web deploy backup for single App not a whole site - iis

I have followed the instructions here http://www.iis.net/learn/publish/using-web-deploy/web-deploy-automatic-backups
and the setup works fine. but my site has a ton of applications. and when i publish a single application on the site the whole site is being backed up.
I want a setup where, when i publish an application to my site, web deploy will back up that one specific Application.
Here is the setup I have
<wdeploy>
<backup turnedOn="true" enabled="true" backupPath="d:\AppBackups\{siteName}" numberOfBackups="5" continueSyncOnBackupFailure="false">
<excludedProviders>
<provider name="appPoolEnable32Bit" />
<provider name="setAcl" />
<provider name="appPoolPipeline" />
<provider name="createApp" />
<provider name="appHostAuthOverride" />
<provider name="appPoolNetFx" />
</excludedProviders>
</backup>
</wdeploy>

I'm struggling with this too, and found a workaround/solution, although I do not like it.
You can create another internal "Site" that maps to the same path location as the child application and setup backups for that. That way when you deploy to the internal site it will be reflected in the child application of the other site and still be backed up.
Edit:
1. You can have Site A: with Child Applications B,C,D
2. You can then create a Site B which has its physical directory linked to the same location as Application B
3. You are then able to setup backups on Site B and they will be reflected in Application B
4. Site B can be setup to not be public and you can maintain the Subdirectory path of Site A, Application B

I have also struggled to find a way to this using tools provided by Microsoft, but I do not think this is possible (by design):
1) Configure Web Deploy Publishing (IIS menu item) options are available only at Web Site level, not Web application level. Maybe they thought that, since you are configuring at site level and you can deploy from Visual Studio on any Web App you want, back all the site, just to be sure.
2) Deployment automatic backup seems to know to expand only site related tokens: {SitePathParent} and {siteName}, so no application level ones.
So, either accept full site backups (zip files of the entire web site which may take some time) or use some custom Powershell scripting for deployment against IIS.

Deploy Client Web Part globally using SPFx on SharePoint 2016 (On Prem)

I have succedeed in deploying a simple client web part on a SharePoint 2016 site with the following steps (following many guides, including https://www.voitanos.io/blog/definitive-guide-sharepoint-framework-sharepoint-server-2016/):
I configured the required Service applications (subscription and app management) and managed the blocked file types.
I created an App Catalog site for my Web Application.
I wrote two urls in "Central Administration -> Apps -> Configure App URLs" (it seems that it doesn't matter what URLs I write, the important thing is that they are not empty or I can't add the App to my sites).
I set up my CDN by creating a Document Library and a folder. I specified this location in the write-manifest.json -> "cdnBasePath".
I uploaded the sppkg (output of gulp package-solution --ship) to the App Catalog and it got distributed succesfully.
I went to the root web of the site collection I was working on and added the App.
I created a web part page with an empty web part zone and.
I succesfully added the client web part that was in the default "Other" group, and it rendered fine in the page.
Until here everything is fine. There was some tweaking to do with yeoman, gulp and node versions, but it works.
The problem is that if I add the app to the site root web, the web part is not available to the other webs, since from what I read, if I add an app that way the scope is only that web. In order to make the web part available on other webs, I would have to go to every web and add the app there. This could be fine if I had 2 or 3 webs, but what if I have 1000 webs?
I also read that if you add the app to the App Catalog Site, the scope should be "tenant", and you can then choose where to distribute the app so that it's added for all webs from this page:
https://i.stack.imgur.com/MAX8K.png
If I add the target site here, and the press "OK", an exception occurs:
Exception in page: https://i.stack.imgur.com/S8cl1.png
Exception in log: https://i.stack.imgur.com/K2GMB.png
I tried debuggingg the Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.AppInvPage.SetControlStateUsingAppInstanceId method with dotpeek and I think I was able to identify the problem with the AppManifest object, that seems to have some null fields that on which gets called a "ToString", but wasn't able to pinpoint the exact problem yet.
So I thought I could maybe write some PowerShell script to add the App to all subsites, but it seems the method require some parameters that somehow don't seem right. For example, Install-SPApp requires a SPApp object that is obtained with Import-SPAppPackage. Even if I manage to launch the command with the .sppkg file stream, when you launch Install-SPApp an exception occurs: "Install-SPApp : Value cannot be null.".
Honestly I'm running out of ideas.
TL;DR: Has anyone had issues with SharePoint 2016 and globally deployed client web parts? Is it possible to automatically add the app containing one or more client web parts to all subsite on SharePoint 2016?

My iis automatically points my solution directory though it's published

I have published my IIS application to C:/inetpub/wwwroot/appDirectory and it's have different configuration in web.config file.
and in development version solution directory i have another web.config file and When i build solution my IIS start pointing to solution directory.
that's too annoying, every time i need to remove application from iis and again make application on IIS itself.
Go to properties of your web service in Visual Studio.
Navigate to Web tab
Either Change the local IIS to express or you can give a different application name so it wont replace your deployed application.

