I installed xamarin in windows 7 Home Basic. I need to connect Mac host in visual studio, I get the ios settings to build, but its not host automatically.
On the Xamarin guides, they informed Craigs-MacBook.local but I cant get the host in my laptop. I simply struggled
Can you please explain me what can i do further to host Mac in windows PC to run iPhone.
Thanks in advance.
You need to install Xamarin on your Mac, then you have to activate your Xamarin Studio in both computers (Mac and Windows). To do this you need to:
Create a Xamarin account and set it or link it to your Visual Studio(Windows) and Xamarin Studio(Mac) IDEs so they can interact. This is Via Tools > Xamarin Account. It is not necessary to buy a license since you can start with the trial version of Xamarin.
Create a Test or whatever Project on both IDEs in order to be prompted to activate your Xamarin Studio and Visual Studio.
Once you have "activated" both your IDEs, you have to link Visual Studio to your iOS Xamarin via: Tools > Options > Xamarin > iOS Settings.
And that's all.
Maybe you can't set your Host Mac Xamarin.IOs in Visual Studio because you haven't activated your iOS Xamarin Studio in your Mac, in order to do that, in your Mac Xamarin Studio create a project from a template that utilizes network connections, and you'll be prompted to activate your Xamarin Studio. In Windows Visual Studio you have to create any project and you'll be prompted to activate your Visual Studio.
Also your SDKs on both machines may be out of synch, so you'll have to download some updates on your Mac and Win to synchronize both IDEs and SDKs in order for them to work together.
Also you have to install your Xamarin and Visual Studio in this order:
First, Install Visual Studio in Windows.
Second, Xamarin Studio in Mac and Windows.
Finally Link your Mac and Win through Visual Studio.
Also it is recommended to have a Windows Pro version since you can't use the Windows Phone Emulator on a Home (Core) Version of Windows 8 because you won't be able to install Hyper-V which is needed to run this Emulator. Furthermore, you'll need a Visual Studio Pro or higher version to link your Xamarin to Visual Studio.
Hope it helps!
I had to follow the instructions here: https://developer.xamarin.com/guides/ios/getting_started/installation/windows/troubleshooting/offline.pdf
Basically I was missing:
Open spotlight on the mac
Type "xamarin build host"
Launch, and it shows a pairing prompt
I followed the on-screen instructions, using a pin to associate my windows machine

According to the document Designing user interfaces with Xcode, I am noted that
Starting in Visual Studio 2019 version 16.9, there will be no supported way to edit iOS storyboards on Windows. Use Visual Studio for Mac and the Xcode Interface Builder to continue building your Xamarin.iOS user interfaces.
We need to edit the storyboard on Xcode.
It told me that we can use VS2019 for Mac and Xcode. What I want to know is that can me develop the Xamarin using VS2019 on Win10 any more, rather than installing VS2019 on Mac.
The background behind that notice is that Microsoft decided to not work on its iOS user interface visual designer any more (due to various reasons), so you lost the way to edit storyboard files on Windows.
So yes, you can continue to develop the Xamarin using VS2019 on Win10, but now that approach has many more restrictions.

I have purchased Windows 8.1 pro and downloaded Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Phone.
But when I try to run a simple app in the emulator but it says You need to Update Visual Studio Express 2012 to update 3 since it has some compatibility issues,i have downloaded the ISO file from the below link.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39305
But when I try to install I get these errors:
What is the issue here ?
Setup Failed
1) The form specified for the subject is not one supported or known by the specified trust provider.
2) The form specified for the subject is not one supported or known by the specified trust provider.
So how to solve this issue here ?
If you want to create Windows 8.1 apps you should install Visual Studios 2013.
Is it possible to build an iOS app using Xamarin Studio running on Windows and have it connect to the Xamarin.ios Build Host running on the mac?
The example I have seen only talk about using Visual Studio.
No it is not possible. Xamarin Studio on Windows will only build Android apps. If you are going to use Xamarin Studio and you have a connected Mac, then why not just use it on the Mac?
No you can't use Xamarin Studio on Windows and connect to the Xamarin.iOS build host, you have to use Visual Studio.
Just remember that you will need to do any design and layout tasks on Mac OS X using XCode though. On Xamarin Studio for OS X Alpha Channel there is an interface builder but I think it does not apply to the Windows version of Xamarin Studio or the Visual Studio addon.
You can write iOS apps on windows but you can not compile them unless you have xcode on mac
While not specifically answering the question, it should be noted that it is possible to develop for iOS in Visual Studios using a connected Mac as a build host. This connected Mac could either be through the network or can even be a VM running from your Windows machine.
You can now use the Interface Builder inside of Visual Studios on Windows to create iOS interfaces (only while connected to a Mac as described above).
I have VS2012 Pro Update 3. I've downloaded and installed Windows Phone 8 SDK to create Windows Phone apps for the latest MS smartphone OS (WP8). However, I get the above-mentioned error when I try to create a new Windows Phone App project.
I deinstalled and reinstalled WP8 SDK as suggested on many forums and blogs, and even used the "repair installation" mode for VS2012 and WP8 SDK, but all this did not help.
How to get rid of this error?
P.S. My pc has Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and the CPU supports Hyper-V needed for this development (added this optional component to my Windows successfully). Other common Windows projects, such as WinForms and WPF apps, can be created and compiled without any problems in my dev env.
I solved my puzzle using the trial and errors method. Go to the TOOLS menu, then choose 'Extensions and Updates', then the Update section and install the latest NuGet update. Funny, yes?
My Solution: UNINSTALLED NuGet (as updates to it did not work)
I have installed visual studio 2012 update 3.
Go to the TOOLS menu, then choose 'Extensions and Updates', then the Update section and install visual studio update.
I have a copy of Visual Studio 2102 installed on my computer. Since my computer met all the requirements for the emulator (SLAT, Hardware Assisted Virtualization etc.), i downloaded the Windows Phone 8.0 SDK and proceeded to install it.
Unfortunately, i cannot create a new Windows Phone application. Project templates (Windows phone application, Pivot application, Panorama application etc) do not appear in VS2012 main page. The only available option is "Discover Windows phone tools" (which redirects you to the download page of the SDK).
I tried to uninstall everything and repeat the process, but the result is the same.
I'm still able to open projects made with the old Windows phone SDK 7.1 and test them on the new emulator. This should be enough to prove that the installation was successfully completed.
I can't understand what went wrong. May you help me?
I had a similar bug because my Visual Studio Pro is in French. When you install Windows phone SDK, an express version of vs is already installed, you can create phone project in this version and open these projects in vs pro but you cannot create phone project directly in vs pro, that's right ?
Go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Windows Phone
You should have a folder called 1033, it contains phone template for english version of visual studio. Copy and paste it then rename the copy in your code language (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0t12k0f0.aspx , for me it's 1036).
After that, close visual studio, launch C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\Tools\VsDevCmd.bat with admin rights and type : devenv.exe /InstallVSTemplates /ResetSettings
Relaunch visual studio pro, and you should have a Windows phone entry.
Parallels provides a very good knowledge-base article on fixing this problem:
KB: Running Windows 8 Phone emulator in the Windows 8 virtual machine
Copy lang files also in:
...\IDE\ItemTemplates...
...\WindowsPhone\ProjectTemplates...
It helped me!
