What is the difference between the MasterUrl and CustomMasterUrl in SPWeb please?

The best description comes from Site Settings > Look and Feel > Master Page in the SharePoint UI.
This is SPWeb.CustomMasterUrl:
Site Master Page
The site master page will be used by all publishing pages.
This is SPWeb.MasterUrl:
System Master Page
Use the system master page for all forms and view pages in this site.

Clicking link mailto: my.name#domain.com on my Google Site does not open gmail anymore. Has something changed? Thanks for information!
I don't know that which browser you are using. May be it's a browser specific problem.
Check with different browsers to see if it's same for all.
Also, try this link. It may help you -

If a user create a new site and just saves is without checking the site in, where's the location?
I want to test what's happens if a farm administrator tries to publish a site that's not a "draft" or a published site. (got a custom "publish now"-button without having to go trough a workflow)
Since Sharepoint dot not support draft versions of sites, I think you mean List Items or documents that not have been checked in by your users.
To see those items you can use the Site Content and Structure facilities. Check this post:

Currently sharepoint responds to http://sharepoint.mydomain.com. I want it to respond to http://portal.mydomain.com also. This is an intranet site.
Is a DNS alias and alternate access mapping all I need to do? If not what are the necessary steps to accomplish this?
It seems so. Take a look at this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointadmin/thread/b76cf17d-85cb-4a5e-9f7b-e0efdf438667 and this: http://dotnetengineer.wordpress.com/2008/06/30/url-aliases-for-your-sharepoint-site/. According to the second link you may want to set Zone setting to Extranet.

I unintentionally removed the default web site in the IIS manager.
Is there a way to bring it back or re-create it?
Right click on the folder/directory Web Sites , and select New -> Web Site.
If you want the exact same configuration, choose the directory to be C:\Inetpub\wwwroot

I would like to deactivate or, rather, just undeploy most of Liferay's default portlets. I know I can deactivate the portlets through the Liferay control panel one by one or adding a false for each portlet, but I was just wondering if there is a better way (maybe a way of disabling all the portlets and enabling the ones I need)
IMHO you can disable the portlets loaded by the portal server if you remove their entries from webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\liferay-portlet.xml
