I have a legacy project which has all the source files, templates, properties written in cp1250 encoding. (Windows 1250 - central european). Recently I switched from Windows to Ubuntu and found out, that fresh installation of Eclipse 3.5 doesn't have cp1250 in neither project properties nor workspace settings. How do I install new encoding to be recognised by Eclipse?
Now that's just typical, a minute later I send the question I find out that the drop-down menu can be also edited, so it's just simply matter of writing cp1250 in there, hitting OK and voila, problem solved. Eclipse even rerenders opened editors to show applied encoding right away. Problem solved.

This is more of a helpful tip/warning than a question. For someone else that might attempt what I did. Android Studio Dolphin (Not sure about other versions) on Mac and also Windows is stuck on Startup Screen after I installed 5 plugins for CSV support at the same time (Rainbow CSV, Cap-Hadoop, ExcelEditor, ExcelReader, and CSV).
Below is the image of the issue
enter image description here
If anyone has a solution that will be awesome.
I just encountered the same issue today, I was able to fix it by deleting those plugins from the app's data roaming folder, you can access them by typing %APPDATA% in the "Run" app (Windows Key + R) or directly in the folder explorer.
Once there, Google -> AndroidStudio2021.3 (or whatever version you are using) -> Plugins.
EDIT: Mac equivalent is User/Library/Application Support/Google/"version of Android Studio"/plugins
Library might be hidden in User folder so Shift+Command+. to show it
(thanks to TwistenTiger)
Hope it helps!
I've installed eclipse Mars.1 Release (4.5.1), and than i've installed spring plugin as i always do with a new linux installation (by the way i am running Manjaro Linux 15.09 fully updated with KDE) but this time i am facing a problem i have never seen before!
Everytime i go to the preferences window, the right pane won't update according to the selected option.
Ex: when i open the preferences window, if i try to drill down the "General" option, the right pane won't update, no matter what i choose in the left pane!
Can anyone help?
I had the same problem. The reason was because Eclipse didn't set up completely - there was some background tasks running (freezing actually).
Try to run Eclipse with another JRE version. I have this problem with 8u60, but everything is fine (as fine as it can be with Eclipse) when I use 8u45.
Off topic - I strongly recommend everyone to stop using Eclipse and go to Intellij IDEA. Your life will become much more happy.
UPD I faced that problem again with the new workspace, so maybe this isn't about JRE version. Try to wait a few minutes, reopen workspace again, this worked out for me.
I've been away from Windows and Visual Studio for a few years. Now I have VS2012, and I notice that it fails to recognize that a file has changed on disk (i.e. by a different editor). In fact, even if I hit the refresh button on the Solution Explorer window, it still doesn't reload the file. I can close the window and reopen it -- still no luck. I thought "gosh, I hope I don't have to close and reopen the solution each time!", but it turns out even THAT doesn't do the trick.
Its as if VS is caching old copies of files and cannot imagine that someone might use something other than VS to modify them.
These are just local files, no network issues involved. I must be missing an understanding of some major new "feature", yes?
--- Edit: -----
Ok, here's some progress. I've been using the VsVim extension to have a vim-compatible keymap. On a hunch, I disabled it, restarted VS, and found the problem solved. Then, I re-enabled it, and the problem is still solved. So the mystery remains, but not the problem.
I don't have VS2012 (I went up to 2005), but from what I remember, this is configurable from the IDE. In VS2005 go to the menu, choose Tools, then Options, then Documents, then you'll see the options to detect when files are changed externally, and to auto-load files changed externally. I think in VS2012 it'll be similar.
I just upgraded to windows 8 from windows 7. Visual studio 2010 broke down completely. Oh well. I removed vs2012 and installed visual studio 2012, where the pain starts. I have been reinstalling vs 2012 a couple of times. However, the symptom remains the same.
When I try to create a new project (FILE -> New -> Project or ctrl + N).
It pops up with an error message dialogbox saying
"Failed to create a ImageSource from the text '..\Images\Medium.png'.
" I am like ##*%&^#*###(. So can anyone please tell me what is going on with my Visual Studio2012?
By the way, I can open and run the existing vs2010 projects with no problems.
I definitely neither want to do a fresh install on windows 8 nor rolling back to my windows 7.
Cheers,
To resolve that problem, I've change the permission of "modify" for "everybody" on the files
c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config
and
c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.30319\config\machine.config
Don't know if it's the best way to do it, but at least it works.
Do you have any codec packs installed on your system? I had a WIC codec pack for viewing RAW files in Explorer, and it resulted in the same issue you are describing. Uninstalling the codecs fixed Visual Studio for me.
I was having various issues, including the above.
To resolve the problem on Windows 8 for VS 2012, setting it to run as administrator fixed the problem for me.
