I setup this domain's A-record to point to this tumblr:
emmaraviv.com :: timeoftstretched.tumblr.com
Which works fine, but www.emmaraviv.com does not.
In tumblr, I have the "custom domain" set to "emmaraviv.com". I don't see a way to specify multiples. i.e. "emmaraviv.com", "www.emmaraviv.com".
I added another A-record for www., point to the same IP (the one Tumblr tells you to use). But when you try to go to this records address specifically (www.emmaraviv.com.ryan-orourke.com -- it's under my primary domain on my host) it resolves to Tumblr, but not her site. Which makes me think the issue is with Tumblr not recognizeing this domain as one that should be pointing at timeoftstretched.tumblr.com.
Would love some ideas?
Thanks!!
On mine I did the following and it worked, on the DNS just setup:
# A 66.6.44.4
www A 66.6.44.4
Then both domain.com and www.domain.com both go to tumblr, in your Customize area just put www.domain.com as your domain, hopefully this should work.

I have a website setup at bryantmakesprog.10b3.com. I also own the domain sneaky.fish. I want my domain to point to this website by pointing to to the url, NOT the ip address. The end result being that visiting sneaky.fish/sample-page renders bryantmakesprog.10b3.com/sample-page but the URL says sneaky.fish/sample-page.
What would be the best way to go about this? I've seen some people have CNAMEs setup, but I'm not having any luck. Here's what I've tried:
To clarify, the domain must point to the subdomain. It is not sufficient to point to 10b3.com.
So there were two parts to this issue.
The first, the CNAMEs worked, it was just a matter of waiting.
The second issue was with the subdomain. sneaky.fish redirected to 10b3.com, and only bryantmakesprog.sneaky.fish would redirect to bryantmakesprog.10b3.com.
The solution for this was to use PHP to determine if a CNAME record exists pointing to bryantmakesprog.10b3.com and to handle that accordingly.
I want to redirect a subdomain of a domain I have on CloudFlare, to a Google Calendar (HTML/embed version).
I assumed I needed to use Page Rules to do this, which I have done by following CloudFlare’s documentation. However just following these instructions did not work for me. Apparently I need to add the subdomain to my DNS records on CloudFlare, but I don’t know how to set this up correctly since I have no server or IP to point it to (or I’m just confused as to why I need to even point it to something when I just want to forward a URL).
As mentioned I have no server to point it to – and thus can’t use a .htaccess solution – so don’t know what record type I should be using to use to just have the redirect working
I've had some success just using google.com as the CNAME record, then using a Page Rule to redirect everything on that domain. Because CloudFlare changes the DNS entry to its servers anyway (when you do the orange cloud thing) nobody will know.
I don't know if you could do that directly from cloudflare, but you can solve this using your hosting.
Point subdomain to your hosting server sub IN A 1.2.3.4 via cloudflare
Create sub.domain.com on you hosting
Place redirection script in index file in subdomain sub.domain.com document root:
<?php
header( "Location: http://docs.google.com/your-url-and-so-on" ) ;
?>
"subdomain to my DNS records on CloudFlare, but I don’t know how to set this up correctly since I have no server or IP to point it to"
This doesn't make much sense. A subdomain has to point to a record of some sort (A record or CNAME), so the subdomain wouldn't resolve without a record type of some sort. In order for a PageRule to work, two things have to happen:
The record has to be in your DNS settings.
The record has to have our proxy running over it.
It might be easier to figure out with the actual subdomain in question & what you're trying to forward to specifically.
So CloudFlare does support this through PageRules, you just need to get the URL correct.
I have many domains with different extensions, for example: website.com, website.net, website.org,...
the main site/domain is website.com where I have installed WORDPRESS
what I'm tring to do is to set all the others domain (website.net, website.org,..) to point on the main site/domain (website.com)
so, for example, if I go on "website.net" or "website.net/something" should I be redirect on website.com
I have cpanel so i guess that the first way is to add all the domains with the "addon domains" function, and then add in the wp-config.php:
define( 'NOBLOGREDIRECT', 'http://website.com' );
or another soluzion could probably be to simply park all the domains with cpanel function, or se the htaccess, but how?
what is the best solution in this case?
PS: the main website is in a subfolder (not root)
Just do a DNS forward and be done with it. Go to your DNS provider and just setup domain forwarding to your main domain name.
Forward website.net and website.org to website.com. When anyone goes to website.net it will redirect to website.com and same with .org. The domains will need to be parked.
If you host your DNS at a registrar like GoDaddy, then this will show you how.
http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/422/forwarding-or-masking-your-domain-name
Otherwise, the procedure is the same wherever your DNS is hosted. I suggest forwarding it without masking.
I'm trying to connect my Tumblr with my custom domain - currently I have no A records, just two CNAME records:
*.mydomain.com -- domains.tumblr.com
www.mydomain.com -- domains.tumblr.com
My Tumblr is set up to connect to www.mydomain.com and currently it works correctly when I access it via www.mydomain.com; however, I need to make the http://mydomain.com address also work. I have no idea how to do this.
the official tumblr document as of writing says do an A record for the mydomain.com to the Tumblr IP, OR use a CNAME if it is www.mydomain.com you want to use to domains.tumblr.com. http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains
I think you can do both also but not tried this yet. (Seen referenced in other posts on SO).
Add a CNAME record for the second-level domain as well:
mydomain.com -- domains.tumblr.com
The version *.mydomain.com would affect only domains like foo.mydomain.com and bar.mydomain.com, not the second-level domain itself.
I have purchased My Domain name from one registrar & hosted in another hosting company.
I have created a sub domain from my hosting domain manager lie http://subdomain.domain.com and it works fine. But when someone types in www.subdomain.domain.com the site is not working.
Do I need to make changes in my DNS Manager of hosting CPanel or DNS Manager of my Domain CPanel?
Also What all Records I need to add ( like A Record or CNAME) to redirect www.subdomain.domain.com to subdomain.domain.com.
I don't want to see www for my subdomain, but only wants to get redirected to subdomain.domain.com.
It doesn't work because www.subdomain.domain.com doesn't exist. You have to add a CNAME record in your zone subdomain.domain.com the same way you've added the host subdomain to domain.com.
You need to register that subdomin too.
Yes - www.subdomain.domain.com is a subdomin of subdomain.domain.com. There is nothing special about the www prefix, as far as the domain system or browsers are concerned.
This helped me out. I hope it helps anyone going through the same thing.
Yes, as you said CNAME record www for customer1.mysite.com will report an error.
To make it working, you should be able to add CNAME record www.customer1 for mysite.com instead of www for customer1.mysite.com - xMudrii https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/how-to-configure-subdomains-to-use-www-and-non-www
Create CNAME as sub.domain.
Point to # where sub.domain is your subdomain name and maindomain name.
If you want to add "www" in the subdomain then create the same configuration subdomain and add "www" in that domain.
you required to add both domains name www.subdomain.domain.com and subdomain.domain.com
Say you have a website www.example.com and you want to have a working link like www.service.example.com, then you need to enter the subdomain name www.service (and not service) while setting up the sub-domain.
Preferably set up both sub-domains i.e. www.service and service for users who type in www.service.example.com and service.example.com on their browsers.
