the records that have status_flag='in-process' AND next_review_timestamp <= now(). Sample:

Every 'nth' document from a collection - MongoDB + NodeJS

I am looking for a method to return data at different resolutions that is stored in MongoDB. The most elegant solution I can envision is a query that returns every 'nth' (second, third, tenth, etc.) document from the collection.
I am storing data (say temperature) at a 5 second interval but want to look at different trends in the data.
To find the instantaneous trend, I look at the last 720 entries (1 hour). This part is easy.
If I want to look at slightly longer trend, say 3 hours, I could retrieve the last 2160 entries (3 hours) however that is more time to pull from the server, and more time and memory to plot. As when looking at the larger trends, the small movements are noise and I would be better off retrieving the same number of documents (720) but only every 3rd, still giving me 3 hours of results, with the same resources used, for a minor sacrifice in detail.
This only gets more extreme when I want to look at weeks (120,960 documents) or months (500,000+ documents).
My current code collects every single document (n = 1):
db.collection(collection).find().sort({$natural:-1}).limit(limit)
I could then loop through the returned array and remove every document when:
index % n != 0
This at least saves the client from dealing with all the data however this seems extremely inefficient and I would rather the database handle this part.
Does anyone know a method to accomplish this?
Apparenlty, there is no inbuilt solution in mongo to solve your problem.
The way forward would be to archive your data smartly, in fragments.
So you can store your data in a collection which will house no more than weekly or monthly data. A new month/week means storing your data in a different collection. That way you wont be doing a full table scan and wont be collecting every single document as you mentioned in your problem. Your application code will decide which collection to query.
If I were in your shoes, I would use a different tool as mongo is more suited for a general purpose database. Timeseries data(storing something every 5 sec) can be handled pretty well by database like cassandra which can handle frequent writes with ease, just as in your case.
Alternate fragmentation(update) :
Always write your current data in collection "week0" and in the background run a weekly scheduler that moves the data from "week0" to history collections "week1","week2" and so on. Fragmentation logic depends on your requirements.
I think the $bucket stage might help you with it.
You can do something like,

If you had grouped by temperature, then each document will have the minimum and maximum temperature found in that sample
You might have another problem. Docs state not to rely on natural ordering:
This ordering is an internal implementation feature, and you should
not rely on any particular structure within it.
You can instead save the epoch seconds in each document and do your mod arithmetic on it as part of a query, with limit and sort.

Getting Multiple Last Price Quotes from Interactive Brokers's API

I have a question regarding the Python API of Interactive Brokers.
Can multiple asset and stock contracts be passed into reqMktData() function and obtain the last prices? (I can set the snapshots = TRUE in reqMktData to get the last price. You can assume that I have subscribed to the appropriate data services.)
To put things in perspective, this is what I am trying to do:
1) Call reqMktData, get last prices for multiple assets.
2) Feed the data into my prediction engine, and do something
3) Go to step 1.
When I contacted Interactive Brokers, they said:
"Only one contract can be passed to reqMktData() at one time, so there is no bulk request feature in requesting real time data."
Obviously one way to get around this is to do a loop but this is too slow. Another way to do this is through multithreading but this is a lot of work plus I can't afford the extra expense of a new computer. I am not interested in either one.
Any suggestions?
You can only specify 1 contract in each reqMktData call. There is no choice but to use a loop of some type. The speed shouldn't be an issue as you can make up to 50 requests per second, maybe even more for snapshots.
The speed issue could be that you want too much data (> 50/s) or you're using an old version of the IB python api, check in connection.py for lock.acquire, I've deleted all of them. Also, if there has been no trade for >10 seconds, IB will wait for a trade before sending a snapshot. Test with active symbols.
However, what you should do is request live streaming data by setting snapshot to false and just keep track of the last price in the stream. You can stream up to 100 tickers with the default minimums. You keep them separate by using unique ticker ids.

Maximum number of activewidth object allowed

My program runs fine with limited data but when I put in all four databases activewidth won't work.
Database 1 has 29990 entries.
Database 2 has around 27000 entries.
Database 3 has roughly 17000 entries.
Database 4 has 430 entries.
Each database, grouped by its kind and includes business type, name, address, city, state, phone number, longitude, latitude, sales tax info, and daily hours of operation.
In total 12.1Mb of data.
With database 1 only in the program it works fine and I can scroll over a point on the map and activewidth will increase the size of the dot and the program will bring up the underlying data on the left hand side of the screen just like it is suppose to do.
Now that I have added in all four maps and can click them on and off separately, with only #1 turned on activewidth won't work and the underlying data won't show on the left. The points on the map are there and I can click through all four checkbuttons and turn on and off the points. I currently don't have the code in yet for the underlying data on database 2-4, just the ability to turn them on and off. Only activewidth isn't working now that I've got it so I can view the points for all 4 databases.
I decided to try commenting out all code for databases 2-4 and see what would happen and it went back to working fine again. Then I went and added in database 2 back into the mix and it went back to not working again. Then I tried database 2 only and it was activewidthing fine as long as database 1 was commented out. With database 1 active the activewidth was very slow to work/not working at all.
Is there a feasible maximum number of entries I can use. Hopefully not because I still have several more databases to get finished off and added into the program that will take the total number of entries up over 100K before all is said and done.
Nothing else makes sense since I'm just changing self.alocation to self.blocation, when I go to add in database 2-4. I'm just changing the identifier to show which database is being worked with and copying the rest of the code over between routines since everything is the same...just different business separated into appropriately grouped databases. It seems it's in the amount of data that is being used and not in the anything doing with the way the program is written.
I figured by splitting up the files, not only for my benefit but also to make the files smaller it would help alleviate the problem but so far it hasn't. Is there any other way to work around data overload?
