In my program I want the user to be able to choose between some options so I was using wxChoice component. Unfortunately after user interaction (clicking a button) I have to show custom text (not from my predefined list). Everything works fine if I use wxCombobox control but the drawback of this approach is that each time user selects an element from a list, selected text is highlited. It is annoying. I want the component to be read-only like. How to achieve this ?

This control is used to set camera view in 3D object viewer application. Possible options are like: top, left, right, etc. It is also possible that the user moves 3D object using mouse. In that case I want my combobox to display "custom view" string. However "custom view" should not be a part of combobox list because selecting this option does nothing.
wxWidgets default implementation alwasy marks selected text. Which might be misleading for the user because he might think that he is expected to input any text.

IMHO, the custom text should be added to the wxComboBox control, the program could just ignore it when user selects that option.
Also, the wxComboBox's wxCB_READONLY style could be used to avoid the highlighting thing.

How to create a NotesRichtext item that is computed for display?

I know this is a common problem, and I tried a few solutions already, but the problem I have right now with my current code is that even though the attachments show in the computed for display field, I get the error "Note Item not Found" when I try to open them.
The form is built with two fields, in a programmable table that displays the editable one or the computed for display one.
The trick I found with Google's help was to delete the computed for display item in the queryopen event, so Notes regenerates the cfd item when opening the document. Visually, this works, as I see the text and attachments, but the attachments can't be opened.
Here is the code that removes the item in the QueryOpen of the form:

Has anyone successfully achieved that functionality? Is there another way of doing this? I already tried with subforms, and because of the way the application is built, I need to be able to switch from editable to read only on the flick of a radio button, so subforms are out of the question as they can't be displayed dynamically.
Why don't you simple put the richtext item in a controlled access section and make that section editable / not editable with a computed for display formula. Select "always expand" and hide the section title, so that nobody can collapse it, et voila.

Dynamically add / remove editable area to custom control embedded in XPage

Okay... this is a little difficult to explain but I will try my best.
In Custom Control while adding properties in Property Definition we can set "Allow multiple instances" which allows us to add multiple instances of that property when the control is embedded in XPage.
Similarly, I need to know whether it is possible to add (and remove) Editable Areas in a custom control when it is embedded in XPage? What I plan is that I would have a repeat control inside my custom control and I would be able to put the contents in each editable area in every loop of that repeat.
Is this the right way to go about or am I looking at this problem incorrectly? Any solution not involving editable areas is also welcome :)

A use case context I am looking for is a simple carousel where contents of each screen in carousel can have different contents. These contents would be put into each (dynamically added) editable area. The contents can be very different from each other with one screen containing only text, other only image and another both image and text.
Look at the table walker example in the 26 original exercises. It does mostly what you are looking for (conceptually). You won't need multiple editable areas. Whatever is inside the repeat gets repeated.
What you want to do is to give the control a custom property "boolean editMode" so you can render that one line to be edited - if that's the UI pattern you want to follow.
You also could consider a dojo table with Ajax which allows for a familiar spreadsheet UI

Can I create a custom DialogPreference based on a pre-existing custom Dialog?

In my Android project I've already created a custom dialog: A class named SelectColorDialog, extending Dialog, that allows the user to view a large matrix of color cells in order to select a particular color. The dialog returns the selected color value (as Integer) to the dialog initiator – typically an Activity – via a callback function.
I've a similar custom dialog, SelectTypefaceDialog, to allow easy font selection. A list of available typefaces are shown, as ListView rows, each identified by name and with an associated short sample text rendered in that typeface. The available typefaces include usual droid fonts, such as NORMAL, MONOSPACE, etc. as well as any externally sourced TTF font files that the user cares to load into a particular subdirectory on the SDCard.
These custom dialogs were not initially designed to be used directly in conjunction with SharedPreferences, preferences definition XML files or with any PreferenceActivity. Instead of, each dialog can be popped up from any activity, via the user pressing a button or via a menu item. The activity classes that create these dialogs also have internal callback classes, selection event listeners, to detect when the user selects a color or font.
These two dialogs do not have OK and Cancel buttons. Instead, the user just clicks on an item - a view of some kind - in the dialog to select the corresponding color or typeface value (implicit OK) or else presses the device’s back button to dismiss the dialog with no action taken (implicit Cancel).
I would now like to go further and incorporate these two custom dialogs into the shared preferences framework via a preferences.XML and an associated PreferenceActivity.
I would prefer to base two DialogPreference subclasses directly on these existing dialogs if possible, but I cannot see how to do so. I suspect that I cannot, and that I'll need to start all over again, and copy or adapt all the java code that is presently in the custom dialog classes – for color or font display and selection – directly into the custom DialogPreference classes instead, perhaps by overriding onCreateDialogView() and/or other methods?
This question may be a bit old, but I hope to help those, looking at the same problem in future: just extend Preference instead of DialogPreference. DialogPreference is designed badly and expected "official" way to use custom Dialog - overriding protected showDialog method does not work, because this single method contains half of class logic.