Visiting an Azure Website while Publishing displays IIS Errors

I have an MVC app hosted on an Azure Website.
I have custom errors enabled and working (when not publishing):
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="~/Error/NotFound" xdt:Transform="Replace">
<error redirect="~/Error/NotFound" statusCode="404" />
<error redirect="~/Error/NotFound" statusCode="403" />
</customErrors>
When I publish the website from Visual Studio, if I try to visit the site while the dlls are being updated, I get a nasty IIS error.
I'm surprised that Azure doesn't wait to "tie down" the new version until the publication is complete, to avoid this scenario. Is there a way to achieve this "instantaneous switch" behavior?
And/Or - How can I prevent this error from being displayed?
I can't say this would be unusual. Depending on size of the deployment it may take a while for IIS to restart and reload leading to 503 Service Unavailable or similar errors in the meantime. CustomErrors won't help you here as the ASP.Net pipeline isn't even being reached at this point. What Azure Website level are you running on (Free, Shared or Standard?) If you can up the size of the instance to try and get things moving again more quickly.
I think you deployment is too slow. IIS detects changes in dll files and restart the app-pool automatically without waiting for the other dll files.
Try to set custom values in waitChangeNotification and maxWaitChangeNotification in web.config. Doing so you can ask IIS to wait for some seconds before restarting app-pool. I'm not sure if it works on Azure. On my on-premises IIS I use custom values that allow me to do a long deploy (about 5 seconds).

Where is Umbraco.config stored in Azure cloud services?

I've got an existing Umbraco install on Azure cloud services (not Azure web sites), and although the web.config tells me that it should be found at ~/App_Data/umbraco.config, it isn't there.
Does anyone know where this would be stored? Is there a chance it is writing to a db table perhaps?
I need to edit some nodes as I suspect that at least one is owned by a user which no longer exists, hence no nodes at that level are visible in the admin system (JS error).
The site was set up with Umbraco Azure Accelerator, if that offers any clues.
Thanks!
It is worth noting that Umbraco hasn't needed the Umbraco Accelerator for Azure in the latest versions due to the use of Azure Web Sites. I am wondering which version of Umbraco you are running? The Accelerator projects are being deprecated and have ceased updates, as you can see here by the lack of recent updates. You can read more about the reasoning behind this, and about how the Accelerator's functionality is now a part of the Azure core itself, over here.
So - assuming that your site is an old one and you cannot just reinstall it as an Azure Web Site, can you firstly please confirm that you have the config enabled through the following setting in /config/umbracoSettings.config?
<XmlCacheEnabled>True</XmlCacheEnabled>
If this is false (as is best during all hosting environments except live) then we know that Umbraco will not use the cache. Can you please also check that the following section doesn't list any other machine IP addresses in umbracoSettings.config? Note that this is only relevant if the enabled attribute is true as in the example below.
<distributedCall enabled="true">
<user>0</user>
<servers>
...
</servers>
</distributedCall>
Next, we need to check that Umbraco is still set to use the location /App_Data/umbraco.config through the web.config file.
<appSettings>
<add key="umbracoContentXML" value="~/App_Data/umbraco.config" />
</appSettings>
We should consider the way that Umbraco works on Azure and whether it could have any effect on your site. The Umbraco Accelerator used to be necessary to synchronise the umbraco.config file between Azure instances. With each instance running a separate Umbraco website, there has to be a way that they can talk to each other. The accelerator mirrors that cache file between instances.
Assuming that your code is a default install, and not having been worked on by someone else before you, then it could be an idea to reduce your site to a single instance. Now see if it generates the cache after restarting the website. Finally, you can upgrade the site to see if it regenerates the cache.
These issues are usually always caused by some kind of configuration issue. I also remember that you can simulate Azure deployment using the Windows Azure SDK which you can use to examine for signs of the cache. Good luck.
I'm not sure about the Umbraco Accelerator or a non Web Site project, but we currently are running Umbraco on an Azure web site and App_Data\umbraco.config comes and goes when it pleases and the website unexplainably works. I would like to find the reason behind this if anyone has an answer??

Creating Web-Site and Web Application in IIS

Till date, I was thinking that we always create/host web-site in IIS.
But I was going through powershell tutorial today which says it is different to create web-site and a web application.
This is the tutorial link (check different section on creating web site and application) -
http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/433/powershell-snap-in-creating-web-sites-web-applications-virtual-directories-and-application-pools/
Can please guide what is the difference between the two.
Any example will be really helpful.
Thank you!
A web site in IIS is the top level under Sites. The default one that is normally automatically created for you when installing IIS is named "Default Web Site".
This is the "root" that runs on port 80.
Under that, you can create virtual directories, which is basically sub-levels under the root web site, or you can create separate web applications that lives as separate applications under the root level.
A web application must live under a web site.
It is possible to create other web sites that can either be set up to run on other ports (i.e. 81), or to be named with a different host name which enables multiple sites to run on same port number. If named with a different host name, this name must be registered in a DNS server somewere to point to the IP address for your server. A workaround is also to to add it as an entry in the hosts file on the client computer that should access it.
This is example on how it looks in IIS Manager:
I have a script I use when creating a website and AppPool in IIS 7+, .net4, Integrated pipeline and thought you might find it useful.
Use it as so:
CreateSite.ps1 [WebsiteName] [AppPoolName] [Port] [Path]
If you are reinstalling the site, you will need to Stop it first. That is done as so:
StopSite.ps1 [WebsiteName] [AppPoolName]
you can grab the scripts from my gist
Update I have added/extended the scripts and put them in their own Github repository
Here is my CreateWebsite PowerShell script: http://www.zerrouki.com/create-website/
