Microsoft web installer error "data at the root level" - web

I am trying to install hdinsight on my windows 7 64 bit OS using hdinsight-preview.exe. It is a web platform installer from Microsoft. Once I gave the custom feed as MSSingleNodeInstaller.msi. I think i am supposed to give an xml file. After this it is throwing an error "Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1". I tried uninstal and re-install, but no success. Everytime i start it, it throws the same error. Which xml file is it trying to read.

Probably you can reset the exe and give a different XML
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer and launch: WebPlatformInstaller.exe /reset

Your custom feed *XML) is broken as the error is related with XML processing by the webPI application. First check your XML for its integrity and the pass it to installer.
What you can do is launch the offline webpi installer which will download all the xml files and then you can understand the correct XML configuration before passing it.
.\webpicmd /offline /products:HDINSIGHT-PREVIEW /Path:c:\a_writable_folder
You can learn more on running offline installer here.

Cognos Analytics server installation file does not show license agreement

I am installing Cognos Analytics server by right clicking on the setup file and running as administrator. But I can't continue because it does not show me the license agreement and the option to accept it.
I have Windows 10 and have administrative rights on the user account. Also, the installation file is on C:/Temp/. What am I missing here?
I can only guess as to why the EULA isn't showing up. Perhaps the download is corrupted or you have some graphics issue on the system on which you're installing it. Can you run the installer on another computer simply to see if the EULA prompt shows up correctly?
To circumvent the issue entirely, assuming the download is not corrupted, you could use a response file installation. This would allow you to install the product "headless," which would avoid the need to click through the graphical installer.
The silent installation instructions direct you to provide a response file when running the installation, a template for which can be found here.

Error : -7132: An error occurred streaming ISSetup.dll support file Script Files\Setup.inx

I have installscript in Basic MSI Installshield Project which works perfectly when using InstallShield 2015 IDE. But, when using Installshield cmdline on a separate machine, getting this error -
"Error : -7132: An error occurred streaming ISSetup.dll support file
..\Script Files\Setup.inx" .
All the necessary files are in place for building Installshield project. There are other projects which are using same installscript and running absolutely fine using Installshield cmdline on the same machine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Well, the separate machine is a different environment.
Different environment, different file locations.
That kind of compilation error is usually related with link files problems. Like a linked rul not available.
Check the relative links to every .rul in your project, specially if you have custom .rul files.

Android Studio - No SDK Found - Setup wizard fails - Firewall Proxy

So getting right to the point, I am behind a corporate firewall. I had to manually download the zip file for Android Studio which I extracted to program files (windows 10) on my machine. When I launch studio I'm dialogue'd studio needs to retrieve sdk's which I try to do but it fails on these 3 zips.
build-tools_r29.0.1-windows.zip
platform-29_r01.zip
sdk-tools-windows-4333796.zip
Mostly I see
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out Warning: An error
occurred while preparing SDK package Android SDK Build-Tools 29.0.1:
Read timed out.
I'm assuming my firewall proxy is preventing this type of setup install since the links to these zips point outside our network but I am able to download the zips individually through a browser session one by one and save them here
c:\Users\myPin\AppData\Android\Sdk
I extracted each zip file and then reran Android Studio but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. It still goes out trying to download the same packages which I already extracted to the SDK folder. Shouldnt studio see the zips I've extracted in the SDK folder location? How can I get this working?
So we have work around I think others might find useful. If your having problems with the Gui SDK manager, then definitely use the cmd based sdk manager. This did not time out for us.
So for example where in the Gui I would get something like
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
When tryin got get platform-29_r01.zip
But if I try to perform the same operation using C:\Users\PIN\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\Tools\bin\sdkmanager.bat using whatever cmd tool you like (I like cmder).
.\sdkmanager.bat --proxy=http --proxy_host=access.lb.ssa.gov --proxy_port=80 "platforms;android-28" --verbose
The above cmd will dl's and configure the sdk correctly.
You may have to do this for any of the sdk's you require. I think in our Firewall proxy scenario there's a user-agent setting or something that is not set for the Gui which is causing the timeouts but not with the cmd tools so this is a legitimate work around I think.
First things first. You have to check your Computer time, it must be accurate. If still error appeared, try this.
On you PC search Powershell and type code below. See image below for reference.
Path reference
Powershell Image
Failed version code
Click Retry
.\sdkmanager.bat --proxy=http --proxy_host=access.lb.ssa.gov --proxy_port=80 "platforms;android-29" --verbose
Run powershell > type cd> path of files
Check what SDK number version is getting error
From the android studio ERROR, click Retry while powershell is running.
If the said SDK version number is fixed, go to the next version number, by pressing control+C to powershell to stop the command.
Then type the same code with different number..
Note: If you do not have bin folder. You can create a folder named bin and create sdkmanager.bat file, inside sdkmanager.bat file, type this code >> sdkmanager.bat and save.

