I have the following htaccess to allow for no file extensions in the url:
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php
My problem is that i have both a file called images.php and a folder called images, so when i use the url: .com/images - it takes me to the images folder, where as: .com/contact - takes me to the correct page.
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
With these 2 lines, you say if the test string (in your case 'images') is not a directory and is not a file, rewrite it to images.php. Now, since you have images directory, the second rule is not satisfied and images is rewriten to images.php internaly.
Either change the name of the folder, change the name of the script, or change the .htaccess rules and conditions.
I think if you add before your rule this rule suppose to work ...(but I didn't test it)
RewriteRule ^images/(.*)$ images/$1.php [L]
As Tim Stone suggested, removing the RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d line will fix the problem.
Your rules should then look as follows:
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php

It is quite popular question, but there is some distinction in my case that makes all more difficult.
Apache2 web server, Yii2 framework with prettyUrl turned on.
Here is initial .htaccess file, provided by Yii2:
RewriteEngine on
# if a directory or a file exists, use it directly
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# otherwise forward it to index.php
RewriteRule . index.php
There is /docs web directory. And I would like to get files from it if they are exist and redirect to /docs-generator/create?file=<file_name> if the file doesn't exists.
So, I have added a rule:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/docs
RewriteRule ^docs/([\w-_.]+) http://kz_proj.test/docs-generator/create?file=$1 [L]
# if a directory or a file exists, use it directly
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# otherwise forward it to index.php
RewriteRule . index.php
It's works but quite strange... First of all, I can't remove my test hostname from http://kz_proj.test/docs-generator/create?file=$1. It doesn't work without full name. The second one is about ^/docs and ^docs/([\w-_.]+) without the leading character. Why first part of these rules can't be the same in my case?
I guess something wrong with the rules...
You can use:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^docs/([\w-_.]+) /docs-generator/create?file=$1 [L,R=301]
# if a directory or a file exists, use it directly
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
# otherwise forward it to index.php
RewriteRule ^ index.php
It works with the domain name because it is necessarily a redirect in this case, but not without. I added [R=301] to force the redirection.
No need to add RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/docs
because the test is the same with RewriteRule ^docs
And why first part of these rules can't be the same in your case ?
REQUEST_URI always start with a /
and RewriteRule test path never start with a / in .htaccess (why????)
I have this .htaccess in my root folder:
root:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [NC,L]
So that incoming GET requests come through http://www.example.com/somethingsomething instead of ?page=somethingsomething. That's all fine.
However, in the root folder I have another folder named /i. Id like this one to handle another type of request, which looks like this: http://www.example.com/i/somethingsomething with the ending actually meaning http://www.example.com/i/index.php?img=somethingsomething. Problem is that the .htaccess in the root folder is still in use. What I need is the following:
/i:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?img=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [NC,L]
, but somehow exclude the .htaccess in the root folder.
Is this possible?
EDIT:
Tried what I found on this site, for instance using RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(i) and similar in the root .htaccess.
Yes, you can do it like this, using a single rule in the root .htaccess. The root .htaccess is always going to get processed, so you might as well do it there with one rule. Otherwise it would be more complicated and the root would need modifying with an exception for /i anyway.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(?:i/)?index\.php$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(i/)?(.*)$ /$1index.php?img=$2 [QSA,NC,L]
Using the [QSA] flag which is a better way to pass on any existing query string. RewriteBase is not needed. You perhaps don't need the directory check and it would be better for performance without it. The index.php check is there to improve performance by avoiding another file-system check after a successful rewrite.
Update
Sorry, I hadn't noticed that the parameter you are passing to index.php has a different name in the second case. These rules in root should work for you:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=/index.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/i/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?page=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(?:i/)?index\.php$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^i/(.*)$ /i/index.php?img=$1 [QSA,NC,L]
Hello guys can you help me how set proper url in codeigniter using multiple applications and i proper .htaccess
Folder Structure
-application
-api
-cms
-system
-api.php
-cms.php
Its works when a use this
http://localhost/kitkat_funs/cms.php/
http://localhost/kitkat_funs/api.php/
But i want this
http://localhost/kitkat_funs/cms/
http://localhost/kitkat_funs/api/
My htaccess
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -s [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L]
RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L]
Please try following steps:
In config=>config.php, replace like following.
