I want my WordPress based homepage to automatically start at abc.com/#about if the user enters abc.com.
I have added the following to my .htaccess file:
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=about
RewriteRule ^$ /#about [L,R,NE]
The URL is changed, but the browser (chrome) give the error: “This webpage has a redirect loop”.
I get the same behavior if I use
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=/#about
or
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=#about
It could be because the URL contains a #, but I’m not sure.
Thanks in advance.
One solution is to use cookies. You can set a cookie after redirecting to URI with # and then delete it. Try:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} (^|\s)test=1($|\s)
RewriteRule $ - [L,CO=test:0:.your_site.com:-1]
RewriteRule $ /#about [L,R,NE,CO=test:1:.your_site.com]
Problem is that for the URL http://domain.com/#about browser doesn't send URI path after hash # to server and server will still see URL as http://domain.com/ which will make it redirect again and eventually browser shows looping error to you.
You can try this rule to stop the looping:
RewriteRule ^$ /index.html#about [L,NE,R]
OR else if index.php is your default file then:
RewriteRule ^$ /index.php#about [L,NE,R]
Try This:
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=about
RewriteRule $ /%23about [L,R,NE]
The # part is replaced with URL encoded form %23. and the part which has to be rewritten should be $ , not ^$

I have...
| .htaccess : (v1)
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^in?$ login.php
So, /in --is-really--> /login.php
This much works great. We all can learn how to do this from: .htaccess redirect with alias url
But, I want it to also work in reverse...
If someone should enter /login.php into the address bar, I want it to change to /in.
So also, /login.php --rewrites-to--> /in
From this Answer to a different Question, I want to be ready for anything, using REQUEST_URI. So, my .htaccess file starts with this...
| .htaccess : (v2)
RewriteEngine on
# Remove index.php, if a user adds it to the address
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+/)?index\.php
RewriteRule (^|/)index\.php(/|$) /%1 [R=301,L]
# "in" --> login.php
RewriteRule ^in?$ login.php
That also works great.
But now, I want to add this rule (my Question here) for /in <--> /login.php both ways, just how / <--> /index.php already works with .htaccess (v2). So, I adopted the settings and added a second rule...
| .htaccess : (v3) —not working!
RewriteEngine on
# Remove index.php, if a user adds it to the address
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+/)?index\.php
RewriteRule (^|/)index\.php(/|$) /%1 [R=301,L]
# "in" --> login.php, and also redirect back to it
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+/)?login\.php
RewriteRule (^|/)login\.php(/|$) /%1in [R=302,L]
RewriteRule ^in?$ login.php
...but then /in and /login.php both cause an infinite redirect loop.
What's the right way to do this, still using REQUEST_URI, and still having both rewrite rules (for index.php and for login.php)?

Reason of redirect loop is a missing RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$ before first redirect rule that removes index.php. Remember that RewriteCond is applicable to immediate next RewriteRule only.
Suggested .htaccess:
RewriteEngine on
# Remove index.php, if a user adds it to the address
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+/)?index\.php$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [R=301,L]
# "in" --> login.php, and also redirect back to it
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+/)?login\.php$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1in [R=302,L]
RewriteRule ^in?$ login.php [L,NC]
It won't cause redirect loop because after first rewrite to /login.php, variable REDIRECT_STATUS will become 200 and then the RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$ will stop redirect looping.
Thanks to the help from the user with the correct answer, I found that...
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} ^$
...doesn't go in .htaccess only once, but every time on the line before...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ...
Been looking all over for an answer but no response found could solve my problem.
I'm using the following .htaccess file to redirect users from a site to its https version :
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
# This checks to make sure the connection is not already HTTPS
# RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/api-vop/
RewriteRule ^/?(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,L]
# This rule will redirect users from their original location, to the same location but using HTTPS.
# i.e. http://www.example.com/foo/ to https://www.example.com/foo/
# The leading slash is made optional so that this will work either in httpd.conf
# or .htaccess context
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>
I have first a rule to redirect to HTTPS then a rewrite rule for classic url rewriting to replace urls like myfile.php to /my-file
Thing is I need to let one url which is http://my-server.com/api-vop go through without being redirected to https, as seen by this line :
# RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/api-vop/
Thing is I cannot get it to work, at best I'm trhown back to the index.php page.
Any solution anyone ?