Installshield wizard Path contains invalid character in vs 2012 deployment

Am trying to Deploy my visual studio 2012 vc++ application through Install Shield wizard.
The error am getting is :
Error 1324. The path .. contains an invalid character
I followed this tutorial and got succeed with a sample application .
http://www.flexerasoftware.com/webdocuments/productdemos/IS2010_VSLE_Demo/IS2010_VSLE_Demo-lite.html
But when i try to deploy my application, the setup file which i created is giving me this error.
Please help me
I've never seen this one before in the wild but it's described at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292582
Basically it sounds like the computer has invalid data in the registry for one of the built in directories that Windows Installer resolves. It's an environmental issue rather then installer logic issue.
I'd have to see the installer log and computer registry to confirm or deny that though.
I had the same problem recently (with Installshield 2015). The problem was, that under Application Data/Files and Folders there was a definition for a folder called .. - so the setup would try to create a folder .. on the target system, which of course doesn't work.
Deleting that folder definition and moving its contained files to the parent folder definition fixed the problem for me.

Install errors in InstallShield 2008 Premier Edition

I have a setup which has been created using InstallScript MSI project type. This problem is encountered by our client and he wants a quick solution.
Let's assume I have initiated the installation from a path like
C:\Setup_V_1.0.0931.1
Inside this folder I have Setup.exe through which I will install the product. After installation or after some days pass I will change the path to:
C:\New\Setup_V_1.0.0931.1
and this time I want to modify the setup. Actually we are supporting 3 features: Server, Client and Service.
This time I want only Client and not Server. So I will click on the Setup.exe or click on Uninstallation Icon in the Startup Menu which will lead to Maintenance Mode there you have an option to Modify, Repair or Remove. I choose Modify and select the feature, but as the installation progresses, this error message will pop up:
Setup could not find a file on the specified path or Disk. Please check
that the proper disk is inserted or specify a new path. Unable to
locate file c:\New\Setup_V_1.0.0931.1\setup.msi
Then, another popup will be shown saying:
Error: 1706. No Valid Source could be found for product. The Windows
Installer cannot continue.
The next error message is:
Error: 1603. Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer
Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
But if I change the path to its original location, it works fine.
How can I solve this?
I event checked in this registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\{Product-Key}
This key contains a lot of information inside InstallProperties. There is a key called InstallSource and its value is C:\Setup_V_1.0.3909.1\. Even after changing this value installshiled is still showing errors.
I found the same registry information for Uninstallation Information:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{Product-Key}
In your properties change ReinstallMode (or maybe Reinstall I forget which) from omus to vomus
the v means cache your install, so it will put your .msi file in c:\windows\installer so it can be used later.
When installing a MSI, Windows Installer saves the original MSI path in registry (the InstallSource entry you mentioned). When running the MSI in maintenance mode, Windows Installer will use this path to find the installation data (CAB files).
When you move the MSI, the path stored in registry is no longer valid, so Windows Installer cannot find the installation data.
A possible solution is to use "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" in Control Panel to modify the installation. This way the cached MSI is used.
