sublime 3 inactive selection tag - sublimetext3

I am in middle of modifying Monaki theme, I want to change color of inactive select. when I double click something sublime automatically highlight other occurrence of the word in the document.
I am aware of caret but caret is just the border, what i want to achieve is to change the background of caret.
I searched a lot but couldn't find any documentation to list these tags and valid input for them.
I also tried inactiveSelection but had no luck with it.
so I have two questions.
first, how can I achieve this and change the color of the auto select?
second, is there any documentation out there that I can read about all the valid key/strings.
for example, in code bellow
<key>bracketContentsForeground</key>
<string>#16F24D</string>
<key>bracketContentsOptions</key>
<string>foreground underline</string>
how can I know <key>bracketBackground</key> is a valid code or what about <key>bracket</key> ? or <string>foreground underline</string> is there any other value that i can put inside the <string>? I see many ppl modifying the themes, but i can't find the source that they are learning from. I don't mind if I need to read inside the code to see what is the available tag, but I don't know to read which file.

selection key and inactiveSelection key
e.g., for monokai.tmTheme
selection string try #343400
inactiveSelection try #341700

Sublime text multiple cursors?

Sublime Text is so damn advanced and this seems like such a stupid question, but...
I started writing a for loop in PHP (using SFTP), loved that it gave me a choice to auto-generate the loop. However, it enters this weird multi-cursor mode, which
1)I am not really sure how to use/exit without using the mouse;
2) it seems useless, seeing as all 3 type the same thing, even though I need to change, for example, the $i > x or $i = x.
Although Sublime does indeed support the idea of multiple cursors (which is an incredible time saver and useful as all get out, as we're about to see), what you're actually asking about here is a snippet which in this case happens to also include multiple cursors.
The general idea is that for code that you're likely to type many times (e.g. a for loop), you can create a snippet that will generate the bulk of the text for you in one shot, and then allow you to easily customize it as needed. In this case, the snippet in question is part of the default functionality of Sublime and is provided by the shipped PHP package.
To answer point #2 in your question first, this is far from useless. As seen here, I enter the text for and then press Tab to expand the snippet out. The first thing to notice here is that the status line says Field 1 of 4 to tell me that I'm in a snippet and that it contains four fields.
The first field is the name of the control variable for the loop, and all of them are selected so that as I change the name, all of them change at the same time because when there are multiple cursors, the text you type appears at all of them at the same time.
Once I'm done changing the name of the variable, I press Tab again to go to the next field, which allows me to easily change the point at which the loop starts. Another press of Tab takes me to the third field, where I can specify where the loop ends.
One last press of Tab exits the snippet and selects the text in the loop, so I can start writing my code (caveat: I am not a PHP developer).
At this point you can see Sublime offering another snippet for echo, which would expand out to an echo statement complete with quotes, then allow me to edit the text in the echo and skip to the end.
Circling back around to the first point in your question, you can use Esc at any point to jump out of a snippet and go back to regular editing. You can also use Tab or Shift+Tab to move through the fields in the snippet, and pressing Tab at the last field in the snippet exits it as well.
In this particular case, the first field in the snippet sets up multiple cursors, and so exiting the snippet while this field is active leaves multiple cursors in effect. You can jump back to a single cursor by pressing Esc one more time (this is true regardless of how you ended up with multiple cursors).

How to highlight portions of a PDF file programmatically (eg. using command line)

I am interested in highlighting portions of a PDF programmatically, hopefully through a command line tool of sorts. My particular PDF file is not OCRed so the text is not searchable, but the particular places that I would like to highlight occur on every page in the same position. I was wondering if there is a tool to do this where I can input the rectangle positions in pixels into the command line tool and it would highlight the relevant portions for me.
Previous Findings
I have looked over the internet and found a few sites noting how to do this by searching for the text. Unfortunately that is not possible for me as my PDF does not have OCR.
I have searched stackexchange for similar questions and found
How to Highlight Text in PDF with commandline (windows)? and https://stackoverflow.com/questions/32713633/how-to-highlight-text-in-pdf-using-acrobat-reader-from-command-line but both were unanswered.
Potential Ideas
The first link had a possible lead with a given link to
Add comments to PDF files automagically with regular expressions
which uses ghostscript to include annotations. Is it possible to use ghostscript to highlight the pages in a similar fashion by coordinates.
The second link mentioned using command line options for the adobe acrobat/reader exe file, but searching the relevant manual for the command line switches does not show any highlighting options. It may be possible that Adobe does not support the highlight option through command line anymore, which would be unfortunate.
My last idea would be using AutoHotkey to create a macro that does an actual highlight for me using a GUI program, but that would be the last resort.
What do you all think? Any ideas on what to do, or things to check out? I am willing to program out a solution and can work out the solution on Windows or Linux if necessary. Thanks in advance.
I would have thought a Highlight annotation was what you wanted.Highlight annotations are a type of text markup annotation and as such take a set of QuadPoints which describe the bounding box(es) to apply the annotation type to.
Since you say you know the co-ordinates this would seem appropriate for your use. Of course, you will have to create the Annotation on every page, and you will have to learn how to program this with a pdfmark, but I believe it should work.
Note that the co-ordinates are in user space (generally 72 points to the inch) NOT pixels, because PDF is not an image format there is no concept of pixels, except for included images.
There are quite a few officially unsupported command line parameters to acrobat or the acrobat reader (acrord32.exe in Windows).
See: https://www.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
This includes a parameter to highlight with four integers at left, right, top, bottom that are in some unspecified units but with 0,0 at the top left of the page.
EXCEPT... I have been unable to get this to work.
I can pass in parameters to search and zoom but highlight never shows anything.
For instance:
start acrord32 /n /s /a "search=MS25441&zoom=300&page=1&highlight=0,55,0,65" floorplan1_ABM_cameras.pdf
Opens the files, searches for the string, zooms to 300% but nothing shows for a highlight no matter what coordinates I specify.

