I want to show the hotkeys for label, button on screen without pressing Alt Key. For example
Alt + N opens new dialog where N is hot key so I want underline always appears below N.
I am not sure how we can achieve this without Pressing alt key. After pressing Alt Key hot key is shown but we want to show the corresponding hot key all the time till the screen is open.
I answered in this nearly identical question that
If you have any control over the operating system on which the program is being deployed, apparently you can force the underlined shortcut letter to always be displayed by going to Control Panel -> Display -> Appearance -> Effects -> Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation.
If you can't do that, some of the other answers mentioned using a System.Windows.Forms.SendKeys class.

My platform is Linux, and there is a shortcut Alt + Left Shift + Num Lock to enable mouse keys TEMPORARILY. They say this feature is provided by X server, so it can be used on all desktop environments based on X. The problem is that the effect doesn't last long. The keypad will switch back to normal keypad automatically, and cannot be used to emulate a mouse. Therefore, whenever I want to move the cursor, the result may become scrolling to the bottom of the current document, which is annoying. Is there any way to prevent X from switching the keypad back to its original keypad function automatically? Thanks.
I am looking for a way to allow a user to complete a Dialog entry using keyboard shortcuts. Is this possible?
Other questions have discussed assigning shortcuts to the options in an AppleScript dialog box, but not to the "Continue"/"Okay" etc. button.
The main difficulty is that I'm using a multi-line text entry form, so the Enter button simply creates a new line, instead of targeting the default button as it would conventionally. I'm hoping cmdenter can be assigned to the default button instead.
The line of script defining the dialog in question is:
set theResponse to display dialog "Enter tasks:" default answer "
" buttons {"Cancel", "Continue"} default button "Continue"
Running your AppleScript code from Script Editor on a US English MacBook Pro, whether or not something is typed in, fnenter presses the Continue button.
The same keyboard shortcut works on an US English Apple Magic Keyboard when connected to the MacBook Pro and I'd assume any US English Mac it was connected to would do the same. I only have the MacBook Pro to test with at the moment.
In macOS, by default, pressing the tab key in this use case will not move between the controls as the controlling setting in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts is not set to allow it to act on all controls.
You must select one of the following options, depending on the version of macOS one is running, in order to use the tab key on all controls.
If you see:
Full Keyboard Access: In windows and dialogs, press Tab to move keyboard focus between:
(•) Text boxed and lists only
( ) All Controls
Select: (•) All Controls
If you see:
[] Use keyboard navigation to move between controls
Press the Tab key to move focus forward and Shift Tab to move focus backward.
Check: [√] Use keyboard navigation to move between controls
With this done, one can then use tabtabenter to press the continue button, with the dialog box produced by the code shown in the OP.
Side Note: One can also try fncommandenter as that was necessary from within a VMware macOS Catalina virtual machine that I also tested in.
⌘-Enter (on the numeric keypad) presses Continue
If you are in a multiline text field, hit the Tab key so that focus is on some element other than the text field. Then the Enter key should route properly to the dialog's default close button.
I want to change the default shorcuts for some touchpad events and key combinations, for example swiping left or right with three fingers for switching workspaces, using Super + K for opening the terminal and so on. What can I do?
Thanks!
click on
shutdown button --> system setting --> keyboard-->shortcut
, choose one element from the left list then modify what you want
currently when I hit ctrl and press mouse btn on type I got to type for example to interace , how can I change it to go to implementation ? I tried by tools, keyboard but can't change it key to ctrl + Left click.
You can't rebind the action that happens on ctrl+click. However, pressing alt+ctrl+click, you'll go to implementation. And ctrl+shift+click will open the result in the Peek Definition window.
Using the compare plugin in Notepad++ splits the screen between the two files being compared. Is there a fast way to revert the screen to have all of the tabs again in a single window, as is the default view upon opening the application?
Right click on the tab and the choose "Move to Other View"
This works for me on npp v6.6.9
I believe this would be Ctrl + Alt + d.
To get to the split script use Alt + d.
See under Plugins -> Compare.
You can drag all the files from one side to the other side. This will close the window that was left empty.
Ctrl + Alt + D will clear the comparison results.
If the split screen remains after clearing the comparison results, this is likely due to still having files open within each of the two split-screened-windows.
To resolve this, close the open files or move them from one of the two split screen windows to the other. Moving them can be done via drag and drop or by right-clicking on the file's tab and choosing 'move to other window". When the last file is moved or closed the split screen will disappear.
Under the plugins>Compare>Clear Results is where you will find a clickable menu option to do it aprt from the keyboard shortcut.
For "Clear Active Compare" - ctrl + Alt + X
For "Clear All Compares" - ctrl + Alt + Shift + X
If you have disabled the Tab bar (Settings | Preferences | General | Tab bar | [x] Hide) and use Document List / Switcher (Settings | Preferences | General | Document List Panel | [x] Show), what you need to do is to first close all the documents open in the clone/split view. Once all files open in that have been closed, the split view will also close automatically.
Now, unfortunately there is no way(?) to tell what you have open in the split view and the main view. You'll just have to click on the right side split, and keep pressing Ctrl + W until the split view goes away. I guess you could also enable Tab bar for this occasion.
Plugins--> Compare--> Clear Results
You used Ctrl + Alt + Shift + x and it does not help? Then try this if you use the Document List Panel (Settings > Preferences > General > Document List Panel > [x] Show) instead of the Tab bar (Settings > Preferences > General > Tab bar > [x] Hide), you should move all the files on the side with less files to the other view.
Find out which side has less files open by opening the Window menu once on both sides.
To move a file from one view to the other use View > Move/Clone Current Document > Move to other view or Alt + v m Enter
Still in split view? Switch focus back to the other side using F8 and go to step 2.
Once all files on one side have been moved, the split view will disappear automatically.
PS. I know the question was about "tabs". However I regard the Document List as a better variant of "tabs".
