Default configurations on localhost servers are almost the same as the configurations hosting-companies offer.

Just google, back-up is always possible.. hosting-companies gives 90% of the time a tool in the controlpanel to backup your website.
Always test on localhost then apply on the webserver and watch the results.

I have created a windows servcice, but how do I host it on my web hosting? Running exe files is forbidden, as well as SSH.

As far as I have found out, it's often impossible to run a windows service on a web hosting, like in my case. One of the possible workarounds in hosting a background process in the website process, specifically by utilizing things like hangfire.io

Yes, you can do this, using an advanced IDE.
For example a free and powerful one is NetBeans.
Essentially you need an FTP server on your host machine, then in NB you need to create a new project from external source, set up your FTP connection and that's about it, now every time you hit that ctrl+s, changes will be saved on your server as well.
What you're asking about is called continuous delivery. Jenkins is a popular tool that can automatically test and deploy anything you save (or commit to svn or git).
I'm learning to use the open source version of OpenShift. I have downloaded the linux image and started it on a virtual machine (named VM1) on my PC, which runs Windows 7. On another VM (named VM2) I have installed another linux OS and configured the JBoss IDE to work with OpenShift. Then I have successfully created and hosted an app on my local OpenShift PaaS cloud. Here is where the problem starts:
On VM2 (the one running linux where I developed the app) I have no problem accessing my account webpage on OpenShift, viewing what apps I have created and testing them.
From any other PC on my network I can log in to the OpenShift web console and view my apps by simply entering the IP of VM1 (in my case 192.168.1.107). There I can see the URL to launch my app: http://localtest2-mydomain.openshift.local/ . But when I click on it, I get a message saying that the web page is not available. Again, if I use this link in VM2, it works like a charm.
I tried changing the system32\drivers\etc\hosts file so that and link ending in openshift.local will be sent to the IP address of VM1, but it doesn't work. Can anyone help me?
As far as I know, you can not use wildcards in your hosts file, you would need to specify the entire url in your hosts file for it to find it correctly. Give that a try and see if it helps.
I am currently setting up a development machine at my company and I would like to be able to set up a few local sites on this one machine for testing. In order to do so, I am running the following software:
ColdFusion Server 10 (Developer's Edition)
IIS
Everything is installed and I am able to run the default site (from localhost) but I can't figure out, nor can I find how I can set up other sites on this system. I have the files for each site on the local machine. Ideally, I would like to be able to call up each site using a subdomain, such as (http://site1.domain.com, http://site2.domain.com, http://site3.domain.com) where each one points to a separate file base on the local machine.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Create the sites in IIS for each site, pointing to its respective web root. Then run the web server configuration tool to hook up the connectors for the sites.
You can find that under {ColdFusion root}/cfusion/runtime/bin/wsconfig.exe (on windows - not sure of the file extension on non-windows machines)
From there you can run the connector for each individual site or you can set it to run the connector for every site.

Install a webserver somewhere on your local network (this could be the one you have been using for testing if you don't want to have separate development and live environments … although that usually isn't a good idea).
Publish the site to that webserver (in the same way you are doing for your development server).
Give out the URL to the site
