Dynamics CRM 2011 - Record URL Wrong - dynamics-crm-2011

I've created a workflow that will send a user an email that contains the URL for the entity. Somehow it's putting the wrong URL (specifically subdomain is wrong).
Does anybody know if there is a setting that controls this and what it is?

It gets the server URL from the setting in Deployment Manager, as far as I know. If in DM you specify the server URL as:
mycrmserver:5555
this may cause an issue. Using a FQDN will probably give better results:
mycrmserver.mydomain.com:5555
But obviously make sure you have DNS on your domain pointing to the internal LAN IP of that for internal clients (using mycrmserver.internal.local style FQDN won't work if you need IFD)
I'm not 100% sure this will fix it, but certainly worth looking at.

Open Deployment Manager -> Right Click on Microsoft Dynamics CRM -> Properties -> Select Web Address tab -> Make sure that the domain name specified under Web Application Server is correct

Find original main domain name based on add-on domain name

This may not even be possible but I'm trying to figure out the URL of the main domain for an add-on domain.
Lets say for example the site is at mymaindomain.com.
If I go to
http://mymaindomain.com/cpanel (or :2082 or :2083)
I get nothing.
That is because mymaindomain.com is an add on domain for the hosting account.
Lets say the primary domain on the account is myprimarydomain.com and this was the domain originally set up with the hosting account. However, this domain is no longer valid and not being leased by the hosting client anymore.
If I log in to cpanel using the old main domain by going to
http://myprimarydomain.com/cpanel (or :2082 or :2083)
I am able to get into cpanel.
The problem is, there must be a new main domain name associated with this account, but I don't know what it is.
Is there any way to find this out given cpanel access to the account?
Is there any other way to find out what the primary domain is on the account?
Any help is much appreciated and bounty will be awarded promptly to the first correct answer.
Sorry, my rep is too low to comment yet, I was wondering if you are able to get the IP of your server once you are in cpanel. (Should be on the right side). If so ... can you go here and input the IP and tell me what the 'node hostname' says? Also ISP might help.

How to stop "only secure content is displayed" post-SSL update? CRM 2011 OnPrem

We recently updated a CRM 2011 on premise instance to use SSL i.e. https. I wasn't involved in the server part of the updates. Everything works fine except at initial login, IE displays the "Only secure content is displayed" warning. If I look at the source of the page, I see a bunch of http://... refs to microsoft sites for example. So presumably that is the source of the issue. The landing page doesn't have any custom "stuff" on it, all OOTB.
What can we do to get around this? I know we could change an IE setting but that isn't an option for us. Is there some IIS voodoo tthat we can use? Surely we don't have to go through all http refs in the web app and change them?

Man, I wish. Even when we get HTML e-mails with images in them we get that message.
Because it's a security setting and it's the browser causing the error message and not the server, there really isn't much we can do about it on the server side except for serving all content over SSL.
That being said, it seems really strange that out of the box content is giving you errors.
It's possible that using a re-write rule on IIS will stop this from happening, as all the content on your server is capable of being served in SSL, but CRM is not requesting it - I'm just hoping that this doesn't break any customization and links to external services.

Cloud Service Custom Domain Redirection configuration

i am not sure whether this correct words to describe the problem, but i try my best to explain.
Suppose i deployed a cloud service with A Name. now client ask me give me something good domain name rather than A.cloudapp.net, so according to need i given him fancy domain name A.myapp.com.
After some time they thinks A is not a good name , give me B. so i change the deployment to B.cloudapp.net and then configured custom Domain Name as B.myapp.com.
Client again comes as says my customer is still using A.myapp.com. Can you do something to redirect them to B.myapp.com. with message that it moved to another address.
As i know i used only CNAME and ARecord on domain registrar . how can show a message over there. That this page is moved to other domain.
If A.myapp.com is no longer in the DNS records then the only way that it's still working is that the DNS propagation hasn't taken full effect yet. That can take even up to a few days. Once that happens then A.myapp.com should no longer resolve. This might also be working if you have a wildcard record for #.myapp.com pointing to the same A.cloudapp.net site.
You can create the A.myapp.com DNS record (if it's not still there) and point it to the same cloudapp.net app again, but then in your cloud app look at the hostname as it comes it to the request. If it is A.myapp.com show them a specific page that reminds them this is now B.myapp.com and then redirect them.

CNAME to an A - pointer To webpage

Is it possible to use a CNAME pointer, that points to an A pointer that points to the webapplication?
I've tried this multiple times now, without any success, and i start to think that it is not possible?!
i got this
"Bad request, invalid hostname" think its an 400 error.
If it is not possible to do it this way, can someone please give me some ideas how to start?
My web application:
I got a couple of users registered at my web application.
Each users is supposed to get an sub domain, for example, user1.mydomain.com (A-pointer to web.mydomain.com, where all the aspx filer are)
by reading the domainname I get the userID.
If this is not possible i have to put a lot of files in each domain, which i dont want to do. what would you do?
wildcards is not possible.
Why a cname to a A? i have to take into account that each user maybe want to point their domain to his or her account at my place. so their pointer should be a CNAME...
Thanks!
The problem is that your virtual hosts are not configured to accept requests for the domain the the CNAME record is for.
You need to set the ServerAlias directive (assuming you are using Apache) so it contains all possible variants that you want to use to access your app.
A CNAME record is simply an alias of an A record, so it will always resolve to the IP that the A record points to. What you need to do is tell your web server how to handle those domains (it's based on the Host: header of the HTTP request).
You will find that you have same problem if you create A records for your other subdomains, instead of CNAMEs.
If you need to dynamically add/remove users, you would probably want to use mod_vhost_alias so you don't have to restart Apache every time you do it.
EDIT Sorry, just noticed the reference to aspx, which presumably means you using IIS, which means I can't tell you exactly how to configure it since I know next to nothing about IIS. Re-tag this question with IIS and someone will probably be able to help :-)
ANOTHER EDIT This page from M$ may help you with IIS virtual hosting, although I still don't know how to do it dynamically/programmatically.

Create user friendly alias for a sharepoint site

I have a test Sharepoint server running on a Windows 7 machine. The url is http://liu-t500-01 and i want to create a user friendly alias http://temp for it. i have added
127.0.0.1 temp
to my hosts file (an A/host entry) and i have also created an alternate access mapping in Central Administration
http://liu-t500-01 Default http://liu-t500-01
http://temp Intranet http://temp
However when i try http://temp in the browser the sharepoint site does not come up. This is probably a simple problem but has me scratching my head...what did i do wrong?
Changing the IIS binding only will cause errors. You need to modify the alternate access mappings in SharePoint. There are tons of good articles our there that tell what to do in detail.
Here is just one: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/Video/ff679917
Try adding a host header in IIS
In IIS click on your site
choose the Bindings action
Click Add
In the Host Name field enter "temp"
click OK
