What is the best way to achieve the following customized layout? - xamarin.ios

I am kind of wondering what the recommended method is for a customized UI. I have about 5 screens, which will share some of the same elements. One is a topbar, kind of like the navigationbar but different. It has the title on the left, no back buttons, a background image and a logo on the right. The other is a menu at the bottom containing and UIImageView for the bar, 3 UIButtons a the moment opening 2 different screens and one opens the Camera. I want to reuse the top bar and bottom bar on all 5 screens. Sort of like one would use a UserControl on ASP.NET.
Currently I have created 5 ViewControllers, which gives me 5 XIB files that I have to put the same elements on and I have to hook up the same events. I would want to create 2 elements (top and bottom bar) which I can reuse across all screens. Or is there a simpler solution to all of this like e.g. 1 screen pushing different middle parts into it or something like that? Quite the beginner at MonoTouch for that matter, so I'd love to know what the way-to-go for something like this is?

If you are not able to customise / reuse the standard UINavigationController etc, you could -
Create a custom UIView in Xamarin / Monotouch for each of your reusable elements, then insert them into each ViewController (programmatically is probably easiest) as required. This would give some code reuse and is akin to the UserControl example you mentioned.
Alternatively for IOS5+ you could create a Custom ViewController Container which has all the common parts in one place and have a single container UIView which you would then switch the rest of your Content ViewControllers as you need to.

Windows Explorer Navigation Bar in PyQt

What's the best approach to mimic the Windows Explorer navigation bar in PyQt?. Perhaps a list of QComboBoxes as part of a parent class that concatenates the current item of each combo box to resolve the final path?
Is it possible to get a similar look by using stylesheets?
This is the object I need to mimic. I just want a theoretical approach about the best way to mimic it.

This is technically known as a breadcrumb widget.
There are multiple approaches to this. The closest emulation to Windows Explorer's behavior--leaving out the normally hidden line editor--involves a chain of widgets like so:
A top level parent QWidget-derived class with your implementation, which would have:
A QHBoxLayout
An arbitrary number of QComboBoxes
A QFileSystemModel from which to populate the combo boxes.
Alternatives
You could use a single QLabels with a series of hyperlinks divided by path separators if you don't care about drop-down behavior. Qt Creator does this.
If your data source is static and not as gigantic as the filesystem, you could use QToolButtons backed by a tree of QAction/QMenus. This is possibly a masochistic approach, given that you have to populate all of the actions and menus. Since that's what they are there for, though, it might be handy as part of a context-sensitive menubar or tab bar.
I was looking for such a widget too without any luck. So I've tried to implement this by myself. It's not finished yet and needs some more work, but here's the first result: breadcrumbsaddressbar.
It's based on QToolButton widgets with menu. Parts of address which don't fit are hidden like in Windows Explorer. Also the widget has auto-completion feature.
Update: there's also a C++ widget QtAddressBar which I have't tried.

How can I add a button at the end of a listView?

Iwould like to add a button at the end of a listView in the same way as the bing apps do (see picture for example).
I looked for hours in google and in the microsoft documentation but canøt find anything that can give me an idea of how to do this.
Did anyone achieved this?

If you run that app (Health & Fitness), then run Visual Studio and use Debug > Attach to Process, you can open the DOM Explorer and examine how that UI is implemented.
What you'll see in this case is that it's not using a ListView at all, but rather it's own custom control that's just based on a CSS grid. That is, just because there's a grid-like view doesn't mean it's a ListView. You can always use straight HTML/CSS layout to achieve these sorts of things, which is all that's happening here. As such, it just makes separate div's for those two "More" elements.
Now if you do want to use a ListView, there are a few things you can do. First of all, if you want to render any item in a ListView differently than others, you have to make sure to use a different template. What this means is that you use an item rendering function rather than a declarative template, which then enables you to examine the item data and programmatically decide what kind of rendering to perform.
Second, if you want to have items of different sizes, then you need to use cell spanning. In Windows 8.0/WinJS 1.0 this is a property of the GridLayout. In Windows 8.1/WinJS 2.0 you instead use the CellSpanningLayout.

How to make grid view in j2me

I am very new in j2me. I want to design following type layout and components.
Mean I want to arrange my items in gridview. And after clicking on each item I will move to another form.
I am using simple lcdui. Please suggest me how can I do this. Means how can I arrange these items in gridview and what items should I use here buttons or something else.

In J2ME you have two options for UI: Form and Canvas.
Forms are a very simple way to display information without dealing with the graphical side of things, where Canvas is a blank screen and you need to draw the objects and their behaviors.
There is a third way: the guys at Sun has created a framework called (LWUIT which stands for Light Weight UI Toolkit). This toolkit provides the simplicity of Forms and the UI control of Canvas.

How do I get action buttons with custom layouts to be styled like standard action buttons in Android 3.0+

I'm having a bit of trouble with custom action buttons in the honeycomb+ action bar. I'm adding a menu item that uses a custom layout (using the android:actionLayout attribute). The reason for the custom layout is that I want a button that has two lines of text that can be updated dynamically.
However, I still want this action button to operate like the other standard buttons. By this I mean that the background fades in when the button is selected, and fades out again if it is unselected, all in the style of the platform (the colour seems to differ between different platforms/devices - I've seen both grey and blue versions)
I've tried using the action button style for the custom layout:
style="#android:style/Widget.ActionButton"
and I've tried setting the background for the custom layout to:
android:background="?android:attr/actionBarItemBackground"
but to no avail, and I'm kind of trying things fairly randomly as I can't find any documentation on how to do this (or if indeed it is even possible).
I know I can approximate this behaviour myself by setting the background, but it would be nice if I could just set the item to behave like a normal action button in terms of how it appears when the user interacts with it.
Anyone have any ideas?

Ah, sorry to answer my own question but I have just stumbled upon a way to do this. I was halfway there - you need your custom layout's style to inherit from ActionButton:
#android:style/Widget.ActionButton
but then you also need to make the layout clickable:
android:clickable="true"
for it to work. Using both of these makes the custom action buttons look just like the regular ones when you press them.
Hopefully that'll help someone trying to do this!

Magnifier like feature inside popup window....how to?

I need to create a magnifier like feature in my app. Like the "loupe" effect on the iphone !
The problem is that I need to do that inside a popup window and I don't get how to make it work !
The popup window display a grid of colors that I generate and draw one by one using shapeDrawables. What I want is to display that color bigger, zoom on it when the user touch and move his finger around the popup window (color grid). The idea is to create a tracking-zooming effect on the colors so the user can see more clearly under wich color his finger is currently located.
Problems are :
I can't seem to create another popup window on top of this one, Android limitation I think ?
If I modify the current shapeDrawable, resize it, change the boundaries, It needs to re-display the popup window before it takes effect (which is not acceptable of course)
So, anyone knows of a way I could draw over that popup window ?
EDIT :
I've tried solving this issue using a Custom Toast object...But it doesn't quite do the trick. It works, but toast object appears slowly and so the touch motion is not in sync at all with the user movement over the color grid.
I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but you might be able to accomplish this by using a second Activity... this second Activity would use Android's translucent theme if you include the following attribute in your manifest:
<activity android:theme="#android:style/Theme.Translucent">
This second activity will now only contain what you place in your layout. That is... the "real" activity you're running will still be visible behind it (anywhere you don't cover it up with views in the new layout).
You also might prefer Theme.Dialog if you really want to resemble a popup.
Something to keep in mind if you take this approach is you will probably want to override onWindowFocusChanged() in the new activity, and finish() in the event of you losing focus. Additionally, you'll need to figure out how to share your data between the two activities.
