I want to develop an application for Nokia 3120. It is said that the developer platform is "Series 40 Developer Platform 1.0" but from the "Series 40 Platform SDKs" page, no SDK Series 40 for Platform 1.0 is available, I can just see Series 40, Developer Platform 2.0 and so on.
Can I develop an application that will run on Nokia 3120 using the Series 40, Developer Platform 2.0 or 3.0?
Basically your best, if not only, option is Java ME MIDP. You can program your MIDlets with later versions of the Series 40 SDK; just remember not to use any APIs that are not available on the Nokia 3120. The APIs section of the document you linked to lists only the basic MIDP/CLDC/Nokia UI APIs:
JSR 30 Connected, Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 1.0
JSR 37 MIDP 1.0
Nokia UI API

I’m working on an app which is required to run on multiple different platforms. The original code is written in J2ME (Java ME).
The documentation online regarding using J2ME Polish for targeting multiple platforms is scarce and difficult to follow.
Can anyone here offer advice on targeting these 3 platforms using one code base? I’m currently using NetBeans 7.3 + the J2ME Polish plugin.
I’d ideally like to support:
Android 2.1+
BlackBerry OS 5.0+
J2ME/Java ME devices
I'm new to mobile development.
I want to know the developing sites for Symbian OS Nokia development?
I'm working in eclipse pulsar,In J2ME language. Then how to develop the Application
on S605th edition?
Download java wireless toolkit and configure with Eclipse Pulsar. Symbian 5th edition mobiles mostly Touch enabled mobiles. Look at Nokia Developer Documentation for your reference.
FYI: You can use LWUIT framework. LWUIT provides swing like features and touch enabled by default.
To continue in my post-XCode 4 upgrade confusion, i came across this....
My Build Settings has Base SDK as iOS 4.3.
Now back in XCode 3.x days I remember 2 things:
The Base SDK was always set to iOS 4.0.
The target device was set to iphone 3.0 (to ensure greatest iphone audience).
What consequence is there for this Base SDK?
I mean, if SDK 4.0 provides support for features that only iOS4/iPhone4) provides, then why are these two separate build settings?
You can choose iOS 4.0 as your base SDK, but as long as you do not use APi's that are 4.0 and up your code should run on 3.x unless you used apis that were only in 3.2 and so on =)
Always a good thing to check the availability of methods when you look in the class reference.
I recommend using 4.x stuff.. because the people that use 3.0 are not worth supporting ( Only the really old devices are still running that, iPhone 1 -- most users have upgraded by now to an iPhone 3Gs or 4 ), the features you get in 4.x, including GCD are awesome.
I am a J2SE Java developer, and i am currently trying to learn Java mobile development to create mobile applications. I have a couple of startup questions please :
Do i have to install JDK 6.0 or above, or only a J2ME SDK is quite enough ? (I don't know if the JDK includes J2ME API or not).
I have seen other Java mobile SDKs like Metismo and AlcheMo that still allow me to write Java coded mobile applications, so are these better than the J2ME SDK or there are better options ?
I will use Eclipse Pulsar + J2ME SDK in development. Do i need anything else ? And is this developing environment suitable to write Java coded mobile applications to run on most mobile types or there are better options ?
For the Emulator does J2ME SDK include an emulator ? I have seen a Free emulator called Micro Emulator so is this suitable, or there are better choices ?
If you have any advices / Tutorials for me before i start learning the language and coding my applications that would be very nice.
I suggest Netbeans better for mobile development. Even you can use Eclipse pulsar also. Netbeans already having sun java SDK. you can download the Emulator from following sites,
Sprint SDK
Sony Ericsson SDK
Samsung SDK
Motorola SDK
Nokia SDK

It's been while for release of MIDP 3.0 spec. But is there any device which supports this specifications ?
I don't believe there are any commercially-available MIDP 3.0 phones available yet. The Java ME benchmark list only shows MIDP 2.1 as the highest supported version. Even Motorola, the spec lead, does not list any MIDP 3.0 phones, nor does Nokia.
Samsung galaxy pro b7510 support MIDP 3.0.Refer the link

Some of android phones support MIDP 3.0
