as stated in the questions title, we have an issue with VS2012. The problem is that sometimes suddenly some keyboard-input in VS isn't executed properly, if at all.
When the problem occurs, we are only able to type in characters and numbers, but neither are we able to delete them (backspace or DEL), nor to use the arrow key to jump up down a line or to the next/previous character. Overwriting a text which has been marked with the mouse is working.
I have found a very similar Question but the hints stated there doesn't work here. Those are:
Hitting Alt+Enter
Closing and Reopening Editor Windows
Closing the ToolboxWindow
Restarting VS
Pressing ScollLock
The Problem seems to be related to the Stylecop-AddIn. After uninstalling it, the issue doesn't come up anymore. Is there some known workaround? Thanks in advance!
Apparently StyleCop can be used with out Resharper, I didn't know. Very sorry. However, if you look at the documentation for StyleCop, if you right click on your project, click Source Analysis Settings, you will be presented with a dialog to turn on or off all of StyleCops rules.

I often see that some of the ReSharper functionality just doesn't work until you restart VS and reopen the project. But this situation I have now is consistent across restarts. So I am using a Go To Everything fuctionality often. It is enabled in ReSharper settings.
But since yesterday Go To Everything (Ctrl + N for me) can't find most of the files in the project (though it can find some).
Here is a screenshot of the problem:
I have that file open in editor just to prove that it's there. I show it found in an open solution in file tree. But ReSharper doesn't seem to be able to find it.
What to I do to troubleshoot. Thanks you in advance.
The best thing to do here is to raise an issue with JetBrains. Either log a bug with the issue tracker, or email resharper-support#jetbrains.com. Include details about what version of ReSharper you're using, what type of projects you're using, version of Visual Studio, etc.
However, from that screenshot, it looks like ReSharper isn't configured to analyse that file - there's no "green tick" in the scrollbar. Is ReSharper disabled? Is that file excluded from analysis? (Mind you, even when it's excluded, it should still show up in go to results. Something odd is happening here, support should be able to help better than StackOverflow)
I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue with visual studio (or a VS extension because I have a few installed) and what is causing this? The number goes away when I close visual studio and I have not been able to figure our what is causing this. The number is overlayed on my desktop and not just visual studio. It covers all other windows I have open as well telling me it's set to be always on top.
Anyone else come across this issue or what is causing it?
I figured it out!
This has been bothering me for years. I finally just sat down and solved the problem. Basically, VS has this little known feature where you can navigate through code lens with just your keyboard. If you press Alt for a couple of seconds, you will see numbers just like the ones that appear at the top of your screen above your current method. To fix it, just long press Alt again and the number should go away. If you have many VS instances open you might have to go through them one by one.
I don't have significant reputation to comment, but I am experiencing this both with VS2013 and VS2015 too. The only extension I have installed is Resharper.
My research shows that it is caused by the hover text / overlays from various components. The only way I have found to get rid of them is to close the Visual Studio IDE window responsible.
I did some find-and-replace actions in my C++ code with visual studio:
only single find-and-replace actions (did not use “replace all”)
only one file affected (did not change multiple files at the same time)
thus, a very simple case!
Then I wanted to undo these changes. So I pressed ctrl-Z one time. This had the desired effect. The latest change (which was still visible in the current screen) was undone.
But I also wanted to undo the remaining changes. These changes where currently not visible on the screen. So I expected the editor to scroll there when pressing ctrl-Z.
But unfortunately the editor did not scroll to the position of the undo when I pressed ctrl-z.
The undo worked, however. I checked by scrolling to the position manually.
Then I tried it with redo. Same result: Redo worked, but the editor did not scroll to the position of the redo.
Finally I tried if this also happens when I undo-redo other types of changes (not made by the “find and replace” functionality).
Result: Undo-Redo worked correctly and also scrolled correctly!
Thus: It seems only changes by the “find and replace” functionality are affected by this problem.
Did you also have this problem and found a solution?

I am having the same thing happen in Visual Studio Ultimate 2012 (Version 11.0.60610.01 Update 3).
It might sound like it's not that important, but it is really hurting the usability of this otherwise great IDE!
PS I've been using VS since the 90s, I still haven't found anything better. I wish MS would put macros back into VS, even if it's VBA (or Python)
Today I tried to made "Code Cleanup" of single file in ReSharper 6.0 (VS 2010). The Code Cleanup dialog did not show up so I tried again.
I then discovered, that the feature is grayed out and when I press hotkey for Code Cleanup, the notification area shows that the "command is not available at the moment".
Even the Code Cleanup settings are hidden. The panel where settings should be shown says that the settings are solution-specific and thus a solution needs to be opened (although it is, however).
All other solution-specific settings and features work, except for Code Cleanup.
I want to avoid re-installing ReSharper or resetting its settings, because otherwise I would need to set it up again (long and annoying work of setting all the options as before re-install).
I am afraid that backing up settings and restoring it again restores the problem as well.
Any suggestions?

Ensure that the file that you're trying to cleanup is included in your solution.
Try to reopen solution (close and then open again).
Upgrade to 6.1.1, maybe its fixed there.

Both ReSharper 7 and 8 seems to work OK.
I know this is an old answer, but I found a little more insight on this. According to Jerrie Pelser in this blog post from last year, this may have to do with the file being part of a NuGet package. In my case, this was definitely it!
In case of link rot, basically the post mentions that ReSharper will avoid refactoring/code cleaning for files it detects were added as part of NuGet packages. This is similar to how it will not allow code cleanup for generated code.
I've become accustomed to using ReSharper, so uninstalling it is not an option.
However 1 little thing that I would like to try fix is the immediate window, I used to get automatic intellisense prompts when for example typing myObject.
That seems to no longer be working (and only in immediate window while debugging) since I installed ReSharper. Any ideas on how to get it back?
Unfortunately, if you're using the ReSharper intellisense (instead of the Visual Studio one), it won't work. I remember reading somewhere that this is a known issue due to a limitation in the Visual Studio extensibility API. This also affects the watch dialog.
The only thing you could do is manually invoke intellisense each time using Ctrl-Space. Perhaps this issue will be solved in Visual Studio 2010.
The problem is ReSharper and there is no current any solution.
And the shortcut for intellisense-pop is Ctrl + Space, (not Ctrl + Alt + Space)
