ExpressionEngine updates not reflecting on site - expressionengine

A client has asked me to update their EE site. On the homepage, there is a small slider that shows text data. For each slide, the original creator of the site made entries and is displaying all of them in the slider as a channel called footerstats. The footer template references this channel.
I went to each entry, changed the info, saved. I then updated the footer template and channel just for the heck of it. I even cleared all caches. Still, the old info is still showing up on the homepage. Any tips? I am new to EE.

Did you clear the cache folder directly instead of via EE? Sometimes I notice that with aggressive browser caching (Chrome) and sometimes just general clearing, it helps to actually manually delete the contents of the cache folder instead of just using the EE interface.

Have a look in the add-ons -> modules list to see if CE Cache or Template Morsels are installed. Those are the two third party caching add-ons that immediately come to mind that could directly lead to EE's "clear caches" not changing what you're seeing in the site, as they cache to the database. You could also look for Stash - that also saves data outside of EE's native caching, but in a different manner than CE Cache or Template Morsels.

I would suggest looking for CE Cache and clear any cache if it is installed.

webstandard theme not rendering?

An application we're developing for a customer is running more or less fine on our internal development servers (V 8.5.3 with UP1 and FP5 as well as a secondary V 9). Our development is done using V 9 designer clients.
Yesterday we pushed a test version onto the customer's server (V 8.5.3 FP5 / UP1). The result rendered by their server however is completely different from what we get from our servers. It turns out that only custom style sheets are rendered while everything that usually should be coming from the server's webstandard theme is completely missing: no xsp.css, xsp_ie.css and the likes. Thus the pages are completely unusable: tabbed panels are rendered as standard elements, rich text editors are completely broken, just to name a few things.
We had the local admins check the server file system: webstandard theme appears to be there, and accessible to everyone.
Has anyone ever come across something like that? In 4 years of developing Xpages I've never seen something like that, at the moment I'm completely clueless in what to try next.
I really hope that this is just a minor flaw easy to be resolved.
Lothar
Have you checked the installation? I have seen servers that were upgraded the wrong way by copying the data directory, then upgrading and then moving back the data old directory, thus overwriting some important files or even loosing important files and directories...
This is hilarious: for security reasons the customer's admins deleted all files from the server's file system that they thought weren't needed. For some reasons they left the themes but removed all resources like css and js files (including all dojo dirs). No, I won't tell any names.
Lesson learned: never just assume a customer's setup to be fully functional until this fact is properly proved ;)

The entity's form doesn't get updated

I have a HTML file, which I've uploaded as a web resource and linked to via an activity's form designer in an IFRAME. So far, so good.
Then, when I edited the source file locally and uploaded it (browse-save-publish, of course), I got no difference in the appearance on the screen. Here's the weird part. When I open the uploaded file in the editor, I can see the changes to my source code. On the RTF tab I can also see the change in colors of the background.
However, reloading the "create new"-form doesn't bring those changes to the client! I've tried restarting the window, restarting IE, clearing the cache. Nothing helps.
When I entered the very same page from a different client, I got to see the updated version. But after that, the subsequent changes are not updated either. It's like if IE thinks "oh, matey, ya wanna cache that for life, I see". Well, I don't. I'd like to see my edition in action pretty much directly and without creating a new account with a new client. :)
After a while, the update seems to go through and I get to see a new version but not in all browsers.
What is causing it?! How do I kill it?
(Win8/IE10/CRM11OL)
I have seen CRM do some weird IIS Caching. I'd assume this is a server side issue, but your using crm online, they won't let you run an IIS reset now will they? :) Have you tried running it on a new client in private browsing mode, deploying your change, and opening a new private browser to test if it is a client caching issue or a server caching issue?

In drupal Primary Link is like empty

I'm making a webpage in Drupal 6.26, and I blocked in a strange thing. I develop both in Localhost, and online, and the strange is that some how in online the primary links are empty (but there's element on it I can see in /admin/build/menu-customize/primary-links also in this page the menu elements appeared in the place, but in the other pages they don't), but in Localhost everything is ok, and i checked all of the settings and they are the same, the theme files are the same to,(and i didn't change anything in the other drupal files), the only difference is that the online page is set in offline (because the under maintenance), and I tried it to make it online, but the problem is still there, so I don't really have any idea.
That might be a theme problem. Make sure your local configuration has the same active theme as the installation on the public server. Try switching to a default theme that comes with Drupal.
Another cause might be one of your modules. Try disabling all but the system modules and then start re-enabling them one-by-one to see which one changes your menu.

