Sharepoint: Problem with search refinement when values contain spaces - sharepoint

I have a search people search page that makes use of RefineSearchResults where I can define which field I want the search refined by. This is setup and works to some extent, but I am experiencing problems whenever the column contains values with spaces in it.
Say I wanted to refine the search by OfficeNumber (from AD, not really a number) and I choose to refine the search by "Main" it works just fine, I only get people who have that OfficeNumber. However, if I try to refine the search by "Next door" I get no results and in the search box it shows: officenumber:Next door, which seems to indicate that it searches by Next instead of Next door, but I can't make any group markers such as " stick - it's gone when I hit enter.
Is there any way to fix this so that it can refine the search by values with spaces in them?

Are there any negative consequences of giving ‘Title’ field a default value of ‘View’ and making it a hidden field?

When I create a list, I have gotten into the habit of doing the following:
Change Title field name to Item
Give it the default value of View
Go to Advanced Settings
Allow management of content types > Yes
Click Save
Then in Settings, click on the Item type
Then click on the Item field and select Hidden
Then go back to Advanced Settings
Allow management of content types > No
Click Save
The result of this is that:
The Title field (now called Item) is hidden in the form
I have a column called Item, which has the link View in each row (which opens up the item)
I can’t remember why I started doing this (possibly one of the reasons outlined in this video), but the use case must have demanded it and I just kept doing it.
However, lately I have been having troubling thoughts about whether it negatively effects indexing or has any other undesired outcomes.
For example, I did a search in a list the other today, and in the drop down search results that were displayed, I just got multiple rows of the value View.
I also read just before posting this question that list items in the recycle bin will be identified by the value that was in the Title column. So if they all say View it will be impossible to differentiate one from the other.
So I just thought I would see if there is any authoritative, definitive best practice around the Title column, and ask if my convention is bad and if so what I should replace it with.
Thank You.
(Edit: I also hide the Title column in document libraries, as it doesn’t seem to serve a purpose, as clicking on the value in the Name column opens up the document anyway - therefore the ‘link’ action of the Title field is not required).

intelliJ -> is there any way to scope your search to be within a function

Very often while coding, I need to search for keywords which are common and happen throughout a large file, but I am looking for an instance within a function.
The default search functionality often gives me all results starting from the top. Is there any way/workflow to search only within a specific method/function or block of code?
Update
Do Ctrl + F
Then Ctrl + Alt + E
Type the text to search
On MacOS, it's cmd instead of Ctrl
Original Post
You can do it like this (mentioned keymaps are for Linux):
Let's take as an example the following code, where we will be searching for the word "key" inside the method "clear". As you can see there are many occurrences of that word (in red, highlighted the ones we want in our results, and in blue other occurrences, which we do not want to appear in our search results)
1- Select the area you want to limit the search scope to.
2- Press Ctrl+Shift+F. It will pop up a search window with the selected text pre-filled in the search box.
3- Select the options "Scope" and, in the combo next to it, "Selection" (if they are not selected by default)
4- Type the word(s) you want to search (in this example, the key word).
5- The results shown will be limited to the selected area. Notice how there are only 9 matches in the upper right corner ("Match case" option is checked), despite in the same file there are many other occurrences of the same word.
However, I was neither able to find a key combination in order to do this as a single action nor assign a new one. Also, notice how the search includes the text in the method documentation.
Tested using IntelliJ IDEA 2018.1.4 (Ultimate Edition), Build #IU-181.5087.20 on Ubuntu 18.04
Looks like we're finally getting this feature in IDEA 2019.3:
https://blog.jetbrains.com/idea/2019/09/whats-new-in-intellij-idea-2019-3-eap-2/ (Ctrl-F for subtitle "Ability to search in a selected area when using the Find action")
It’s now possible to search only in a selected area using the Find action (cmd+F / Ctrl +F). Simply select the code piece you need in the editor and invoke the Find action and the IDE will perform the search only in the selected area.

