I used a tool a few months ago that scanned a specified website and created a visual hierarchy of the website's page links. It also represented each page with its appropriate screenshot.
Does anyone know what tool this is? Or maybe something that performs the same basic features?
Scratch that, I found it! InfoRapid's Knowledge
It produces visual sitemaps like this one of Google:
You can use :

My freind and I want to setup a collaborative project where we both work on a HTML file (and do PHP) at the same time (bit like Google Docs share feature). I want to be able to work with him to teach him certain things in PHP and HTML while I also code at the same time. Any suggestions? I have a VPS I thought we could use for it so nothings really going to get in our way. Maybe something like GIT or something?
Sounds like what you need is a real-time collaborative text editor. Here's an extensive list from wikipedia.
I use Google Docs personally but Microsoft has added this type of functionality into Office and there are a slew of desktop and online tools on that link. I had looked into Etherpad before but i don't remember enough to suggest one or the other. All of the links are on the wikipedia article so I won't repeat here.
Hi
I'm looking for a tool (free/paid) like a program that help me in reviewing my website style and interface such as explain the content of the home page (footer, header ..... ) taking snapshots and write comment on them ... I know this can be done using (print screen) and the MS paint but I need a more professional tool to use .
thank you in advance
I'm not sure if I understand well, but conceptshare may be the tool you looking for.
There's a firefox extension called Screengrab that can capture an entire page. You could add annotations to that quite easily in a DTP tool.
I'm not sure about the type of review you're looking for.
If you want to have people using the website and giving you their feedback in terms of navigation, layout, design and content, you can use a www.usertesting.com services.
They'll enroll users to test out the website and them give you a URl to review a video/audio recording of each user test. It's a great way to validate your website.
Hope this is what you were looking for...
Does anyone know of a complete, downloadable/copyable example of a WiX installer that allows the user to select an existing website when installing a web application?
I'm trying to get this working and, after seeing that it seems to be a significant piece of work, I'd like to get an example running first so that I have a working project to base my own work on.
I found this (code is pasted as images) and this (can't get it running).
Just to confirm... Is it really as much work as the sites above suggest to allow a user to select the site to install to? Am I missing a trick?
I found this blog post that does the custom action in C# and has a complete downloadable sample. Pretty easy to follow.
Yes, that would be quite a bit of work to do it in WiX. I don't typically give a user this much choice. You might just want to do it as an after install configuration step if it's important to you.
I want to write a mobile app which takes a picture and searches google images for similar pictures and then displays the results.
However, with google image search I can only search for text strings, and with the search API it seems there's no possibility to search for similar pictures; this feature seems to be available only through the web interface.
Any idea how I can solve this problem?
thanks,
Christoph
There is a way you can do this now, but its not officially supported, and there are probably some restrictions on the number of queries you can perform. Update
http://images.google.com/searchbyimage?hl=en&biw=1060&bih=766&gbv=2&site=search&image_url={{URL To your image}}&sa=X&ei=H6RaTtb5JcTeiALlmPi2CQ&ved=0CDsQ9Q8
There is also a google image search API, which is being officially deprecated, but it will work for now.
http://code.google.com/apis/imagesearch/
The Google Vision API.
https://cloud.google.com/vision/
This is very simple and easy and powerful.
I had done something like that recently for a mobile app, this is the code for it, it uses google search by image feature, and returns the "best guess" or the whole page
you could use that and modify it to do what you want, but once you get the best guess of the image you could search for any image with that title, etc
https://github.com/hbattat/search-by-image
I don't think it's possible. If you click the link to find similar images from the images result page you get a link with the original query included:
google.com/images?q=ORIGINAL_QUERY&imgtype=i_similar&sa=...
If you remove that GET param manually, the search does not work, it only shows the images search form.
I dont think it is possible to find similar images with google if you do not know what's on it.
I was looking for an answer to this some time ago, and found tineye. You have to pay for it, though. Currently (Jan 2012) USD300 for 5K searches, USD1.5K for 30K searches...
SerpAPI enables to search through Google Images and returns a clean JSON.
URL example:
https://serpapi.com/search.json?q=Apple&tbm=isch&ijn=0
Documentation:
https://serpapi.com/images-results
This service is integrated with most of the programming languages: python, php, java, golang, nodejs...
Google limit the number of search per day. but this service provides unlimited searches...
What is a (free) technology which requires the least amount of code for creating a website with the following requirements:
Sign-up/login
Form for adding your personal info. which gets databased
Each person can view and edit their own info
Admin can view and edit any
The form needs to be easily customizable and extensible (by the website's owner, not during run-time)
Is there a beginner tutorial for such a thing?
(For me, this question is about a friend who wants me to do this, but I want him to do it himself so I don't have to get roped into maintenance. I also want to keep it more general for the sake of Stack Overflow and future readers.)
Edit: I thought I remembered some ASP.NET tutorials that were mostly drag/drop or things where it was all but made for you from the database schema (which can be made with SSMS's GUI) but I can't seem to find them now.
Responding to posts below requesting specifics: this site will be for potential clients to sign-up and enter their company's info and fill out a form about their advertising needs.
I thought about putting this on SU instead, but since there was likely going to be some coding involved (I assumed no-code was an unreachable goal) SO seemed more appropriate.
Your friend can consider a framework like drupal. It has a bit of a learning code but, you can create a website with everything you ask for without code. You may want to modify it to change the look but there are themes for that.
Also, some hosts like godaddy.com have this installed and you do not have to worry about the complex installation procedures. Just start modifying the content of the site, select a built in template and go...
PhpBB? I think you need to specify what the website is going to be used for before you can get better/more specific answers.
... have a look at Drupal or Joomla, expect a learning curve nevertheless.
Is this friend a programmer as well? If so, I'd suggest building such a site using a PHP framework. Deploying an existing forum/wiki is also an option of course, but will probably have much more features than you describe. But if s/he's not a programmer, I don't see how s/he will be able to develop a site like that in a reasonable amount of time.
Why not using a CMS like wordpress, drupal and co. ?
