How to add a progress bar so the user doesn't hit Cancel in a dialog? - installshield

I'm working with Installshield 2011 on a basic MSI project.
The problem I have is that the SetupInitialization dialog is taking about 2 to 3 minutes when performing upgrades. During those minutes the users only see:
Computing space requirements
And nothing seems to be happening.
I'd like to add some kind of progress bar so they become aware that something is happening and that they shouldn't hit cancel (We've documented that this steps takes a while, but of course everybody reads the documentation, right?)
I've tried adding an animated GIF file with some kind of progress bar, but seems like GIF files are not permitted in dialogs.
Now I'm exploring the Progress Bar control, but I'm not sure this is the right way to go.
Does anybody know how can I achieve what I need?
Thanks,

Unfortunately this is not supported by MSI packages.
Do you have custom actions in InstallUISequence? If you do, make sure that you set an Action Text for them. The initialization dialog should display the action text for all InstallUISequence actions executed before the first modal installation dialog.
If you don't have custom actions, but you have a very large installer, you have limited options.
A solution would be an external UI which can display an indeterminate progress. For example a HTML control. Not sure if InstallShield supports a custom progress bar in HTML, but you can try.

Ultimate Special Offers. How to set a place for the table?

I have a question about Ultimate Special Offers plugin. Has anybody used it?
The problem is that this plugin sets the table with discounts in a special place where it wants. In my case, it shows up under the "add to cart" button. But I want it to appear above the button. How can I regulate the place where the table shows up?
You have two choices. One is to dig into your theme and move the table yourself. If you right-click the element displaying the table while having your browser console open, you will spot where it is in the HTML that makes up your page. Now click the Add to cart button, and see where it is. Memorize the name of the button, and now look for that in your product.liquid page. Chances are, the plugin itself has some liquid, so you can cut it out of the page, and move it the before the add to cart button in the liquid.
If all that seems like a mountain to climb, just ask the makers of the plugin to do it for you. It is a simple task for them, and should take them a minute to do. If they choose to ignore you, I would call them out as unreliable, and try a different plugin, from a company that will help you with your simple task.

Linux - Any way to configure or create a script/program to make right click not select menu item?

The default behavior for right-clicking on most recent Linux distros is to select a menu item in a right-click menu upon releasing the right mouse button. While this saves some mouse presses, it is driving some of my Windows-trained (and rather vocal) coworkers completely bonkers, and a lot of searching has told me that there is no option to change this behavior in the distros they are using (mostly RHEL 6).
To make my work environment a little less volatile I would like to try to program a fix or patch for their systems to make right clicking work like they are used to (the menu does not even appear until the right mouse button is released), but I don't know what kinds of tutorials I should be looking for (shell scripts? C? etc.) in order to do this.
If I could be pointed in the right direction that would be lovely! (or if someone by chance already knows of a fix, that would work too, though a lot of Googling has told me that there does not appear to be one currently)
Follow the directions here:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/20550/how-to-disable-the-forward-back-buttons-on-my-mouse
But instead of disabling the forward and back buttons, disable the right click mouse button. You can easily dump the resulting command into a shell script which calls xmodmap. Then you can make icons that disable and enable the right mouse button, for the times where they will need it.

Recommendation for a multi-instance jquery dialog/overlay

Ok. had enough of trying out lightboxes, overlays and dialog boxes plugins. The problem is that very few of them support nested (multiple) dialog open at the same time - a typical requirement in my opinion.
I'm looking for a recommendation for a simple plugin that:
supports callsbacks for the usual onShow/onLoad... events
supports nested instances i.e. the user open a dialog, clicks a button on it, another dialog opens up while keeping the first one open in the background. In other words, it should support the closure of each instance programatically
is NOT the jquery ui dialog plugin
This came about after the big disappointment with SimpleModal's inability to support multiple modal boxes open simultaneously!!!! #EricM, why would you do that to me? why???? ;)
I have narrowed it down to jqModal and the jquery tools overlay. The usage of the latter is weird. Maybe i'm tired but i just don't get it.
So before i dive into jqModal, does anyone have any recommendation based on personal experience that will achieve what I'm trying to do?
thanks

Alternatives to Struts-Menu for Menus in Struts 2.X Application

Per user feedback, I am opening a new question for this topic.
So I am currently using Struts-Menu to handle my menu needs for my Struts 2 J2EE application. It is not necessarily a package I wish to work with I have found by playing around with it. So what are some alternatives to this package? I immediately flocked to Struts-Menu because I saw a fair amount of web search traffic pointing to it, including those who use Struts2. What I am worried about is difficulty in the future of making it work with other packages, given its 2007 last update and the extra tap dance I had do to make it work with my configuration. It seems too fragile at this point for my taste.
I have several different menus in my app, but the one I am specifically addressing at the present is like this ... The top level menu drops down upon mouse hover over it. The submenus expand horizontally upon mouse hover. Exactly one menu item can be selected as no radio buttons or check boxes are contained in the menu. This particular menu does not require db access to populate its children. It works sort of like Velocity CoolMenus4 from the Struts-Menu demos.
I've never used struts-menu, but it looks like overkill to me.
I would recommend that you locate a menu that you like and then write a tag file to handle outputting it in your view layer. To me, that's a lot easier than using a framework or library just to output a menu. Plus, its specific to the actual menu you want to use. Your tag can handle doing security checks to ensure that the user only sees what they have permission to access, etc.

Non-blocking Dialog box in Applescript

I have to write a small script to deploy a patch for our Application. The patch
will replace a couple of files in the application.I decided to depploy the patch using Applescript. The files to be copied are quite large and it takes some time for the files to be copied. I wanted to know if there is any way I can get a dialog box which doesn't block the execution of the script so that I can display some message like Updating.. etc while the patch is applied and then close the dialog box after wards.
Thanks

There's a scripting addition called Akua Sweets (oldy but goody) that has a display progress command. Get it at osaxen.com. it's in the 'most popular' section at the top of the page.
edit
Oh, bugger, that's only for OS9. It was really useful back in the day, I remember using it a lot (of course everything took a lot longer in those days so progress bars were more in demand).
another edit
You got me inspired, there's a couple of scripts I use that need progress bars, so I went looking and found this scripting addition at http://osaxen.com/files/extrasuites1.1.html
and again
here's a basic tutorial for how to do it in interface builder. I think that's probably the right way to do it.
I myself ran into the same problem. Unfortunately applescript doesn't provide an easy way of implementing a progress bar.
I ended up using the stop loop example found here to build an application. This guy has a bunch of applescript studio xcode projects to download and mess around with. It's some really great sample code if you aren't too familiar with applescript studio.
