I am working in SharePoint online and office 365. This is causing auto-save to save and change the modified date whenever a document is opened by someone with Edit privileges even if nothing is changed. I would like to set SharePoint to open documents in preview mode by default, then if the user wants to edit they can click to edit. Ideally, I would want to control this at the folder level but the site level would probably work.
You can try below option so that users will be forced to check out a document from a document library before they can make any edits. To enable automatic check out, go to Library Settings > Versioning Settings and switch Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited? to Yes. Click OK
check out a document in SharePoint
Next time anyone tries to edit any document in the library – they will be forced to check out a document.
If you log into the admin centre and select sharepoint in the left hand pane. Then select "Classic Sharepoint Admin Centre"
Select settings in the left hand pane.
Then next to preview features, select Enable preview features
Any issues just let me know

I tried searching for this question but couldn't really find a similar problem.
I have an excel file in which I created a custom ribbon tab and made copies of this file.
Image of the tab
In some of those copies, the tab has gone missing. I was earlier using Excel 2016 and recently migrated to Microsoft 365 and downloaded the latest version of Office. I am not sure if this is causing the problem since some files do still have the custom ribbon.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.
Regards
Do you get any UI errors when the tab is missed?
By default, if an add-in attempts to manipulate the Microsoft Office user interface (UI) and fails, no error message is displayed. However, you can configure Microsoft Office applications to display messages for errors that relate to the UI. You can use these messages to help determine why a custom ribbon does not appear, or why a ribbon appears but no controls appear.
To show VSTO Add-in user interface errors you need:
Start the application.
Click the File tab.
Click Options.
In the categories pane, click Advanced.
In the details pane, select Show VSTO Add-in user interface errors, and then click OK.
If you deal with documents with embedded customizations, make sure the protected mode is off when the document is opened. See What is Protected View? for more information.
Hi, I have a document library in sharepoint 2010 foundation.when i have uploaded a file into a document library from browser, it is showing a message"uploaded successfully" but it is not showing in document library all items.but when am open the site in IE and in library tab am clicking in file explorer button, in that file explorer the doc file is there.but in site -> doc library all items the file is not displaying. Am the administrator the site.
If your library has versioning with minor versions enabled, uploaded files will be drafts. It may be the sort of confusing case that even as administrator, you do not have the rights to see drafts.
In the Library Settings, open the Versioning settings menu. Try setting the Draft Item Security option to all with read or edit permissions. Ensure that you own the respective rights (personally or as a member of an appropriate group).
Changing this option solved the problem for me. However, I experienced this setting as being kind of weird: Setting the option back to its former state (in which I did not see the documents) did not make the documents disappear again.
I have configured a search results webpart to show documents based on the search keywords.
As soon as I hover on any of the search result item, it automatically triggers download and asks weather to save the document or open it directly.
This issue is coming on IE.
I have come to find the root cause of the problem but not the solution(Will update when I get to the solution).
As it is an intranet portal, IE has its default security settings to medium-low(It is medium for internet sites).
Under medium-low security settings Allow Active-X filtering is disabled. Enabling it solved the issue.
PS: You can get to the settings by clicking on TOOLS->INTERNET OPTIONS->SECURITY->LOCAL INTRANET.
A document in workflow task list is being downloaded when I click on it. it what I expected.
But, when I change the downloaded document. It sync back and changes the document on sharepoint online list.
How can I stop that sync on sharepoint online?
It might be sync to SharePoint work space is enabled. To disable follow the below instructions.
Select the document library. Click Library Settings. Click Advanced Settings under the General Settings category. Under Offline Client Availability category, select No to prevent users from download the documents.
I would like to know if it is possible to get audit logs on only one document library or list. I wouldn't like to do it at site collection or server farm level.
Also, is it possible in the audit logs to get information for the case of editing, what the original information was before editing and the new information?
Thanks in advance,
Matrich
In List Settings (or Library Settings) choose Information Management Policy settings.
Choose the "Define a policy..." radio button and choose OK.
Check the "Enable auditing" check box and that will show the auditable events that you can enable. Choose the ones that you want to track and click OK.
As for keeping track of what changed...I believe you will be better served by versioning enabled.
