In my root folder I have an .htaccess file that redirects URLs to a subfolder as follows. This folder contains a coming soon page:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?myotherurl.com$
RewriteRule ^(/)?$ test [L]
When this rule is applied I get the following url: http://myotherurl.com/test/
Now I would like to rewrite (not redirect) the shown URL to http://myotherurl.com by creating a nested .htaccess. What should this file contain?
Try this one:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?myotherurl.com$
RewriteRule ^/?(.*)$ test/$1 [L]
This puts everything to the target directory. In your condition you missed to mask the dot. This does not matter in this case but it would also match the domain wwwamyotheeurl.com
If you have just one static page you could also use this rule:
RewriteRule ^ test/index.html [L]

My website is located in a subfolder (gng2) of my public_html folder. The below code from the public_html/.htaccess file works fine in the sense that typing my domain loads the website properly from the subdirectory:
## redirect to subfolder containing the app.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com$ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !gng2/
RewriteRule (.*) /gng2/$1 [L]
My problem is that www.example.com/gng2/whateverpage also works. I want to rewrite/reroute these urls to www.example.com/whateverpage so that the "gng2" subfolder does not show up for example in Google Analytics results.
How should I modify the above code to achieve this?
Thanks,
W.
You can use this redirect rule in gng2/.htaccess to remove /gng2/ from all URLs:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+gng2/(\S*) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [L,R=301,NE]
# other rules appear below this line
Please keep your htaccess file inside gng2 folder and try following rules in your htaccess rule file. Please make sure these rules are at top of your file(for applying http/HTTPS to URLs, in case you have more rules), also please do clear browser cache before testing your URLs.
RewriteEngine ON
## redirect to subfolder containing the app.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?example\.com$ [NC]
##Place your RewriteRule here.....
I have a domain
http://www.example.biz/
I developed a site and put the code in a sub folder on this domain for example, the site is at
http://www.example.biz/site
now, I wanted to point my main domain to this folder so that when user visits example.biz he actually sees example.biz/site and for that, I added the below lines in .htaccess
RedirectMatch ^/$ /site/
it works perfectly however, the url user sees is
http://www.example.biz/site
I do not want that, I wanted user to only see http://www.example.biz as URL but this domain should point to the sub folder invisibly. How should I do that ?
Using mod_rewrite you can use the below rule, now when you access http://www.example.biz it will show the index file from for site/.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^$ /site/ [L]
Or if you want to show every file try with below,
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(/|.+)$ site/$1 [L]
I found a simpler solution,
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://%1%{REQUEST_URI} [NE,R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?example\.biz$
RewriteRule !^site/ /site%{REQUEST_URI} [L]
I'm trying to rewrite /streams/post.php?id=1 into /streams/thread/1 .
I did find some codes for .htaccess with parameters but it didn't work in the subfolder.
Also, should I put another .htaccess in the subfolder or use the one on the main directory? ( /.htaccess or /streams/.htaccess)
Also, in the past when I've rewritten, sometimes it redirects from for example /streams/thread/1 to /streams/post.php?id= and sometimes it actually displays /streams/thread/1 in the URL, I would like it to display /streams/thread/1 in the URL, not just redirect.
You can put your htaccess in root or streams folder (that's up to you).
In root folder
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/streams/post\.php\?id=([0-9]*)\s [NC]
RewriteRule . streams/thread/%1? [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^streams/thread/([0-9]+)$ streams/post.php?id=$1 [L]
In streams folder
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /streams/
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/streams/post\.php\?id=([0-9]*)\s [NC]
RewriteRule . thread/%1? [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^thread/([0-9]+)$ post.php?id=$1 [L]
I had a website which url is http://www.testingmyweb.comli.com
In my website a had a folder TCWEB. My website is in this folder.
I want to map http://testingmyweb.comli.com/TCWEB/home.html to http://testingmyweb.comli.com/
What can I changes do in .htaccess file?
Based on your comment, your htaccess file looks like this:
RewriteBase /
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.html
Redirect /TCWEB/home.html testingmyweb.comli.com
The rule that you have appends .html to requests that are for html files (but don't have the extension). The redirect that you have underneath that needs to be removed. In order for you to rewrite / to /TCWEB/home.html, that mod_alias directive will cause a loop. Replace it with these rules:
RewriteRule ^$ /TCWEB/home.html [L]
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /TCWEB/home.html
RewriteRule ^ / [L,R=301]
The first rule makes it so requests for / maps to /TCWEB/home.html, but the URL in the browser's address bar remains http://www.testingmyweb.comli.com. The second rule does what the Redirect does, except it checks that the request was actually made for /TCWEB/home.html, and not an internally rewritten URI. So when someone goes directly to /TCWEB/home.html, they get redirected to /, then the first rule gets applied.
I have the following rewrite rules in an .htaccess file. The idea is any requests to www.site.com should be routed to the 'folder' subfolder, but any other domains should be unaffected.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.site\.com$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/folder/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /folder/$1 [L]
This works for the index file in /folder/, but I have images and css in /folder/assets/ and these are not loading.
Any idea how to pass on the rewrite to the entire contents of /folder/, including files in /folder/assets/ ?