Best way to control access to individual nodes

am I just stupid or does Drupal have a big flaw? (probablt the former of the two..)
I have built a site with some public content and some private content. The problem is that even though menus can be hidden from public, unauthorized users, there is no stopping a visitor from just typing in node/5 (if node/5 were one of the private, hidden pages).
And I am baffled by how troublesome this is to fix. there is no basic functionality to fix this, and having tried two modules simple_access and access_control none of them work! Currently trying to fix a drupal 6 site. Any suggestions on modules that might fix this VERY BASIC functionality? Is Drupal not meant to handle corporate pages where you have external pages and internal sensitive content?
By the way, Drupal 7 is in the .9 stage, there are still VERY limited module availability, mostly everything is in an alpha stage and has been like forever, is there no development being done for D7?
The module that'll fix the problem for you is Nodeaccess; this is the opening text from the module page:
Nodeaccess is a Drupal access control module which provides view, edit and delete access to nodes. Users with the 'grant node permissions' permission will have a grant tab on node pages which allows them to grant access to that node by user or role.
So that will do exactly what you want. Also the way Drupal's access system works means that any menu link that points to a node to which the user does not have access, will not be shown for that user. So you won't even have to hide your menu items any more, Drupal will do it for you :)
Regarding Drupal 7 contributed modules, the 'major' modules (Views, CTools, Devel, etc.) are all coming along nicely and are stable, in RC or at least beta. Because Drupal is open source the sole maintainers of smaller modules may not have the time to devote to bringing the Drupal 7 version alongside maintaining the v6 module (a lot of people still use D6 and there are still issues to attend to there).
Personally I've developed quite a number of D7 sites now and have found the contributed modules to be available and of a good quality (for the most part). I guess it just depends what specific functionality you need at the end of the day.
I think there's just a gap between your expectation and how Drupal actually works.
Drupal doesn't limit access to content based on whether or not that content is in the menu. On a site with thousands of nodes it would be overwhelming to have a menu of thousands of items.
Drupal has a rich node access system and there are dozens of modules which can help solve this problem. See the list of content access control modules for ideas on which you might use.
When I run into specific problems with modules I tend to follow a few steps:
re-read the README.txt file and INSTALL.txt file
re-read the project page to see if it links to any further documentation
read the issues for the project to see if any of them have similar descriptions of problems (click on the number links in the right sidebar of the project page)
create a new test site where the only thing I install is the module in question and then walk through the steps I think I should, documenting them in a new issue in the project issue queue as a "support request", and then ending the post with "expected results" and "actual results" - maintainers will usually get back in a few days time
nodeaccess module (http://drupal.org/project/nodeaccess) should work perfectly for you.

How to Bypass Output Cache in SharePoint 2007 Publishing Internet site

We're building a mobile-friendly site to work in tandem with our client's MOSS 2007 internet site. We need to be able to redirect users who hit the home page and are using a mobile device.
Our original intention was to add a custom control to the home page page layout that would detect the current user's device and redirect to the mobile site accordingly. We quickly realised that this would not work as we are using the Output Caching functionality provided by SharePoint/Asp.Net. This means that the detection code will only run for the first visitor to the home page until the cache expires.
Our next idea was to build a custom HTTP Module and process the detection there. However, we are finding that the Output Caching is not allowing that either. If the cache is set while a mobile device is visiting all browsers are subsequently redirected to the mobile site (until the cache expires).
If we turn off output caching it works just fine - but we cannot turn output caching off, especically for the home page. We did investigate Substitution (Donut) Caching but this is not working due to the fact we are filtering the Asp.Net response within another HTTP Module that tidies up the rendered HTML for XHTML compatiblity reasons. I've also experimented with the output cache profile by setting it to vary-by-header property to "User-Agent" but I am getting mixed results and am also concerned at the memory implications of caching multipel versions of pages (we already have memory issues now and then).
It's possible we could run the redirection code in JavaScript but then we risk not detecting a lot of devices that don't have JavaScript enabled. This is a government website so the usage of JavaScript has to abide by accessibility guidelines.
Does anyone have any other ideas as to how we can solve this issue. Has anyone done this before? Perhaps in a different way?
Hope you can help, thanks.
p.s. I have also asked this question on SharePoint.SE but wanted to get as many eyes on this as possible.
I would suggest you to try ISAPI filters
I've actually solved this one I think. I've pretty much followed this article here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms550239.aspx. We have updated the code in that article to build a cache key based on whether the current page is the home page, whether the current user is using a mobile device and whether or not a cookie exists forcing the user to the full site. I will probably write this up as a blog post. When I do I will update this answer providing a link.