Launch icon properties->Advanced Properties->Run as administrator
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Sean
The trace of this issue leads to Windows Imaging Component (one solution proposed was to remove FastPictureViewer, which codec affects WIC, but it was not my case). I used procmon to log all file and registry calls and found that VS2012 stumbles at the following key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.png - REG_SZ Content Type
I was suprized to see that Content Type for .png was set application (for .jpg it was application as well). After correcting it to image/png, not only VS2012 started successfully, but VS2010 as well, that was showing "Provide value on System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension threw an exception" on Win8 and caused me to try VS2012.
I had the same problem with Visual Studio 13.
uninstalling/reinstalling VS13 and all shared packages did not solved the problem.
Finally I tried to run it as administrator, as explained above and it worked.
Just happened to me. As Eric Aubry said check the machine.config file. In my case it wasn't permission error but the fact that the file was destroyed internally. By renaming the machine.config.default everything was fixed.
For me, this happened when I installed mysql on my machine, and it added an extra connection string to my machine config. However, since I was using a separate file for configSource, it resulted my machine config to become corrupted.
Moving the new config key to my config source from the 32bit machine config solved the issue.
As I mentioned in that question ,
I tried almost every solution I found.
I would like to share, what I have tried and did not work and what did work and solved the problem.
Here are the "solutions" which did not work for me but claimed that they worked for some people.
1) Removing FastPictureViewer Codec Pack (which was already not installed)
2) Having a modify permission to everyone for
c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\config\machine.config
and
c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.30319\config\machine.config
3) Using Procmon to see broken registries
4) Uninstalling/reinstalling VS13 and all shared packages
5) Renaming the machine.config.default to machine.config
6) Running Visual Studio as an administrator
And this what it solved it:
Simply installed all the updates for windows 8.1 (not only the important ones, also optional updates as well) and restart. It sounds crazy after spending hours and hours but that solved my problem.
Good luck!
I have been experiencing a problem with tortoise .
when i checked out the code the tortoise icons usually green or red on the folders are not coming.Any solution???
Thanks in advance.
1 - Check If Your TortoiseSVN Settings are Correct
Right-Click in an SVN Folder >> TortoiseSVN >> Settings
Select Icon Overlays:
1. Status Cache to Default
2. Drive Types: (SELECT) Network Drive, Fixed Drive
2 - Find out if there are too many Icon Sets installed in Windows
Window allows up to 11 IconSets, if other programs like DropBox are installed they will hijack those spots
Since we are working in the registry, be careful not to edit things, unless you are sure!
Run regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/EXPLORER/ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers
If there are more than 11 Folders, then you have too many IconSets
:: In my case, it was because of DropBox - the folder names were ("DropboxExt1","DropboxExt2") and my Tortoise was named (1TortoiseNormal,2TortoiseModified)--The problem is that Windows reads this and enables them based on alpha numeric order ('"' comes before '1' in the alphanumeric stack)
SOLUTION : If you had the same problem as me, you can simply rename the Dropbox registry listings. I renamed my Dropbox listings from('"DropboxExt1"') to ('X"DropboxExt1"'), just adding an 'X' to the beginning of the registry. >>Restart your machine to see the registry listing take effect.
Try also to repair the installation, if you upgraded from 1.6.8 or 1.6.9. Just re-launch the TortoisSVN installer and choose "Repair". There are known problems with overlay icons and TortoiseSVN upgrades (see this blog post).
If you have checked out your code onto a network, or removable drive, you need to set some preferences to see the icons.
Please refer the following link
http://tortoisesvn.net/node/97. I have also experienced simillar problem and the icon usually starts appearing after two or three reboots.
Also refer the following links
http://gavtaylor.co.uk/blog/missing-tortoise-svn-shell-icon-overlays
TortoiseSVN icons not showing up under Windows 7
You can go to TortoiseSVN>Settings>Icon Overlays>Status Cache.
If default is selected then change from default to shell. If shell is selected then change it from shell to default. it should fix it.
Maybe it depends on your platform? You need to install 64-bit TortoiseSVN if you want the TortoiseSVN Overlay icons in Windows Explorer, because Windows Explorer is 64-bit on Windows 64-bit.
see http://tortoisesvn.net/faq.html#nomenus
Make sure you have installed the x64 version of TortoiseSVN if you're
using XP or Vista 64-bit. Since the explorer on those OS versions is a
64-bit application, it can not load the 32-bit version of TortoiseSVN.
You can still keep the 32-bit version of TortoiseSVN installed on
those OS versions though: it will show up in the 32-bit applications
file-open/save dialogs of those applications.
In the recent versions of the TortoiseSVN, old _svn folders are deprecated. it's better to rename them to .svn.
attrib -h _svn
rename _svn .svn
attrib +h .svn