Thanks in advance !
Keep your first rule as:
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
# This checks to make sure the connection is not already HTTPS
# RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} !\s/+api-vop/
RewriteRule ^/?(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,L,NE]
THE_REQUEST variable represents original request received by Apache from your browser and it doesn't get overwritten after execution of some rewrite rules. Example value of this variable is GET /index.php?id=123 HTTP/1.1
We have a server, and have several folders under the /var/www/ folder.
We have pointed our domain name to the IP of the server, and by default we expect to load one folder as the website (since its not possible to point a folder with DNS).
I have written .htaccess in such a way that when you enter the IP or the domain name, the request redirects to the website folder.
However, whenever we enter the IP or the domain name, the name of the folder is getting added to the URL.
Here is the present .htaccess:
Options +FollowSymlinks -Multiviews
#DirectoryIndex folder/
RewriteEngine on
ReWriteBase /
RewriteRule ^$ /folder [L]
RewriteRule ^$ folder/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,}\s/+folder/([^\s]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1 [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule (?!^folder/)^(.*)$ /folder/$1 [L,NC]
where the folder is the folder's website
so,
www.domain.com
becomes
www.domain.com/folder/
Is there a way to rewrite the URL to remove the folder name?
Thanks in advance :)
EDIT : Added .htaccess code
Have your rule like this in DocumentRoot/.htacess:
DirectorySlash On
Options +FollowSymlinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine on
ReWriteBase /
# redirect /folder/abc123 to /abc123
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+folder/(\S*) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [R=301,L,NE]
# skip rewrites for real files/directories
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteRule !^(index\.)?$ - [L]
# route everything internally to /folder
RewriteRule ^((?!folder/).*)$ folder/$1 [L,NC]
It sounds like you made an external redirect instead of an internal rewrite. An external redirect is denoted by the [R] flag (with optional parameter) and causes Apache to send a 301 or 302 header back to the client with a different url that client should request. This causes the client to show the new url in the address bar.
What you want is an internal rewrite. When you request the url, the url is internally rewritten to the place where the resource is actually located. You do this by omitting the [R] flag, and not using a domain name in the rewritten part. It typically looks something like this:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/folder
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /folder/$1 [L]
We're setting up a TYPO3 installation, and if the user calls example.com/ we'd like the server to redirect to /typo/index.php?id=106.
This should happen without a change in the address bar. Every other file access on the server (for example example.com/test.png) should be redirected to example.com/typo/test.png).
This is the .htaccess file in the root directory. As I understand, it will redirect everything which doesn't have /typo in the URL to the subfolder and attach the parameters:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/typo/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ typo/$1 [L]
Now, this already seems to work, when I call example.com/index.php?id=106 I'm not getting a 404. Unfortunately TYPO3 seems to have some trouble (or the .htaccess configuration isn't correct), because we get a message saying "No input file specified".
What's also missing is the initial redirect when no path is specified. It should then go to /typo/index.php?id=106.
You may try this in one .htaccess file in root directory:
Options +FollowSymlinks -MultiViews
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# URL with no path
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/?$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !index\.php [NC]
RewriteRule .* /typo/index.php?id=106 [NC,L]
# URL with path
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/typo [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.+) /typo/$1 [NC,L]
Maps silently:
http://domain.com/ to
http://domain.com/typo/index.php?id=106
and
http://domain.com/anything
http://domain.com/typo/anything
For permanent redirection, replace [NC,L] with [R=301,NC,L]
I want to mask the URL http://example.com/index.php?path=controller/function to http://example.com/controller/function. function isn't required to be present.
How can I do this with an htaccess file?
The following isn't working.
RewriteRule ^/?assets/(.*)$ assets/$1 [L] # directory for CSS, images, and JavaScript
RewriteRule ^$ /index [redirect]
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z]+)/?([a-zA-Z/]*)$ index.php?path=$1/$2 [L]
Currently, if I enter http://example.com/controller/function in the browser, I receive a 404 error, but entering http://example.com/index.php?path=controller/function works.
Thanks!
You may try this:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !index\.php [NC]
RewriteRule ^([^/]+)(.*)?$ index.php?path=$1$2 [L]
It maps internally
http://example.com/var1/var2
To:
http://example.com/index.php?path=var1/var2
Keeps the incoming trailing slash behavior and var2 is optional.
