I've lost the toolbar on my DataFormWebPart that has the dropdown boxes that apply a filter to the data - but I can't see a Filter checkbox in the Properties dialog.
How do I get it back?
It appears that I should never have had it in the first place, it's not normally available when binding a DataFormWebPart to a database datasource. By some odd combination of circumstances Sharepoint Designer enabled it for me for just long enough to tease me into thinking it would work.

I'm a traditional domino developer just beginning XPages. I'm working on modifying the standard 8.5.3 Domino discussion database. I've added some fields on the Main Topic and response forms, one called category. I've added a categorised column in the ($xpAllDocuments) view to the left of "Topic" for the category field. This works fine in Notes as you'd expect, but when the view is rendered in the All Documents xpage, the category twiste displays without any label. I'm not sure how to modify the column data for the xpage, as it seems to use a repeat? instead of a view?
Any help greatly appreciated, and apologies for the presumably basic enquiry!
You have to add the categories column to custom control allDocumentsView which renders the view for browser.
How to find out where to set the new categorized column? A good way is to look at the "All properties" of a certain element. For that, open the Source pane of custom control allDocumentsView, position cursor on <xe:dataView and look at "All Properties". If you hover over the properties' labels you get a helper window with a short explanation.
In your case, property categoryColumn is what you are looking for. Assuming you added a categorized column Categories to view ($xpAllDocuments) then you would have to put into property categoryColumn:
With that, your source code gets expanded by
<xe:this.categoryColumn>
<xe:viewCategoryColumn
columnName="Categories"
columnTitle="Categories">
</xe:viewCategoryColumn>
</xe:this.categoryColumn>
and you will see the added categorized column in your rendered XPage.
I don't know the discussion template in detail, but when the All Documents Xpage is using a repeat control, then you cannot expect an automatic category expand/collapse feature as in a Notes view.
If you want that, you need a View control on the Xpage.
I have two connected DataFormWebparts on a site page, with one web part filtering the data in the other, and this works fine as long as the design style allows the options to be clicked on i.e. the information is laid out in text format.
However If I change the style to be a drop down list then the filtering no longer works. I'm assuming this is because there is no longer a hyperlink to trigger off the event, but is there a way to make it work in this format?
jquery to the rescue. hide the links. show the dropdown and with jquery or javascript, trigger the link click on dropdown index change. try to google out. hope these hints help
faced same issue. i did this as i had less time
I want to be able to filter a SharePoint list based on the values present (easy by clicking the filter button at the top of the list for each column). However I'd like to give options in a drop down menu and once chosen the list would be refilted based on the options I give. Is this possibile to do in the browser or would it require designer or actual code? Thank you.
This is all SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Server knowledge; I've never used 2007.
What #Ryan is alluding to here is that you can click a down-arrow on most list columns to filter them. One caveat is that if the column is multi-select, it won't display a drop-down. (SharePoint doesn't know how to group, filter, or sort on multi-select columns.) Another caveat could be that if you're displaying the list items in such a way that their headings don't appear (such as in a List View web part, or maybe in some of the styles...) you obviously won't be able to filter.
A solution might be to use a "SharePoint List Filter" web part, which uses a list column as the source for filter values which can then be sent to other web parts -- such as a List View web part. Presumably, you could use the list you're intending to filter as a source for the Filter web part itself. From a UX perspective maybe this might help you display the list with different styling, but still get the drop-down filter directly in the content area.
A caveat with the "SharePoint List Filter" web part is that it's not actually a drop-down per se, but instead shows a little filter icon that pops up a dialog in which users then have to select a value.
Note there's also the "Managed Metadata Navigation" feature that would give users dropdowns (for e.g. choice columns) and metadata filter fields (for managed metadata columns). These show up in the Quick Launch (left-nav area) if configured on the list/library settings. The feature must first be enabled on the site.
In SharePoint 2010, the default current view dropdown box(Library Tools-->Library-->All Documents) doesn't display items in an alphatical order. So if we want to disply the items in alphatical order, i think we have the following two options.
Option 1: Customizing the ribbon control
Option 2: writing javascript file to sort the dropdown item lists and intergrating with ribbon control
Is there any other better option?
Modifying the View doesn't help? In SPS 3.0, in the Document Library, you can click view in the upper right corner, then edit the options in there. By default, ours sorts the Library based on the name of the file
Can any one tell me that, Is is possible in wss to have our custom column in a view of list. The way how we are adding edit and delete column in asp.net grid by setting autogenerateedit button property to true. I have to write my custom login on click event of that button. This action is going to be common for all list items.
Thanks

I am afraid that it is not possible out of the Box in SharePoint (WSS / MOSS). If you want to have such an option, you might need to create a Separate page that will have code to do the opertion. Try out the SPGridView and SPDataSource.
Else I would suggest (Recommend) you to have a look at the DataSheetView option provided by the List, it will list List item details as all editable format, like Excel sheet.