dialog/whiptail radiolist consistence

So basically I am trying to rewrite a bash script which uses dialog --radiolist for choosing locale, keyboard, time. At the moment the tag is a number that corresponds to a local (I created a hashtable for it). But because I have, and want to keep it that way for now, around 100 locales it gets messy at the end.
What I wanna achieve is to make it more compact without having to add or add an artificial, non visible item that might easily translate to its tag. (as a tag I would put the locale name)
What I have tried:
1. Noobish thing but I though that there might be some way to include empty like NULL in ASCII or 0, blank space etc, but dialog would always make it visible.
2. Exclude the item at all and finish on on/off but instead on/off takes place of item (not surprisingly if options are as follow --radiolist text height width list-height [ tag item status ])
3. Instead of letting the dialog on exit write to the output the name of the chosen locale I created an output statement myself.
I had red a lot about dialog and whiptail(http://linux.die.net/man/1/dialog, http://linuxcommand.org/lc3_adv_dialog.php) but always end up with having to add tag and an item. Would appreciate any suggestions and maybe some info if there is easily plug-gable dialog/whiptail compatible libs.
Thank You in advance
Perhaps you overlooked the --no-tags option (see manpage):
--no-tags
Some widgets (checklist, inputmenu, radiolist, menu) display a
list with two columns (a "tag" and "description"). The tag is
useful for scripting, but may not help the user. The --no-tags
option (from Xdialog) may be used to suppress the column of tags
from the display. Unlike the --no-items option, this does not
affect the data which is read from the script.
The question mentions whiptail and consistency, which could refer to consistency across dialog and whiptail. There is none, since
whiptail provides fewer options than dialog (inevitably, there will be differences, since there is no one-one mapping possible)
consistency as such between the two is done in dialog occasionally to help with compatibility (the reverse is not true).

Azure Search result highlight snippets

I am using the Hit Highlighting feature in Azure Search and noticed a discrepancy in the way it behaves from the documentation. In the documentation it says that when you use hit highlighting it will return a snippet of the field with the highlight, but it always returns the entire field (with proper highlighting).
Is there a way to have Azure Search instead return just a snippet (say of about 200 characters) that includes the highlight?
Currently, the answer is no, you cannot. The field breaks according to (English) sentence rules, ie. it breaks on ".", "!", "?".
Also see this question for an example on breaking and some more info relating to the delimiters.
Depending on the nature of the field you might be able to add one of the above delimiters to 'emulate' what you want to accomplish (as suggested by Nate Ko).
I want to suggest something else on top of what Nate spoke to. When you look at the document response, also take a look at the Highlights part of the results (as opposed to the Document). For example, you might be currently getting the field results by retrieving something like this:
Results[i].Document.DESCRIPTION
If there is a highlight found for that field, the snipped will be found here:
Results[i].Highlights.DESCRIPTION
What I like to do is to first check if there is a valid Highlight and if so display it. If not, I show the actual field content.
Liam
We recently introduced a change that improves the highlighter performance on large fields and NLP experience. One side effect of the change was that the new highlighter generates snippets based on sentences, breaking the text field on '.' (period).
One way to workaround the issue is to put '.'s in the field. We are working to enforce the snippet size and let you know when it is available.

setting line to read-only

Ive been looking though the QsciScintilla API, and I want to know how to set a line in a text editor to read -only. I know it provides a setReadOnly function. But this sets the whole text editor to read-only.
Any suggestions on how to set a line to read-only?
Im using PQT4 Python 3x
You can't really do this. There is a low-level feature in the underlying Scintilla control that can prevent the caret moving into an area of text - but it cannot prevent deletion of a broader area of text that contains a "read-only" part. But even if this was sufficient for your purposes, this feature can only be applied to ranges of styled text, not specific lines.
If you just want to associate some read-only text with a specific line, you could use an annotation.