$config['index_page'] = 'index.php';
to
$config['index_page'] = '';
Please put following code into your .htaccess file, this might help you to achieve the result.
write your project folder name as rewritebase
RewriteBase /yourprojname/
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/system.*
RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php?/$1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.+) index.php?/$1 [L]
*take backup of your .htaccess file.
This problem appear when you working with Codeigniter using Multiple application(and multiple index_appname.php. Ofcourse you can add new line in .htaccess everytime you add another application but that is not convenience.
The solution is using basic Regular Expression. You need to write 2 section, one is for address without slash, and the other with more than one slash after index file
Note: in this case the index.php file has prefix "index_" following with app name
# If the user types without trailing slash example www.host.com/kitkat_funs/appname
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(\w*)$ index_$1\.php [L,QSA]
# If the user enter in any system section with slash example www.host.com/kitkat_funs/appname/page/etc
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)\/(.*)$ index_$2\.php/$1 [L,QSA]
Everytime user enter address right after domain name, for example www.host.com/kitkatname/cms
.htaccess will automatically redirect to www.host.com/kitkatname/cms.php
now you can get rid .php extension on your index file
In my app, I have the srcs of many images like this:
path/other-path/my-image.jpg
This can get long and can expose some of my file structure to the outside world.
What can I do in .htaccess to redirect a given file extension to a directory?
i.e. my image src is simply "my-image.jpg", .htaccess sees that is a .jpg file and redirects to the folder "www.site.com/my-jpgs/" were "my-image.jpg" resides, thus loading the image.
Here is what I have at the moment:
Options +FollowSymLinks
IndexIgnore */*
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/importers
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.(gif|jpg|png)$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public_html/index.php
RewriteBase /
# Ignore rule if the real path exists, use that instead.
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
# Only use the filename and extension.
RewriteRule (.[^/]*)\.(gif|jpg|png) public_html/images$1.$2 [R,L]
I've sort of got it working, except the browser makes two requests that look like this:
Request URL:http://www.view.com/activity/enquiry/dropdown-btn.gif
Request URL:http://www.view.com/public_html/images/dropdown-btn.gif
The second being correct, how do I correct this so it doesn't make the first incorrect request?
Ordering of rewrite rules is very important in .htaccess. Your problem is incorrect ordering of your rule. You need to move last rule to the top just belowRewriteEngine Online to have external redirect before sending everything off toindex.php`:
Options +FollowSymLinks
IndexIgnore */*
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# Ignore rule if the real path exists, use that instead.
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
# Only use the filename and extension.
RewriteRule ^(?:[^/]+/)*([^.]+\.(?:gif|jpe?g|png))$ images/$1 [R,L,NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/importers
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.(gif|jpe?g|png)$
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
I have WAMP installed, and a project at in E:/wamp/www/project/index.php Links from index.php redirect to show.php I am using the below .htaccess script to be able to make URL in show.php appear as /article-title instead of what it normally does i.e show.php?id=xxx
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule (.*)$ show.php?id=$1 [QSA,L]
But, the above .htaccess file which is found in project/ along side the index/show page does not seem to work. It does not even show me the project folder, when I go to www/
I don't know where the problem is, and rewrite-module is on
Given that your article URL is like this:
http://localhost/project/1122-some-title-comes-here
You can use this rule:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule ^project/(\d+)-([\w-]+)/?$ /project/show.php?id=$1 [QSA,L]
If you want your articles from the root folder like this:
http://localhost/1122-some-title-comes-here
You can change the above to:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteRule ^(\d+)-([\w-]+)/?$ /project/show.php?id=$1 [QSA,L]
The above conditions means, if folder, files and symbolic links are false, rewrite it.
The rule itself ^(\d+)-([\w-]+)/?$ if it start with digits and a dash and contains additional alphanumeric characters and dash and end or not with / internally redirect to:
/project/show.php?id=$1
The $1 means to pass the result of the parenthesis from the rule to the id which is (\d+) which in our URL example would mean the number 1122.
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_rewrite.html
"The RewriteBase directive specifies the URL prefix to be used for per-directory (htaccess) RewriteRule directives that substitute a relative path."
