Recover corrupted file in notepad++ - text

I had a text file to save all my important credentials, links and notes. Today when i was working on it, all of a sudden notepad++ crashed. when i reopened np++ the file was empty with zero bytes. I am so stuck now as it has all my credentials.
Is there a way to recover this?
Many thanks

Well you need to recover the file from your latest backup, but I'm guessing that because your asking this question, you don't have one?
If that's the case, then your pretty limited in what you can do. If you have saving of previous versions turned on in Windows you may be able to load an older version by right clicking on the file, go to properties and look at previous versions.
However, more than likely you are going to have to accept that it is gone, learn your lesson and start doing regular backups.

Garageband Save & Save As & Export Buttons Do Not Function

I recently started making music using GarageBand's MIDI software. I've made it up to a certain point, where losing all my progress would be disastrous.
Here's the issue I have:
When I go to File > Save/Save As or just cmd+S or cmd+shift+S, or Share > Export Song to Disk, instead of functioning and saving the file (I checked in Finder; last time I exited the app without saving due to this issue, the untitled garageband file disappeared) properly onto the app, it would either do nothing or give me the rainbow wheel of death for 10-20 seconds and then proceed to not function.
I've searched online for answers to this, and there were several (2) users I found that had the same problem. Their post either had no answer or the answer was unintuitive (such as always using a different, more complicated method to save, like messing around with the garageband files themselves everytime to save).
I'm looking for an answer to this issue that would result in slightly more convenient, one-time edits to the app / any software beneath that would fix this issue, if there are any. However, if the community has any alternate way to save the file right now, I would greatly appreciate it.
======
Also:
Since I'd assume most of the solutions would involve closing the app and then making edits, then reinstalling it, please tell me if I could just copy the notes (not the tracks) onto a text document and paste it into the new file after. I would prefer to save my music.
Try this . . .
First QUIT Garageband (yes you will lose unsaved work).
Find the Garageband folder where all the .BAND files are saved. Usually it is in Users -> Username -> Music -> Garageband.
Move older .band files into another folder (EG: "Garageband OLD")
Then start a new project (or open a project still in the Garageband folder).
Save and Save-As should now work.
It seems there is some sort of file limit for the Garageband folder. In my case the file limit is either 170 .band files or about 125GB.
I am currently using Garageband 10.3.5 on High Sierra.

How to restore folders and files with sublime 3 session file? OSX

How I can restore files and folders if I have sublime session file.
inside session file has my missing folders and files. But I dont know how to restore with that file.
Unless you've been making regular backups (you do, don't you?), you're out of luck. Depending on exactly what you did to delete the directory (I'm assuming through the side bar somehow), If you immediately halt your computer and run a forensic recovery tool on it you might be able to recover some of the lost data if it hasn't been written over, but the sooner you act the better. Good luck!
Go to your recycle bin, you might be lucky to find them there. Also use the Find button on the Sublime Text Editor itself. Goodluck.

Is There a way to recover a severely corrupted EXCEL FILE?

I'm currently working on my data using Ms.Excel.
But suddenly the file that I'm working in was broken. when I tried to open it again I get error where it contain "ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ" (See Picture).
Screenshoot Corrupted Excel File
The data was not really big, it's only arround 130KB. Besides, Autorecovery Mode was Turned On every 10 minutes. But I don't know How To use it.
I tried to solve the problem many times using below method:
First, I tried to check the "Ignore .... " in Excel Option.
Second, I tried Open and Repair the file, but still can't open it.
Third, I tried to use a third party, Using 2 Software (Stellar Phoenix Excel Repair And Recovery Tools For Excel). but Both not Working.
So I wonder if anyone can help me to get my data back? is there any way to recover the file? or is there a way to get the data within the file?
Thank you for all the suggestion you gave me, From the last comment I tried to get and extract the data using Programmer editor and using VBA, but both not give a good result, basically when you tried to extract the data when the file is corrupted it only get a unique character.
So here is my solution, since i'm using windows, I tried to Reinstall my Ms.Office and recover my Excel file on mac, and boom the magic worked.
Once again, thanks for your help.

Excel file retrieve original file extension or bypass fileformat-extension mismatch

We have a file that gets imported by a macro to extend Excel's macros functionality. This file has an extension .dll. The person who originally made this purposely changed the extension to dll to make it a bit less easy for users to just open it. All was well, but now the latest excel 2016 update gives an error "file format and extension mismatch".
which is correct. Now, in my opinion, I have 2 options.
change the extension to what it originally was (which I don't know).
bypass the extension/file format mismatch (which I don't know how to do and might pose a security risk).
I tried the following extensions: xla, xlam, xlsx, xlsb, xlm, xls, xll. but still get the same message.
Does anyone have a clue on how I can find out what the original file extension was?
I am not sure but the file might have been created in excel 2000 or 2007.
I found out that the issue is not with extension or file format but the problem was caused by AV/bit Defender which saw the file as a zip file started scanning inside and removed a single file inside thus causing excel to no longer recognise it as a valid file.
I noticed some weird behaviour as soon as I restored quite some files from backup, AV defender started using 95% cpu. after that I went into the logs and noticed defender thinks it is a trojan.
Thanks all for your input!

Recovering data from a sandbox

I was working on a computer which had Avast software running on it. I tried to open an executable (CoolEdit) which Avast opened in sandbox mode. I recorded a lot of stuff with CoolEdit and closed it down. The sandbox operates in a mode that says : Attention: Any data remaining when the session is closed will not be saved, or something to that effect. I saved all my data and was even able to see it before I closed CoolEdit down. Now I find it is not there. My questions:
1. What is going on?
2. Is the data lost or is it hiding in some folder?
3. Is there a way to recover that data?
Once you have closed the session down (by closing the application that is being run in the sandbox), it is unlikely that the data can be recovered. However, when the application is running in the sandbox, you will see all files as being saved in the locations that you have saved them (only through the dialog boxes of the application though. In reality, the files are not being stored there at all). Avast creates a directory called ## awsnx or something on those lines. All the data that has been saved in the session will be saved in a sub-folder within that directory. Please note that this data in the sub-folder will exist only as long as the session lasts. Once the session is over, all that data will be lost.
Word of advice to anyone using Avast. Disable this feature. You will lose anything that it deems suspicious, without giving you any way to recover it.
Say for instance, your Email. It for some reason thinks today "Ahha suspicious!" and sandboxes it while it scans it.. Oh hey nothing there.. I'll close it out of sandbox and run it normally.... Minues the 20-30 Emails you received as it was screwing around with your Email application.
Gone. No recovery.
As it is, for this I am uninstalling avast. I'd rather put up with mcaffee.
