Recently I want to run a statistical software SCILAB on our Linux server. I downloaded the software and ran the binary (the software manual says no need to install), but I got this error message:
"scilab-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
I don't have a root right on the server and I don't think the administrator will install the missing packages for me. Is there are way to solve this problem? The server seems running Fedora or RedHat, and has "yun" "rpm".
Thanks,
If you can get a compatible libXss.so on the system under your account, try adding it to your library path
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/path/to/solib
and try running the application.

After working with Oracle databases and Apex for many years, I want to get some knowledge about Oracle forms & reports, because they are still quite widely used.
I've never seen Oracle forms & reports, so I want to create a development installation for learning purposes. Unfortunately installing Oracle forms seems a bit more tedious than I expected and I'm a bit stuck.
Windows installation
I first tried installing Oracle 12c (from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/downloads/index.html) on windows 7 x64. I installed the "Standalone forms builder", because when I chose "Forms and reports deployment", I got this error:
After installation I tried to start frmbld.exe, but immediately got this error:
FRM-91135: fatal error: message file D:\oracle\client\user123\product\12.1.0\client_1\forms\mesg\fmcus.msb not found
My oracle client is installed in that directory, but the mentioned file is certainty not there.
linux installation
Googling around I did not find any solution for this problem, so i decided to switch to a Linux virtual box machine. I installed Oracle linux x64 and then installed with a download from the same page again.
Once more I could only choose "Standalone forms builder", when I chose "Forms and reports deployment" I got exactly the same error as on windows. The installation ran successful.
After installation I tried to start formbuilder, this time I was presented this error:
./frmbld: error while loading shared libraries: libXm.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
So now I'm a bit stuck. My questions are:
Am I going the right way with the way I'm trying to install Oracle forms? or is there a better / easier way?
Do I need a "Forms and reports deployment" to be able to experiment with Oracle forms? or is the standalone installation the right way to go?
Are there any pre-installed virtual machines available for this? (I googled but couldn't find anything.)
Do I need a running Oracle database to be able to experiment with Oracle forms?
Linux installation:
Yes you are going the correct path installing Forms/Reports. There is no easier install method (Oracle does not have a prebuilt VM with Forms/Reports).
You will require an Oracle database to connect to.
To fix the linux error you will need to install additional OS packages, probably motif - you can run (to find the packages required): yum whatprovides libXm*
I have installed Forms Builder 12c (standalone install) on Fedora and it is working correctly.
The windows error might be related to you OS PATH ENV - if you have any other Oracle products installed, the PATH order may need to be changed, put the Forms related paths at the beginning.
Unfortunately I was unable to get it properly working with my previous attempts. In the end I restarted an installed a windows 10 x64 virtual machine, after which i followed these excellent video's to get everything working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tgtHPJGc7o
I used the Software Manager in Linux Mint to install Eclipse Platform. It was working yesterday, however, now whenever I run it I get the following error message:
The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library.
I tried uninstalling it and then installing it again. Much to my confusion, this did not work. The error message still persists. It implies Eclipse requires a shared dependency that it cannot find. Is there anyway to find out what this is and install it? I've tried 'apt-get dist-upgrade' to update packages but this didn't resolve the issue at hand.
I have been using linux and Eclipse for years, but I would never suggest anyone install Eclipse from the platform repositories for any distribution.
Get your eclipse zips directly from Eclipse.org
Personally, I would just "Google it." (Or, in my case, "DuckDuckGo it.") Put the exact error-message text in double quotes to tell the search-engine that you are looking for the exact phrase.
DDG promptly referred me to this page: http://veeddie.blogspot.com/2010/06/eclipse-executable-launcher-was-unable.html
So I am using Ozone OS which is basically just fedora with a cool theme, and a lot less crap installed. I tried installing VMWare Horizon view client from here: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VIEWCLIENTS_LINUX_32&productId=421&rPId=7320
and then i renamed the file to vmware.bundle, when i make it runnable with:
chmod +x vmware.bundle
i ran the file using:
./vmware.bundle
this is what happens in my terminal
VMWare Horizon Client is an x86 application but you are trying to install it to an x64 Linux.
To run this installation, you may need to install 32-bit runtime libraries. Do you want to proceed? (yes/no)yes
Extracting VMware Installer...done.
but when i try going to the application menu, I can find VMware anywhere
There is really no such thing as ".bundle" files on Fedora. The only format for installable software on Fedora are RPM files.
All that this ".bundle" file appears to be, is the vendor's custom installation script, that's all. It's not any kind of a standard packaging format, of any kind.
You will be able to find a newly-installed application on your application menu only if the application correctly installed a .desktop file in the right location. If this installation script did not do so, you won't get anything in the application menu.
It is the application script's responsibility to install a .desktop file in order for the application to appear in the application menu.
try running /bin/vmware
that is the default install location
I'm attempting to use Darling directly built from source on Github, I ran in to a few issues with building and dependencies, but with the help of apt-file I got through all the little problems. Now, I'm trying to run Sourcetree From Atlassian (as Wine can't seem to handle the windows version) and am getting the following error. Would anyone happen to have an idea on why? Currently running Ubuntu 13.04 64bit.
dyld: Cannot execute binary file: Failed to load native library: libSimpleWebKit.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I just had this error myself. The error message tells you already everything you need to know: The appropriate library - libsimplewebkit - was not found and needs to be installed. Just search for simplewebkit with your distros package manager and install the appropriate package. If it doesn't find anything you will need to compile it yourself.
As suggested by Google, I'm trying to get http://jpegclub.org/jpegtran/ working on my Ubuntu server, but I'm getting the error:
"jpegtran: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
A Google search told me to install (via apt-get) libjpeg-turbo8, however apt-get can't find the package. My own Ubuntu computer (running 12.0.10) can find the package just fine.
I tried installing http://sourceforge.net/projects/libjpeg-turbo/ with no luck.
Am I doing something wrong or have I missed something? How do I get jpegtran working?
This question may be old, but i was trying to run the glassfish updatetool and it failed because of the lack of the libjpeg library.
Steps i did take:
1. install libjpeg62:i386 (for 64 bit ubuntu amd6)
I hope it helps someone