Best practice in dealing with xpages extensions dialog box?

I have an extension pages dialog box that I placed in a custom control. The dialog box is used to search for cost centers and return information such as market, cost center number, cost center name etc.
A "Select" button is pressed and the dialog box appears. The user searches for and selects their cost center. The OK button is pressed and it closes the dialog box and updates the various fields on the xPage.
A couple of questions.
Currently the "Select" button on the CC needs to know and refer to the name of the dialog box control within the CC. Seems to me that this is not the best practice. My end user programmer needs to know the ID of that dialog box control within the CC. Is there any way for my "Select" button could "show" the CC and the CC would actually show the dialog box control?
My CC makes use of custom properties to store the various document fields from the selected cost center. The OK button then uses these properties to set the various fields on the xPage. This again does not seem to be a best practice. If I wanted to use that CC in another application then I might need to edit the code in the OK button. Is there a better way to deal with this? Like I can set properties for a CC when I drop it on my xPage, is there a way I can tell it the code that I want to execute when the OK button is pressed?
One thing I thought was to have properties for the fields that need to be updated by the OK button but that does not seem to be so flexible.
For the issue of needing to know the id not sure if theres a typo but I don't understand why its bad that a select button inside a cc needs to no the id of the dialog to open it? did you mean the select is outside the cc? either way have you tried anything like creating a property on the custom control so that from outside it you can set something maybe

and then when something outside it happens change showDialog and refresh the cc, then inside the cc you can have a before / after page load to determine what happens when showDialog is true / false.
For your second issue it sounds to me like this should be using a domino document structure. Rather than the dialog pulling out each piece and the ok button updating, what I would do is have a domino doc data source on the page. when something is selected through the dialog I would update the document this source is pointing to and have all the fields bound to what ever fields they need to be. This way after something is selected the fields will just update to what ever the document contains, and it will be much more re useable so long as the domino docs have the same field names

Watir : How do we capture the subitems displayed by doing mouseover on a particular item

I am trying to work with mouseover on a particular Item in my application by using the following command

On doing mouseover on a item, two subitems are displayed.
Is there any way to capture the sub items which are part of the Item by doing mouseover with which we can report that our test is pass or fail.
Please suggest.

If we take example,On the StackOver flow page, If i do mouseover on my name, i get a window where i see activity, privileges, Logout and other stuff. This is really what i was looking for. Is there a way to capture the items displayed on the window on doing mouseover.
I also tried to capture the subitems with the following :

On doing this "text" value is displayed as 'nil'.
My general tactic for such things is a combination of using IRB and the IE Developer tool, or Firebug.
using IRB, type out (or cut and paste) the watir statement to fire the onmouseover command to the proper element on the page.
Then have the developer tool rescan the DOM (there's a little refresh icon you can click) The use the tool to point to an element to point to one of the items in the stuff exposed by the onmouseover. Using the info from that, you can then figure out how to address those elements to get the text from the proper div, etc.
If I do that here to the info that opens up when I float the mouse over my name I can find out that it is a table of class "profile-recent-summary" Furthermore I can then look at the way the table is made up and see for example that the 'today' reputation value is in the second cell on that row.. The row also has the text 'reputation' in it.. so

Should flash the cell I want (index might be 1 if using firewatir or webdriver) I can then replace the .flash with something else like .text if I want to get the text from that cell (which is actually inside a link that sits in the cell)..
without seeing your code, I would 'inspect' the element that you are trying to verify and when_present (text) assert that its true