There is a way to search inside a method, however, it doesn't seem to work for other scopes.
When searching in file as usual, click "Find all"
You'll get a list of results in the bottom panel. If you enable "Group by file structure" (I had it disabled by default), you can get a list of matches for a particular method.
On IntelliJ in Mac:
In a file select the specific block in which we want to find
something
Press CMD + F
Press CTRL + OPTION + G
Notice that the cursor has automatically landed in the find toolbar's text field
Type in what is intended to be found
Press enter to move the cursor
to the first occurrence.

Seadragon(seajax) open specific filterbox after search

In my website i use the seajax pivot viewer to view a large amount of images. So to not search endlessly long for the picture i need i usually use the search box in the view to filter on a specific property of my collection. Now when i press enter it works perfectly and it filters my collection. I could however be possible that multiple properties have the same value so to further filter my search i use the filters beneath the search box. This also works fine.
Now for my question: Is it possible to open such a filterbox after i press enter, so that the specific values for a certain property are shown?
I already took a look at it and i belief that i need to do it in the pivot viewer js, however i cannot find the right way to do it. I could not find anything on stackoverflow about it.
Thank you in advance.

Highlight multiple search results in jqGrid tree

I have a tree Grid where I want to provide for a Search facility and highlight the results in a tree. I looked at the link How to search for a row and then select it in jqGrid? and the same works fine.
However my Grid is a tree and as mentioned in the link Selecting multiple rows in jqGrid tree, MultiSelect:true option does not work. Hence when I search for a pattern, only the last row with the matching pattern is highlighted. I want to know how to highlight all the rows with the matching pattern.
The solution provided in the link Access jqgrid elements using a javascript suggests providing checkboxes to get a list of selected rows, but my requirement is to highlight the rows which satisfy the search result.
If this description is not sufficient, I will provide for my jqgrid definition, but I thought this is a generic issue and hence am currently not pasting the same.
Thanks much in advance
I changed the background color of the rows that match the search pattern and that served my purpose. Another link that helped me is - jQuery Highlight Effect with no fade away
If you have the id's of the rows that have matches..
You can do..
//matchingRowIds
$.each(matchingRowIds, function(rowId, _){
grid.setSelection(rowId); //or however it is that you're selecting the row
});
Note: Do not call resetSelection() whilst calling setSelection()

Does comma seperated list in a search box indicate ALL or ANY?

We have a reporting web site and in the search screen most of the fields are comboboxes. We then AND all the fields together to get a filtered list of records. For example if i chose NY in the City dropdown and priority 1 in the priority dropdown and sales in the team dropdown, it would general something that looked like this (pseudo SQL)
Show me all record where City = 'NY' AND Priotity = '1' AND Team = 'Sales'
We now just added tagging to our records so to support searching by tag(s), we added an additional textbox to search by TAG where you can entered a comma seperated list.
Right now this is an autocomplete textbox which supports multiple entries.(similar to the Multiple Cities (local) example on this page.
When we rolled it out people had different expectation on how search would work when you entered multiple items in the text box. Would it:
Do an AND and only return records that had ALL of the tags listed.
Do an OR and return records that has ANY of the tags listed.
It turns out that we rolled out #1 but many people expected #2. Is this just basically preference or is there a default standard here in this example. Our only solution right now is to add a radio button next to the textbox to say ALL or ANY
If your users expect it to work one way then that's the way it should work.
This is a great example of why you should test early and often with actual users.
I'd say it is not basically preference, but expectations based on what users experience in other types of searches. The "OR" was probably expected by your users as use of tagging gets pretty close to being like a search engine searching on any word in a text and most search engines do an "OR" and then order the results according to how many terms (tags) were "hit".
If going all the way supporting AND and OR operators is not feasible right now, then I would indeed offer an "All" versus "Any" radio button and default it to "Any".
